Scoop: USA Renews 'Burn Notice,' 'Psych'

Oct 9, 2008, 04:00 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: Burn Notice, Psych

Psychburnnotice_l God bless the USA Network!

Sources confirm that the NBC-owned cabler has renewed two of TV's most entertaining series, Burn Notice and Psych, for a third and fourth season respectively. Both shows received orders for 16 episodes.

BN and Psych are scheduled to kick off the second half of their current seasons in January (although Psych will air a special Christmas-themed hour on Nov. 28). The newly greenlit seasons would likely follow in summer '09.

Are you as, ahem, psyched by this turn of events as I am? If not, please resist the urge to corrupt the comments section with your negativity. But if you absolutely must be a Debbie Downer, do us all a favor and at least be clever about it.

I haven't watched USA since Silk Stalkings, but have really enjoyed both Psych and Burn Notice. Good job USA Networks!

I forgot to mention NCIS and Bones I like them alot too!

randy blanchard Sun, Apr 5, 2009 at 11:32 PM EST

psych, burn notice, monk, the mentalist, Legend of the Seeker, and leverage are my favorite tv shows. I can't believe Legend of the Seeker hasn't found a home showing week to week episodes. I hope psych is never dropped. I will watch all these faithfully for as long as they keep being renewed and I hope that is for years and years to come!

Burn Notice is HOT HOT HOT Mon, Jan 12, 2009 at 07:03 PM EST

Jeffrey Donovan is TOTALLY amazing in the role of Michael Weston!! Jeffrey plays this part perfectly - super sexy, strong, smart, self-assured, sensitive, and that smile.....he's soooo hot, he sizzles

Bring it on!! Burn Notice rocks and I can't wait until it starts again.

Charles Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 09:57 PM EST

Catherine, you do realize he's an actor and that is his job in Hitch. He's just a great actor and his show is worth watching.

elena Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 10:40 AM EST

Hey! You know what would go great with Psych and Burn Notice?
The 4400. But it's totally cancelled. I am STILL not over that fact!

Tiff Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

PSYCH!! PSYCH PSYCH! SUPER PSYCH!!! ... so psyched.

surfergirl577 Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 02:53 PM EST

I'm glad there's so much love for Psych. I love that show! I wish they had more episodes. James Roday and Dule Hill are great.

Tarpo Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 10:35 AM EST

I'm a HUGE fan of Burn Notice to the point of saving 3 or 4 eps on my DVR to watch them all together. Its great that I get the winter series and then a whole new season to look forward to

Catherine Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

I'm not much of a "Burn Notice" watcher (seeing him first as the jerk in "Hitch" really turned me off to him as an actor), but "Psych" has to be the funniest show on TV. I'm psyched! (bad pun intended)

Jono Jarrett Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 08:20 AM EST

Thank God--more Sharon Gless!!!

Gretchen Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

I'm psyched! I love PSYCH and Monk. Never got into Burn Notice, but I've heard it's great. USA is awesome at developing extraordinary shows!

CandyMaize Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 01:54 PM EST

WOO HOO!!! Although, I can't say that I am surprised by the news - both shows have been doing well and still have plenty of stories available for the telling - I am thrilled nonetheless because I love both shows.

Priscellie Sat, Oct 11, 2008 at 01:13 PM EST

JOY! Two of my favourite shows! Now the suits at ABC only need to renew Middleman and Pushing Daisies, and my TV schedule shall be complete.

kristina Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 04:53 PM EST

Now lets get them to bring back the 4400 and the dead zone! sigh!

Sam Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 03:47 PM EST

OMG, I would be lost without my Psych. It's only the best part of Fridays.

Big D Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

Awesome!! Best news item of the year!! Two of my absolute favorite shows!! One question, any news on the staus of Monk?

Meredith44 Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

Burn Notice is absolutely my favorite show at the moment, even though it is on hiatus, and I enjoy Psych as well, so this is really good news.

I can't wait for January! (Well, except for the snow. I could do without the snow. *grin*)

Tony C Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

Psych is the best show on TV. No need to say more.

Mooshki Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 01:26 PM EST

Thank god, both of these shows are amazing.

FamousJuan Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 12:29 PM EST

In the spy world, whether or not an agent gets cancelled can be a dicey proposition. If they can't do things to keep their narrative fresh and not sounding stale, they end up on the block. But a spy can always count on explosions and hot women to keep him safe.

dianask Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

Hey Evelyn, Here's another San Antonio person who loves Psych & Burn Notice. My husband likes these shows too. I had ignored Pysch the first season mostly because it was on USA network but soon realized that it was a great entertaining show. Burn Notice is a lot of fun & I love Jeffrey D (but not those dopey accents) & the awesome Bruce Campbell. These are shows that you can just sit down & enjoy.

