Exclusive: Tori Spelling Returns to 'Smallville'! Is '90210' Next?

Nov 9, 2008, 11:46 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: 90210 Casting News!, Smallville

Torispelling_lColor me gobsmacked: Tori Spelling is appearing on a CW show, and it's not 90210. At least not yet anyway. (More on that in a sec.)

Sources confirm to me exclusively that Spelling has finalized a deal to return to Smallville as The Daily Planet's incredibly liquefying gossip columnist Linda Lake. The camptastic character, first introduced in a Jan. '07 episode, is unique among Smallville's long line of villains in one very significant way: She knows Clark's secret.

Now for the other piece of this story: My Peach Pit mole confirms that after numerous false starts, Spelling is once again engaged in "preliminary talks" to reprise her role as everyone's favorite ex-virgin, Donna Martin, on 90210: New Flavor.

As you'll recall, Aaron's little girl was all set to head back to her former zip code earlier in the season, but she backed out in an alleged dispute over moolah. Or was it because she just had a baby? Depends who you ask!

If the 90210 deal materializes, and that's still a big if, I'm told Spelling would likely show up in the spring. Her one-episode Smallville return, meanwhile, is set in stone for early '09.

What say you, Smallville fans? Excited to see Clark's liquid nightmare back? Are you, like me, hoping it's a precursor to a 90210 return later in the season? The comments section awaits your feedback!

i am sick of people saying the writers shouldnt get clark and lois together. a mean lois is hallarious and better than lana, but more to the point CLARK AND LOIS are together in the films. so it was obvious that they would end up together... so theres no point trying to stop it happening. however chloe isn't but jimmy is, will there marriage end in tragedy? more than likely...

Smalliville Fan 99 Thu, Jan 8, 2009 at 12:24 AM EST

Tori Spelling in Smallville?? I wouldnt mind seeing her in show as long as she is commited to her character.

On a side note, I like the way Smallville is panning out, and the return of Lana, althought not as unexpected as most people think, was certaintly a nice twist plot to an already exciting story.

As for Lois and Clark, well you expect them to end up together despite the odds, and so far the writers are doing a great job in making that chemistry come to life. As someone else said, its epic romance at its best.

On a personal note the show isnt quite the same since Lex Luthor left. Its nice to have remenants of his story left as breadcrumbs, but the man added that extra dimension to Smallville, and right now I think he is sorely missed.

Brian Sat, Jan 3, 2009 at 07:57 PM EST

don't care for her character, would rather see greg arkin (bugboy)or kevin arnolds dad back

JANET T. Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 02:39 PM EST

I LOVE SMALLVILLE I THINK ITS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS ON I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEW ONE COME ON. WELCOME TORI SPELLING YOU COULD'NT PICK A BETTER SHOW TO COME ON

cara Tue, Dec 9, 2008 at 12:12 AM EST

tori was definitely annoying, but it was obvious she wasn't dead.i figured she would come back.i wish lana wasn't back to wrap up her story-seemed final to me. as for the comment that lois and clark couldn't end up together, everyone knows clark kent is superman and that he ends up with lois lane. their's is an epic romance, they are each other's destiny. in the comics lana was clark's high school love(she actually marries pete),and most people knew from before their first kiss they wouldn't be together. L+C have always had amazing chemistry, and i agree that their relationship has gradually built over time and now they truly care for each other. as for if clark has flown yet, the producers have said from day one clark would not fly on the show because this is about the journey of becoming superman, not actually being superman. although, i think the last scene in the show should be clark flying away. how great would that be?

nappygoodness Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 12:23 AM EST

They promised Lana was gone and here she is popping up at Chloe's wedding. Oh and she has ninja skills but why not. Ninja, witch, every day victim. It's not like the writers are grasping at straws to make Lana interesting. Lana's time is spent. Clark has move to the big city to become a reporter and a hero. It's Lois and Clark time. Oh yeah and tori spelling isn't to sucky I guess.

