Exclusive: Julie Bowen Returns to 'Boston Legal'

Sep 25, 2008, 05:05 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: Boston Legal

Juliebowen_lJulie Bowen, whose Boston Legal eagle Denise is currently enjoying what has to be one of the longest maternity leaves in U.S. history, is heading back to Crane, Poole & Schmidt this November, sources confirm to me exclusively.

Bowen, who made her last appearance in May '07 when Denise left to be a mom, will appear in this season's 10th episode -- two before the big series finale.

Speaking of which...

Bowen's Legal hubby/baby daddy, Mark Valley, is not expected to turn up in the episode -- no big surprise considering what he told me at the Fringe premiere last month -- but someone else is. I've been asked not to reveal the identity of the returning alum as his/her deal is not yet finalized. It should be soon though.

In the meantime, guess away in the comments section. If you're right, you might end up winning some cool swag. You probably won't, but, hey, you might.

*crosses fingers* Please be Rhona Mitra. Please be Rhona Mitra. PLEASE BE RHONA MITRA!!!

Seriously, am I the only Tara fan still holding on out there?

kaile Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 05:54 AM EST

when denise was gone i didnt watch BL since then now that she's back,i will definetely be a fan again....i miss brad too.....

Julie Rose Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 12:01 AM EST

If it can't be Mark Valley, then I want it to be Craig Bierko!

Merve The Perve Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

I wouldn't mind seeing Lake Bell's character coming back with one of her most innapropriate outfits, maybe something see-through.

Jenn67 Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 11:50 AM EST

How I missed the news that the series was ending is beyond me. But I am infinitely saddened by this turn of events (tardy as it may be). My life just got a little darker. This is by far one of the best shows on television. As for last week's episode, I did enjoy seeing the brief return of Shirley Schmidt-Ho.

Snsetblaze Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:22 AM EST

I did not know that this was the last season of the show. The last interview I read with Shatner said he had no idea why it was a shorter season at 13 episodes. I am bummed. What happened to a couple of the characters this season that just disappeared - i.e Clarence, Lorraine and Whitney. Boston Legal always did this with characters. I know the Whitney character basically had nothing to do and Lorraine was supposed to be Alan's eye candy but Clarence was always fun.
Personally, I hope its Betty White returning. They should also make the actress playing Bethany a regular.

nhnonna Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 08:17 AM EST

I would certainly LOVE to see Michael J Fox return......

oldrockchick Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:58 AM EST

I think it would great if the show came full circle and ended with Larry Miller coming back as Poole, since he was taken away in the first episode. Although any original Practice members would be great. I love this show and am so sad it's almost over.

Daniel Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:54 AM EST

Yeah, I agree with 3b and Brian who said Rhona. Tara was the first character I thought of as an obvious one to bring back. She shouldnt have left in the first place:)

Daniel Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:50 AM EST

Yeah, I agree with 3b ans Brian who said Rhona. Tara was the first person

Penelope Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:29 AM EST

Great news!

j Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 06:53 AM EST

Doris Thumper (actress Yvette Nicole Brown) - the girl who was shy and sang on two episodes. She was great and I had hoped they would develop that character as a friend for Clarence. I also enjoyed Monica Potter.

Marcia Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 05:48 AM EST

Michael J. Fox

You need to stay up to date with the news Michael.

Boston Legal is an expensive show and at least one ABC person hates the show. So last season there was a lot of talk about it being canceled. However David E Kelly did something with Life on Mars and ABC gave Boston Legal a final 13 episode season 5. The show will be ending in 12 more episodes.

DB Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 02:23 AM EST

when Julie Bowen's character was pregnant, she was having affairs with both Mark Valley's character and...Craig Bierko's character. Valley was the father, but Bierko fell in love with Bowen, so I hope he comes back. loved him.

