Breaking: The CW Revives 'Jericho,' Cancels Four Shows

Nov 20, 2008, 03:57 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Jericho_lAnd the award for the most misleading title of the week goes to ... the one that accompanies this story!

The CW is actually reviving repeats of Jericho as part of a revamped Sunday night lineup that also includes encores of Everybody Hates Chris, The Drew Carey Show and movies from MGM's contemporary library. The new schedule, which takes effect Nov. 30, shakes down as follows:

5 p.m.: Everybody Hates Chris
5:30 p.m.: The Game
6: p.m.: The Drew Carey Show
6:30 p.m.: The Drew Carey Show
7-8 p.m.: Jericho
8-10 p.m.: Movie

As you probably figured out, this means Valentine, Easy Money, and all those other Media Rights Capital shows have been officially axed. They'll have their final airings this Sunday.

I have become addicted to Jericho as a first time watcher this time around on the CW. I am sad to learn there aren't many episodes. Great job to the original fans for keeping it alive! Know that there are new fans backing it too!!!

Jamiane Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 12:11 AM EST

I love jericho its so awesome. wish there was a third season

Karen C. Sun, Jan 25, 2009 at 08:25 PM EST

This is so great! I wish I knew sooner vut I just got to see the one episode I missed when it was on CNS. I do hope they revive it. And Stuart I agree I hope they pick up Pushing Daises, it is such a sweet show and ABC has no taste so it would be better someplace else where it's cherished

ugh Wed, Dec 24, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

Jericho turned into a load of crap. Even in reruns the ratings are sliding to microscopic levels. Thats what happens when you take a show whose fan base is largely conservative and turn it into a Michael Moore Farenheit 9-11 nightmare. CBS sucks ass.

5Fires Sun, Dec 21, 2008 at 01:01 AM EST

Jericho is a must right now.
The Story line is great

The cast all the way to the extras and stand ins are excellent!

It's extremely well directed.

I Love the show - now let's get movin'
with Season 3 - I wanna see Texas kick some treasonous traitor NWO A**

God Bless the Republic of Texas - Yeah I'm from Texas -can y'all tell?

PS I miss Bonnie
Sprague in one of my most favorite -she's sexy and dorky - she walked through a puddle of water while talking with Skeet in episode 7 season 1. To me that was funny and fitting for the character.
Love ya Sprague!

marysinibaldi Mon, Dec 1, 2008 at 11:26 PM EST

i cannot believe they cancelled dirty sexy money the tv show. what a shame. i am very upset.

626 Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 03:27 PM EST

That was a dirty trick. Now that they're picking up the repeats I wonder if there is any hope at all that they may start the series up again

ugh Mon, Nov 24, 2008 at 11:30 AM EST

I doubt reruns of Jericho will beat even King of the Hill reruns on FOX. Jericho reruns on CBS typically were lucky to get 2 million viewers. CW is cash strapped and flirting with goign out of business altogether. The dont have the money to spend on making new episodes of anything but cheap sitcoms, teen oriented shows and other low budget shows.

Of course Jericho fans should just be glad to see reruns. Sunday 7-8pm is a throwaway time slot due to sports and 60 minutes sucking all the oxygen out of the room; which is why FOX chooses to air nothing but KOTH and Simpsons reruns.

And complaining about the alleged flaws in Nielsen is as pointless as complaining about the price of arugula in Kansas.

fedrich519 Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:39 PM EST

Not cool. Not cool at ALL!!! My heart started racing a little bit reading that title, click on it to read the exciting news and you think misleading is funny?! Don't make us send 40 tons of NUTS! to CBS. Jerk.

klaurel Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 07:21 PM EST

TIME TO SEND NUTS TO CW! :)

Mike Bevins Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 11:25 AM EST

Jericho season 3 is coming come one the new save jericho comercial will be aired NATIONALY the cw is going to be running the whole series and the jericho fans will watch and new people will find out about the serious keep fighting season 3 is coming we want it and wont let it go give us what we want

Jennifer Sat, Nov 22, 2008 at 04:02 AM EST

That wasn't nice. For a second here I was thinking there was really gonna be more Jericho. Thanks a bunch for destroying all my last hopes...

PamLa Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:02 PM EST

This is great news for Jericho fans.
Betcha CW sees a huge jump in their Sunday night ratings. I'm just one of the tens of thousands of Jericho fans still fighting for Season 3 and now more people will see why Jericho is worth fighting for!! :D

Stuart J Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 05:47 PM EST

Whe I heard the CW was going to air Jericho I was ready to scream GLORY HALLEUJAH at the top of my lungs, but then I read they were reruns and I was disappointed. Is there any hope for new Jericho episodes? Maybe the CW would be interested in Eli Stone and Pushing Daisies and good television.

N2N2 Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

Already heard this from another source that did not try to trick us!

Personally, I don't care if they are reruns, I shall watch again.