Tiffany Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 11:38 AM EST

Excellent news...these are two of my favorite shows!

PJ Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 11:01 AM EST

I am so excited for Burn Notice! I absolutely LOVE this show!! I've gotten my sister and 2 of my son's addicted to it as well as several online buddies!!! I don't know when I have been so hooked on a tv show!!!

And Psych is just plain fun! I can't wait for them both to return in January!!!

Lori Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM EST

This is the best news! Psych is my all time favorite "light" viewing show. It is the only show I watch multiple times just to catch everything I may have missed and laugh twice at all the good stuff! James Roday and Dule Hill are brilliant!

Todd Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

Yay more Burn Notice

Lauren Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 10:26 AM EST

Love both those shows, but still bitter about 4400!!!!! it was so much better than heroes! :(

David Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 10:21 AM EST

Heck yeah! Two of my favorite shows renewed for another year. I'm sure Monk isn't too far behind, if it hasn't already been renewed.

McGix Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 08:00 AM EST

oh yeahhh, I'm super-psyched :D

Rachel K Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 07:48 AM EST

Yay!!! Thanks Ausiello for this wonderful scoop. It made my day!

Anonymous Fan Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 07:46 AM EST

Burn Notice is back!!! Whooohoooo, THANK YOU for just making my day! Hopefully USA will keep making smart decisions for a long time. :)

VW Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 06:55 AM EST

I love Burn Notice! In fact, I watch the cable series shows most of the time now - who needs the regular networks?

Bren Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 03:38 AM EST

I love Burn Notice. I remember thinking Gale would have made a great Michael. It's a sexy role AND it has Sharon Gless in it! Jeffrey D. is doing a great job.

Jen80 Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 12:35 AM EST

YAY for Psych!!! It's the simplest, easiest piece of TV you could possibly watch, but it's so adorable. James Roday tosses off some hilarious lines, and Dule Hill makes a great "straight guy" to Roday's idiot savant. It's an easy, enjoyable, stress-free hour of TV, exactly what I want to watch after a hard day of work.

miranda Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 11:42 PM EST

Yay! my two favorite shows!!!!

Sina Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 10:52 PM EST

Thank you USA Network! I love Psych, Burn Notice not so much. I wish I did but Fi just looks so nasty with that bad tan and her bones sticking out her chest. But I can't live without Psych. Just don't hook up Shawn and Julia just yet.

jake Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

My only negativity is why Psych for only 16 episodes??? I wish they would air earlier, I feel like all the awards shows forget about it -- especially james roday who has deserved a LONG OVERDUE nomination. Can you make that happen mr. ausiello?

Kristen Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 10:22 PM EST

Psych is my life!! USA network is AWESOME!

Perkle Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 09:38 PM EST

Love Burn Notice!

erin Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:54 PM EST

In Plain sight was renewed a while ago.

Becky Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

I love Psych. But any news on In Plain Sight?

Mikaylah Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:35 PM EST

I love BOTH of these shows!!! I am so excited!

Lisa Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:27 PM EST

""Burn Notice" is absolutely THE best! I'm so excited we don't have to wait a whole year for the next shows! What a line up they'd have with "Monk", "Psych" and "Burn Notice". Awesome

Jeffrey Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:20 PM EST

This news makes my day!!! I have both these shows set for a season pass on my TIVO. Two of the best shows on TV!!! Off to celebrate with yogurt and a pineapple!!!

Carrie Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 08:09 PM EST

Awesome! I love both of these shows. What about "Monk", though? I wonder if this will be the last season. If that's the case (get it?), I will certainly miss it.

beta_monkey Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 07:51 PM EST

Another season of Bruce Campbell... woohoo!

Beege Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 07:48 PM EST

Michael, you just made my day!!!

Cecilia Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 07:11 PM EST

I absolutely love "Burn Notice"!!!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!

Mia Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 06:40 PM EST

YEAH!!!!!
I am so excited!
I used to get super excited about the Fall TV lineup, now I am mostly excited about the USA lineup.
LOVE THAT USA!!!

Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

I'm so happy! Both these shows are awesome!!!

Serbalicious Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 05:43 PM EST

YESSS!!! Thank you USA for making my day...Psych and Burn Notice are my absolute favorite shows and I LOVE that they are getting the recognition they deserve!