Kirsten Wed, Dec 3, 2008 at 06:20 PM EST

I LOVE this season of Smallville. I can't stand Lana and the heat between Lois and Clark is palpable. Tori's appearance should be interesting.

bob dickson Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

i think there are too many characters.one extremly annoying things is the music. it's way too loud and not at allconducsive for listening. it could stand to be about 30% of the existing noise. it drowns out the speaking and hinders the hearing. please, please cut the music by 70%. thanks.

Steve Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 09:19 AM EST

"The camptastic character, first introduced in a Jan. '07 episode, is unique among Smallville's long line of villains in one very significant way: She knows Clark's secret."

Uhhh... NO? She is not unique in that regard as Lex also knows his secret.

lois Tue, Nov 18, 2008 at 10:33 PM EST

"Smallville has changed a lot in the past few episods, but I don't like the fact their tring to put Lois & Clark together she wasn't even in the frist season so I think its stupid."

wtf? what does her being in the first season have to do with anything? clark and lois do end up together..

jen snow Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 10:57 PM EST

Smallville is a passe and should have ended last season when Lana, Lex, Lionel and Martha were still here. The only thrill Smallville can generate now is that if Clark vomits in his mouth when the rat faced cougar Lois moves in for a tongue in the throat kiss. EEEEKKKKKKKK run clark like a speeding bullet..

Angle Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 06:10 PM EST

Smallville has changed a lot in the past few episods, but I don't like the fact their tring to put Lois & Clark together she wasn't even in the frist season so I think its stupid. Not to mention changeing Chloe's memeoriy what was the point of that really. The new writers messed up what the old writers had created.

tce Mon, Nov 17, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

would love to see tori; miss lex; missed a few episodes last season - Can clark fly yet or is he still just running around?

Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 10:22 PM EST

Smallville is absolutely amazing, and this season is one of my favorites yet.
I admit they are definitely approaching the "Lois & Clark" thing kind of strong, but I don't mind at all.
As for Tori Spelling's return, it should be interesting and I'm looking forward to it. And since Chloe's...change, I'd like to see a Lois vs. Linda maybe.

Beth Sun, Nov 16, 2008 at 10:08 PM EST

I also think Tori Spelling is an annoying actress, but I'm interested enough in finding out what will happen in the episode what with her knowing Clark's secret and what not, that I'm all for her return.

Mur Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

BOOO! Tori Spelling is one of the most annoying actresses in history! And on a side note any episode with Lois is a good one, how anyone doesn't like her is impossible to believe.

beautiful Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 04:08 AM EST

yeah Tori, More Tori, Kara, Chloe, less Lois. That will do it

Jeannie Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 02:46 AM EST

I really hope she comes to 90210...I'm waiting to see Kelly and Donna together, as their friendship was one of my favorites. It's just not 90210 without Donna, IMO.

Me Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 01:41 AM EST

Worried a bit, i like the more serious tone that this season has, and i worry about going back to the stupid villians, although i love tori. and for all the haters, this is the best season yet, i miss lex but still the best

Yeahwritekelli Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 12:32 AM EST

I don't care who guest stars on the show. It's not going to save its failing storyline. Smallville used to be the show to watch every week. Now, the majority of the original cast is gone. Victoria has more secrets than Clark. And where in the world is Lex?

anthony Fri, Nov 14, 2008 at 12:25 AM EST

whoa clark gotta go round 2 with donna
martin and this time is personal thum
thum thum

Sarah Thu, Nov 13, 2008 at 04:20 PM EST

Tori rocks !!

She is a survivor of extreme bad relationships and abusive people in her life, finally she has a soul mate, children and a renewed career.

Bravo!