What I really want to know is - When will TV execs get it that the ratings system is whacked and needs to be burned down and rebuilt. They keep measuring the same 5000 or so people yet they expect their tastes to change? Do you have to be a genius to figure out that 25 incarnations of 1 successful show will get successful ratings? Hence CSI Everywhere - because it is the SAME PEOPLE WATCHING!!!

Gwen Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:35 PM EST

Great choice CW - Jericho fans will be there on Sunday nights.

jess Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

wow they didn't even give it a chance all they've been showing for the last 3weeks is repeats.

Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:15 PM EST

*gasp*
Darn you!
No Snapple for a week!

Matt Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

This was just mean.

elr Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 11:42 AM EST

Sorry to see Valentine and Easy Money canceled. That is five shows that I watched not on the air anymore. My anger has all been spent toward the knuckleheads at ABC so, that now I just feel empty. I must admit I kind of thought this would happen since the past weeks have been repeats.

Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

I hated this show. Can't it just stay gone?

Lorrie Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 10:20 AM EST

I've been watching "Jerico" on UHD and on the days it is run it's 3 or 4 times a day. I usually catch it twice !!

KayT Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 08:54 AM EST

This is great news for Jericho! More exposure and a plus for the CW! The CW and Jericho are the perfect match! I am banking on a ratings boost for the CW.

Cara Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 08:35 AM EST

What an awful, miserable tease. I couldn't click on your link fast enough. Shame on you!! Jericho, RIP.

Zachary Reisfeld Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 04:55 AM EST

DAMMIT! I actually got excited for a second...I love Jericho

Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 03:58 AM EST

Great, I suppose two things could happen. One there going to be a letter campaining about a certain vampire detective to be reaired with new episode and a new season. Or CW could take advantage of cancel programing and put it on sunday because CW really dosen't have anything to make people watch for there primetime sunday...maybe the CW should have added sunday afternoon sports to it line-up first.

jim Fri, Nov 21, 2008 at 12:34 AM EST

That wasn't very nice. Got real excited that Jericho was saved again, and then 'just repeats'........

Canceling Eli Stone is also not good!

Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:47 PM EST

it's too bad about Valentine. oh well, the cw should pick up Pushing Daisies!

sam Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 11:35 PM EST

I would love to see Reaper!!! I never missed an episode last year. It is pure funny comedy. I think a huge problem is the lack of advertising. There are horrible shows getting alot of marketing and staying on. They really need to drop the reality TV crap.

Cami Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:48 PM EST

The CW should pick up Pushing Daisies.

J.S. Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:27 PM EST

What does this mean for that new Bob Saget show?

Mike Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 10:14 PM EST

I love people with their wacky "save Jericho" campaigns. I absolutely love the show and wish it got its due but come on, HBO?? I know the show has some loyalists but I really doubt enough would pay for HBO just to see it. HBO prides itself on "edgy" original programming, not shows that didn't get watched on regular TV.

I think CW would have been the best option for new episodes, since it's a property of CBS. I just dont think they could have afforded it. I believe most of their money is spent on staples like Smallville, Supernatural. They can't afford another high-priced, high-concept type show. It's a shame too...definitely an original show.

PJ Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:50 PM EST

It sure would be nice to know from the CW when Reaper is coming back. They are shooting a second season with no apparent room in the schedule, why not air it on Sunday nights and possibly have the space for a full season instead of just 13 eps? When is Reaper coming back???

Norsu Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:35 PM EST

Great Move CW

Jericho is a nice fit Sunday nights at 7:00 on your network.

The show that refuses to die and look at all the fans tonight here!

Lisa Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:28 PM EST

BAD MICHAEL!! Not nice to give us hope like that about JERICHO!!!

Rick Lee Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:22 PM EST

Nielsen ratings are crap. They do not represent TV viewers in any kind of accurate sense.

When was the last time you met someone with one of those boxes on their TVs? There are 5,000 or so of these boxes in the country. How about people who just leave their TV on?

It's a totally inaccurate system which accounts for all the crap on TV.

Justathought Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:17 PM EST

You are right Mary, CBS got all those peanuts from Jericho fans.

Maybe if the reruns do well at CW, we can send peanuts to HBO and lobby for HBO to pick up Jericho.

I agreed with Jeremy, I would pay for HBO just to watch new Jericho episodes.

The prospect of thousands of loyal Jericho fan-new subscribers is something HBO should consider.

Susan Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:09 PM EST

This is good launching pad for Jericho! Jericho would make a great network series original and it would boost the CW! Good move!

Mary Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 09:00 PM EST

Justathought: It was CBS who cancelled Jericho. Not NBC!

But I have to agree that Dancing With the Stars is really screwing things over for all the networks, including ABC.

I cant believe that all of our letters to CW actually did something, even it is just repeats!

Ryan Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:55 PM EST

The Nobel Prize for common sense goes to…the network that picks up Jericho. The CW gets the Darwin award!

Justathought Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:42 PM EST

NBC canceled Jericho when it dropped to "only" 9 million viewers against Dancing with the Stars. Anyone would love to have those ratings these days.**Jericho had a loyal and growing audience. If NBC had guaranteed two more years when they brought it back, they would have had a continued winner with longterm, money making repeats.