Mike Westin, Shawn and Gus ROCK!

this just made my day! :D

Jenny Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 05:29 PM EST

They are 2 of my absolute favorite shows and the news couldn't have made me happier. :D

Awesome news! Burn Notice is one of the best shows on TV today.

aa Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

Laila Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:59 PM EST

Alexandra Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:57 PM EST

OMG YES! thank you USA! You rock! :D I love BOTH psych and Burn Notice, so happy to see that these awesome shows are getting their recognition :D

rebecca Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

YAAYY!! I LOVE BURN NOTICE AND REALLY LOVE JEFFREY DONOVAN!I just hope USA pays him more considering he is in a movie by Clint Eastwood that is ALREADY GETTING OSCAR BUZZ!

Evelyn Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:46 PM EST

I am so glad to see so many "Psych" fans. It seems it's only me and my husband who watch the show here in SA, TX. And Roday is from here, too. I'm am so excited about the Christmas special!!!! Can't wait till November 28th!!!! Evelyn

T-rev Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:42 PM EST

FANTASTIC!!! Burn Notice and Psych are two of the best shows on TV. Best news all day.

Sillypants Jackson Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

YAY FOR PSYCH. This show does not get enough recognition. It's my favorite show on TV (besides Lost). Glad to hear about the Christmas special, too! Didn't know about until I saw it here.
Go USA Network. They get a cookie.

Kate Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

Thank goodness. I will promise this is my last drumming of this drum, but if only NBC decided to be devious and pick up Moonlight and pair it with Burn Notice as a summer series, imagine the dreamy two hours we would have on Thursday nights between Mick and Michael, the fun deviousness of Joseph and Fi, the romance of Mick/Beth and Michael/Fi, and the humor of Sam and the tech guy from Moonlight. Sigh.

Zachary Daenzer Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:02 PM EST

I used to be a fan of MacGuyver back in the 80's, and I've felt a void in my life since then. Since the first episode of Burn Notice, I knew two things, a) This was better than MacGuyver, and b) it would probably be canceled by the end of the first season. I am happy to be wrong one the one account. As for Psych...I got tried not to like it. I was bored one night, and...it's now one of my all time favorites. It's good to know that with times the way they are these actors have some job security.

sara m Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:56 PM EST

I. Love. Psych!

Jenny Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:54 PM EST

I was trying to come up with a clever 80s or Judd Nelson reference but all I could come up with was, "Alright! Awesome news!"

I love Psych!

Michele Thompson Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:47 PM EST

SO HAPPY to hear my fave "boys" (Sean & Gus and Michael & Sam) will be back in January!! USA is getting to be THE NETWORK to watch: with Psych, Burn Notice, Monk (I hope my fave obsessive detective will be back too) and my other ALL-TIME FAVE: Robert Goren on Law&Order: Criminal Intent!!

XK Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:47 PM EST

Great news. Two very fun shows.

bj Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

PINEAPPLE and Yogurt for all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok now cancel monk already

Flap Jackson Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:42 PM EST

Yay Psych!

But what's the status on Monk?

Elle Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

Great news about Psych, but what about Monk?

yay!!!!! Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:38 PM EST

i LOOOOOOOOOVE psych!!!!....thought i was the only one cause let's face it, it's probably the silliest show on tv.

JaniceM Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

I love both these shows. I have to honest thought, that "Psych" has gone a little too silly for me. Shawn and Gus are my favorite team, but I hope they reign in the goofiness just a bit next season.

"Burn Notice" is one of the best shows on the air, and Jeffrey Donovan totally rocks.

Nancy Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Any news on Monk?

kb Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

I love "Psych"!! it has some of the funniest, quickest dialogue on T.V. and not enough people know that.

Lorie Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:33 PM EST

Woo Hoo!! Great news about 2 of my must-see shows.

Cait Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:20 PM EST

Yay. Psych is one of my favourite shows, so glad it got a re-new. It totally deserves it, it's a great spin on all the other crime shows on TV at the moment.

daxlinc Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

I'm so "Psych"ed the USA Network didn't "Burn" it's loyal viewers, and hopefully both these shows will get more "Notice" in their upcoming seasons!!

Meg Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:17 PM EST

Awesome!! Love James Rodan and Dule Hill--incredible casting and roles together on Psych.

Sammi Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

I'm extremely happy to hear this news. Psych and Burn Notice are two of my favorite shows on TV right now. So I'm very glad that they both got renewed for new seasons next year!

izikavazo Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

Well I'm thrilled. These shows are awesome. The acting is surprisingly goos and the premises allow the stories to never becoming boring. And best of all they are consistant, I can never remember episodes that I don't like, from either of these shows. They'll never become mainstream or very popular, but me and my firends love them.