Marian Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 01:13 PM EST

Sounds promising, I like Tori I'm definitely watching her episode.
As far season 8 has been amazing, I can`t stop watching it, and for me it`s all because of CLOIS, I`m simply loving Tom and Erica together,I can`t wait for their real first kiss. OMG!!!! it`s going to be EPIC

André Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

I am afraid of Lana lovers, they freak me out. Lois Lane rules! For 70 years.
Erica Durance is an amazing actress, besides she is wonderful, pretty, beautiful.

torrie Wed, Nov 12, 2008 at 10:16 AM EST

I rather watch Tori or anybody but that butt faced middle aged skank Lois with the inflated chest implants. Bring in Tori, get rid of that middle aged cow Lois

True Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

!the rating for WRATH,FIERCE,ACTION still topped any episodes this season!CLANA sell Clois not.the bloodline rating way up was because kara! s8 has the lowest rated first 9 episodes in the history of smallville!

Ana Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 08:18 AM EST

Great Linda should have a rematch with Chloe. Tiny Blond Vs. Hydro lady was a great girl fight and Chloe showed that she can hold her own and win! Ready to see that again.

IMatt Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 07:39 AM EST

I really liked her as Linda Lake in Hydro. Linda was evil in a really cheesy over the top way and her cat fight with Chloe rocked!

Carrie Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 02:33 AM EST

I enjoyed "Hydro", so I don't mind seeing her character again. It was pretty obvious that she wasn't really dead...I don't think Lois & Clark's relationship is contrived at all. Lois has been on the show since season 4 & they've had a lot of time to get to know each other, become real friends, and truly care for one another. We all know that Lois & Superman end up together, but it's not hard to see "Smallville's" Lois & Clark together. They have great chemistry and the characters have grown up quite a bit in the last few seasons. I like these two together and I'm enjoying season 8 much more than I thought I would. There have been a lot of changes, but for the better, I think. It was smart to make Justin Hartley a regular. Lex and Lana were getting stale, so I don't miss them very much. I like Davis, and I like that Tess is so cold and calculating & completely unapologetic about it. Even Jimmy has become more tolerable. Plus, Martian Manhunter is recurring. Love him.

Another Chlark fan to content with Tue, Nov 11, 2008 at 02:21 AM EST

I don't mind having her back. She knows about Clark and well Chloe will go to the ends of the earth to protect Clark's secret. So a Chloe vs Linda showdown could be fun!

sean Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:54 PM EST

Yeah! I've watched smallville since day one & this sea has been sooooo much better than the last. I liked Ms.Spelling's epp,of yesteryear. Ms. Spelling has great underestimated comic timing & was great as Linda Lake. I absolutely hate Lana & thought the producers overuse of her char. kinda killed the series in the last few years. Lois Lane is the best thing to happen to smallville. As an avid Superman fan, I'd say she is the best Lois ever!!!!! All creds go to Erica Durance who plays Lois. Anyways, glad to hear Ms. Spelling will be back.

Ash Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:02 PM EST

Thoughts on Tori re-prising her role as Linda Lake on Smallville... Meh, what ever, not going to make this season any better then the crapfest that's been going on.

Liz Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

I love that she's coming back I enjoyed her character especially in her scenes with Allison Mack. I really hope we get another fight scene and more snarky exchanges between Chloe and Linda Lake. I also hope that this isn't another cheap attempt from the writers to have another guest character mention how "close" Clark and Lois seem, RIDICULOUS!!! Stop trying to shove this contrived relationship down our throats.

Love the new info but who I'm really dying to know about is Chloe, what info can you give us on our favorite reporter/heroine?

Eddie Eddings Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 06:13 PM EST

They should drop "Linda" in the "Lake" with some cement Stiletto High Heels as a bonus!

Me Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

Oh "cecilia" I agree with ya! They'll use the guest character to pimp Clois...I can totally see that. Lame.

Nop Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

Aah she's back LOL I kinda liked that episode because Chloe was protecting Clark. Wanna bet they'll try to steal that storyline and give it to Lois cause she's now the AMAZING REPORTER???