Michael B. Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 11:37 PM EST

Wait! Is this the last season of Boston Legal? You said that she will "Bowen, who made her last appearance in May '07 when Denise left to be a mom, will appear in this season's 10th episode -- two before the big series finale."

Do you mean SEASON FINALE? And why is this season so much shorteR?

Deion Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 11:31 PM EST

Larry Miller and a lack of pants, FTW

dede Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:55 PM EST

I would love to see the peeping tom back for an episode....that Christmas episode was hilarious when he held Shirley hostage!

Dana Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:29 PM EST

I'd love to see Rene Auberjonois back as Paul Lewiston, if only for one more appalled reaction to some Denny weirdism. We all were left with the impression he was busy managing from a corner office, anyway, so let him wander out and wag a finger.

Stephen S. Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:42 PM EST

Rhona Mitra coming back would be cool. So would the old guy who played Odo in Star Trek: DS9.

And I'm so glad Bowen is coming back. I loved her so much. But it sucks that Mark Valley probably won't be back.

What about Freddie Prinze Jr? I think it would be cool if he came back. Even though he turned out to not be Denny's son, he's still pretty much like a son, just not in blood.

Ryan Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:30 PM EST

I would love Eugene, Eleanor, Bobby, or just about anyone from The Practice to show up. I don't see it happening though.

sam Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:54 PM EST

I lost track of the show the last few years. But I am watching the final season. I like Julie Bowen and wish she was on more episodes than just the 10th...isn't there only 11 episodes this season?

erin Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:40 PM EST

Tom Selleck???!!!???

Boston Legal Viewer Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

WHO CARES? This show has always been about Spader and Shatner. Maybe Bergen to a small extent. But with the exception of Betty White, none of the others have ever mattered. Can anyone name any of the other stars over the years aside from the ones whose names are famous already (Larroquette)? TV is supposed to be about making stars, and this show never made any new star. So who cares if Julie Bowen is coming back? It's not like Patrick Duffy coming back to Dallas, or even Jason Priestley making an appearance on the new 90210.

3b Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 08:20 PM EST

It has to be Rhona Mitra. no really, DEK, got that... it HAS to be Rhona Mitra; theres no other past who nds to be present in the shows finale more than Tara Wilson

socalj Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 07:32 PM EST

She was always wondering if he faked his death to spare her the pain until he was cured....MICHAEL J. FOX for the win.

watev Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 06:37 PM EST

Lake Bell

Zet Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 06:35 PM EST

Craig Bierko? Please?

Rachel K Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 06:32 PM EST

**Coho, my bad!

Rachel K Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 06:31 PM EST

Please let it be Jeffrey Soho!

David Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:55 PM EST

Betty White is already returning, I'm really hoping it's René Auberjonois.

steve Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

How about Steve Harris (as JUDGE Eugene Young) from The Practice?

I wouldn't mind Rebecca DeMorney, either!!

Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:39 PM EST

Rona Mitri. PLEEASE!!!

Brian Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

I'd love it if it was Rebecca DeMornay (from the run on the Practice that introduced Denny Crane). I'd be good with Rhona Mitra, too. Maybe it'll be Camryn Manheim.

Chris Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:30 PM EST

dylan mcdermott

George Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

They never should have let Julie Bowen go in the first place.

Selat Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:17 PM EST

Sharon Stone

telestrekoza Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:05 PM EST

Jeffrey Cojo?

izikavazo Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:58 PM EST

Yes, let's all hope that it's Rhona Mita. That would make for a great ending for Alan.
I can't believe someone wants Lori back, and becuase she's normal. That's why she had to leave, she was too normal.

Shawn Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:52 PM EST

Please be Betty White

Mike Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:28 PM EST

Larry Miller as Edwin Poole?

marc Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:27 PM EST

I hope it's Rhona Mitra who had amazing chemistry with James Spader

tamara Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:24 PM EST

I want Monica Potter to return. I miss Lori. She was the only normal character on the show.

Sam Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:21 PM EST

for the love of God, I hope its Rhona Mitra