**The last episode was left open and there is lots more story to tell. Maybe someday...

Rangerette Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

This is great news for Jericho. All the Rangers should be watching every episode as it airs. If we can push CW's ratings high enough they may decide to make new episodes so don't be disgusted that it is just re-runs this could very well be the thing that we have been waiting for all of these long months. So everyone please make sure that you watch!!!

Alex Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

Do you think if the ratings are high enough the show could be brought back?

BackstrokingFly Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:58 PM EST

Well, at least I won't have to wear out my DVDs. But really, this just means that thousands of new fans will be sadly disappointed when the 29 episodes are over and they must face the reality that there ain't no more. sniff.

jeremy Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:54 PM EST

Why is it that no one is smart enough to pick this show up and run with it. Can you imagine what they could do with it on HBO, I would get HBO just for it. It was one of the greatest shows every.

Todd Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:26 PM EST

you need to get on the ball and announce the ABC bloodletting that's going on. Pushing Daisies, Dirty, Sexy Money & Eli Stone have all been cancelled, as reported by E!

ann Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:22 PM EST

Dang it! Valentine was my overly ridiculous guilty pleasure show. Sure, the main actress sucked, but what else was I supposed to watch for mindless entertainment on Sunday night?!

Poo.

Nick Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:17 PM EST

This is kind of wishful thinking, but maybe if CW gets good enough ratings with these reruns they'll actually try to revive it with some new episodes? And anyone else hoping that the CW picks up Pushing Daisies, considering it's pretty much inevitable that it'll get canceled on ABC now?

Shannon Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 07:01 PM EST

I agree the title made me get all excited and than we find out its only going to be the rerun's!!!!! Lame!!!!!!

Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

and the daisies have died

HarryMcBack Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:49 PM EST

I don't see why the CW doesn't pick up something from syndication, like Legend of Seeker that is getting good syndication ratings.

Serena Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:44 PM EST

CW, get "My Own Worst Enemy" if NBC isn't continuing that. :D

Kenn Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:38 PM EST

Thanks for the misleading headline. I don't scan entertainment headlines to be tricked. How lame.

Nat Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:36 PM EST

That's just mean... :( Please don't do that again. People here really want Jericho back and some returns can't replace it...

Laura Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:34 PM EST

Come on CW. Should've thought of this earlier! Like, when it got canceled the second time? They would've had a field day with the ratings...

Lucas Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:31 PM EST

don't get too happy folks. repeats doesn't mean they have any thoughts about reviving the show or that the cast and crew will still be around to do it.

Sophie Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:31 PM EST

I was super excited when I saw that title! How annoying. They so should bring Jericho back.

C. Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

"Jericho" has more lives than Lazarus.

Bravo to The CW.

Modwild Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:15 PM EST

They would have had a wicked night of hits with Moonlight and Jericho. They passed on Moonlight - how dumb can they be???

Josh Emerson Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 06:04 PM EST

Damn you Ausiello!! You are just pure evil. Get our hopes up and then reveal it's only repeats. That sucks. Maybe if the repeats do better than the CW's crap they'll bring Jericho back for new eps?

sarah Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

that was very mean ausiello!!! everyone i know wants NEW jericho not reruns!

Josh Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 05:42 PM EST

Awesome! I've always wanted to watch Jericho, but I heard about it when it started it's second season so I didn't bother watching it. I'll definitely tune in, or DVR, Jericho. Great move on The CW's part. They should do the same with Moonlight. ;)

K6 Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 05:32 PM EST

Smart move by the CW it's Sunday night is going to be flooded with Jericho fans.

The fight for season three continues on the Universal HD board. Also watch for the fan made Save Jericho commercial to air Nationally this month on Universal HD.

Go Rangers!

John Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:55 PM EST

DAMN YOU AUSIELLO! I was so excited until I continued to read. I want new episodes of Jericho, I have Universal HD for my repeats!

rachel elisabeth Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:44 PM EST

Cool, maybe I'll check out Jericho. I meant to watch it when it was on but kept forgetting and I hate watching shows without seeing from the beginning.

academy Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:35 PM EST

mad shame getting my hopes up like that...i guess reruns are better than nothing...REVIVE IT FOR REAL

SerenityBlue Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

Okay, Michael. That was just cruel. Even if I did think a second after reading the headline that it was too good to be be true.

Freddie Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:31 PM EST

Ack! I call evil!
I couldn't figure out how in the world it could be (especially since I think "Eric" is now playing "Jim" on Ghost Whisperer) but I was still momentarily besides myself with gleeful giddiness.
And I don't even get the CW.

AusIsAusome Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:29 PM EST

Rumors are rampant that Pushing Daisies is officially... pushing daisies. Can you confirm or debunk?!

David4 Thu, Nov 20, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

Smart Guy.

How many of the guys on Gossip Girl are gay? All of them? Maybe I have to start watching. :]