I called it!!! To bad Lois will never be half of what Chloe IS, no matter how hard they try.

Kalie Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:26 PM EST

I don't mind seeing her character back on "Smallville". Her last episode was pretty fun. I always figured she might return, since it didn't seem that her character was really dead. I'm really enjoying the current season. It's been fun to watch Clark at the Daily Planet and I like how they're handling his relationship w/ Lois. I also love Chloe's storyline, and Oliver Queen is terrific. Tess is no Lex, but I can see why they chose the actress to take his place. She's good. Basically, this season has been a refreshing change w/ no Lana and Clark getting much closer to his destiny. I just wish they'd bring Mrs. Kent back at least once, and I miss Lionel.

Phil Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 04:08 PM EST

She looks like The Joker

SmallvilleFan Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

I'm not sure how people can think the show sucks without Lana and Lex. After years of Clark mooning over Lana like an angsty teenager (which, granted, he was) it's kind of refreshing that she's gone. I didn't mind Lana, but toward the end, she annoyed me. As for Lex? Yeah, he wasn't bad, but I got tired of his 'I'm so evil and will find you out' stuff. I realize the character eventually does, but it's not for awhile. I like the show now and the cast. I'm liking the fact that you can sort of see the budding romance that'll eventually happen between Clark and Lois. And I love the actress that plays Lois. The fact that she takes no crap from anyone is great.

Lor Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:54 PM EST

I was a HUGE fan of Smallville since the beginning, but now that Lex and Lana are gone - it really sucks. They are trying to make it better by bringing back characters from previous seasons and IT'S NOT WORKING. Spelling's episode was one of the WORST of the season. Smallville just keeps getting worse :(

rp Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

it would be great if Tori Spelling made her way back to the zipcode that made her famous! I know i'm in the minority, thinking that her character's return should be more important and valued than Doherty's. Doherty was on the show for the first 4 seasons ONLY. And yes Spelling's character was somewhat TAME in comparison to alot of the crazier storylines other female characters had to overcome. Donna was the least morally ambiguous character...that's not a bad thing

Tobi Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:51 PM EST

This is pretty awesome news. I've always love the Linda Lake-Chloe Sullivan confrontation. It showed the line between tabloid trash and real journalism. I hope for a rematch because journalistic Chloe is the best. And her dedication to Clark and protecting him, as shown in Hydro, was amazing.

Dennis Dziadowicz Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

Let's hope she wears a mask.

Michael Martinello Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:44 PM EST

Good Ol' Shovelface...

Chlark Fan Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:31 PM EST

The Chloe vs. Linda Lake fight was the best part of her appearance. It was one of the best fights on the show. It lasted more then 20 seconds. LOL. I'm not sure what else they can do with her character, but if they're bringing her back I hope it is for a Chloe/Linda Lake rematch!

JR Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:59 PM EST

outsideradventures.blogspot.com

Tori is great!!

Lia Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:41 PM EST

Shoot, I thought Lake bit it and that was a one ep horror. Why the heck would they bring her back, to do the blackmail thing? Can we get through one season without someone trying to blackmail Clarke? It was old after the 2nd season and it had happened that 8th time!

Elsa Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

Spelling sucked, I hate her character on Smallville and I already wished her first appearance was her last.

christia Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 11:48 AM EST

Not to excited about her being on the show. But this season is taking its turn. I am ready for Clark to tell Louis his secret. That will get the season going. As far as Cloe I think she helps make the show. Not having Lana around makes the show 10 times better. She was straight drama through and through

Nicolas Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 10:59 AM EST

well and if they bring back tori and they will do she will be good doing the show and shw can also do the new 90210 and also bring back martha kant back in the end of the series and have one more justice ep that include kara because she in the group ever she the supergirl and last inn the series finale bring back lex and the justice that includes martha and if you can hoch up lois and clark in the end

sizzlemaker Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 09:18 AM EST

tori's better than the new 90210. the show sucks, she's better off not on it. more 90210 thoughts at sizzling.wordpress.com.

André Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 09:15 AM EST

It will be nice to see Chloe fighting Linda Lake, but I want to know about Kara, will she ever come back? And Martha Kent?
Greetings from Brazil.

cecilia Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:34 AM EST

Are we going to get another Chloe/Linda smackdown? If so, count me in on the people who would love to see her back. But I fear she is only coming back to say how amazing Lois is for Clark and how wonderfully strong she is and how she can handle anything and what an amazing bond Lois and Clark have. I am even willing to bet that one of her lines will be to praise Lois or to comment on how close Clois are or whatever. Who wants to bet that she and Chloe will not even share a scene together?

Michelle Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 08:26 AM EST

Don't care about 90210, but I'm excited to have her back on Smallville. She was a great villain! I'd love to see her working with Tess, especially with her knowing Clark's secret!

Alex Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:55 AM EST

Loved her on Smallville!!! So yeah I'm pretty excited about that.
But honestly if she inks a 90210 deal I do think them getting Brian Austin Green is necessary!
What's Donna without David?

Olivia Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:52 AM EST

Wow, can we have another Chloe versus Linda smackdown? Those two snarking at each other in the Daily Planet was awesomely fun and I would love to see Chloe and Clark handle her this time around!! LOL!

Irradiata Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 07:30 AM EST

Maybe Linda could drown Lana or Jimmy this time around.

DeeDee Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 06:49 AM EST

Brilliant! I always wondered what happened to Linda Lake after 'Hydro', and I guessed she wasn't dead.

I hope they do right by the character; her knowing Clark's secret could make for an awesome episode. And as I recall, she wasn't too fond of Lana or her former DP colleague Chloe either, so there is lots of juicy beef to go around!

DB Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 05:23 AM EST

I never cared for her....until I saw her absolutely hilarious mockery of herself in "So NoTORIous", I had new respect for her. People, hater, go find the DVD, the complete series (only ten episodes I believe) is genius.

JS Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:51 AM EST

I never cared for donna martin on BH90210, but that "tori and dean" reality show is pretty entertaining. The episode where her husband keeps farting on her in bed is pure gold. She may actually be too big for 90210 at this point. seriously.

mike hunt Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 02:32 AM EST

great, she will fit right in with all the other horrible actors on the new 90210

Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:43 AM EST

Michelle, rude much? I suppose you look better than she does to make these comments?

Mike Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:36 AM EST

Michael calling Tori's Linda Lake "The camptastic character" is so true, that's why I think I loved her so much. Tori played Linda like a comic book character and it worked. Like Jesse said in an earlier post her first appearance was great and she was in a very good episode, if I recall the episode was "Hydro" which Tom Welling directed and that was the first episode Clark kissed Lois in. Tori's return sounds sweet to me.

Jesse Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 01:09 AM EST

Awesome,I am not a big Tori Spelling fan but I enjoyed her character the first time she was on Smallville. Tori played Linda Lake very well and actually made her into a memorable character that was very enjoyable. I hope Tori's return means that she will be apart of the group Tess has been trying to put together. I'm very surprised that I am so excited for her return.

Emma Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:45 AM EST

hate her, but her Smallville character is not bad. have to disagree with Corran though, Andrea was NOT better.

Joel Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:36 AM EST

Couldn't care less about her appearing in 90210, but having her back in Smallville sounds promising. Tom Welling should probably direct that episode though. He seemed to be the only one to actually get her to act with her appearance back in season 6, which he directed.

Corran Mon, Nov 10, 2008 at 12:16 AM EST

Of all the leading ladies, Donna was the least interesting (even Andrea was better), but hey anything is better than the return of Steve Sanders.

Michelle Sun, Nov 9, 2008 at 11:54 PM EST

Oh God, who let this over botoxed non acting b*tch back on tv?
