'90210' Scoop: Garth's Staying, Doherty's Leaving!

Sep 10, 2008, 03:28 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: 90210 Casting News!

90210_l Just like Brandon, Dylan, Steve, Colin, and Matt before them, 90210's producers just can't get enough of Kelly. So, my sources tell me, they've signed Jennie Garth to appear in five episodes on top of the six to which she originally agreed.

So now we're gonna get the Kelly-Brenda rematch we've all been waiting for, right?

Erm, no. Though Shannen Doherty may return later in the season, for now it appears that the first four episodes she signed on for will also be her last (the second of those episodes airs next week). "They asked me to do a lot more," she says, but "I'm in the middle of pitching a show, [so] I couldn't commit to more than [I did]."

That being the case, the powers that be might want to reconsider ponying up the big bucks to get Tori Spelling back on board as Donna. Though the update's second eppy kept it Tuesday's highest-rated show with women 18-34 (2.9/8) and women 12-34 (2.5/7), its overall numbers took a hit opposite stiffer competition, including the premiere of Fringe.

What do you think? Does 90210 2.0 need Garth and Doherty to make the grade? Or are the new characters appealing enough to make the grade on their own merits? The comments section below is yours for the filling. (Additional reporting by Jessica Shaw)

Im a girl from Spain who is a big fan of BH 90210 and I also watched the new 90210 just for the old cast. its like seeing old friends again and find out how did they get on with their lives. I was really excited and we need more stories about our girls Kelly, Brenda and Donna and of course the rest of the cast!!! please, please

April Sat, May 23, 2009 at 11:14 PM EST

The real fact is the kids that are on the show are brand new. They some what test the fans by pulling Kelly and Brenda out of the picture to see how the show goes. For me personally, I watch for the character of Brenda because I've always loved her. I stopped watching after Shannen left the original BH 90210 because it wasn't as good without the whole Brenda/Kelly spin. Can the show make the grade? Maybe in time. But for now, they need to keep the crutch of the original cast to keep people watching. The premiere of season 2 will be a good test because we don't know if Kelly and Brenda will be back for the premiere. But the show needs both characters to make it work. Plain and simple.

Mary Fri, May 1, 2009 at 07:17 AM EST

I always expected for Brenda to have Dylan's baby. In her last episode, she was with Dylan and after Dylan's wife died, he stayed with Brenda for a while. I never really understood why the show made Dylan and Kelly soul mates when it should have been Brenda. Brenda and the Walsh's took Dylan in like family. I think fans from the beginning of BH 90210 agree. I like seeing Garth, Doherty, and Spelling back together on the show.

beka Mon, Mar 30, 2009 at 12:41 PM EST

I think they should bring back all of the cast from time to time. The old cast is the only reason that I still watch. So much was left undone when the season ended and now we need to see kelly get married finally to brandon or dylan. And David and Donna get married. Its like a movie without an ending. So make us all happy and bring it back. It will be popular for sure! And I know the old cast would love to do it.

Tina Gaydos Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 03:05 AM EST

Also (If it is not bkoke why fix it)That is so true,They should of started off where it left off Donna and David.Where r they now.Kelly and Branda or even Luke. They should of No they could of made the new 90210 with the old cast and it would of been a hit.If not Make a movie with the old cast..The 90210 movie.(Old cast not new)I have been waiting years for it.I thought after sex in the city did. That maybe 90210 would.Come on and make the MOVIE.I need no want to see it.If the new 90210 faild then make the movie with the old cast.u can never replace what was.

Tina Gaydos Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 02:57 AM EST

I like it with Kelly,Brenda, and it is great that Donna is coming back. Now i am a big 90210 fan watched every epicode. And I have to say having the three girls back would be great.I think 90210 is one of those shows that is never going to die,I think they need to make a movie like sex in the city did.But not with the new cast with the old cast.90210 was a great show and it was a big part of my life.It sounds funny but it is still a big part of my life. I but all the shows on dvd.And watch them and say god i can remember that or gee i forgot that even happened. It brings back memories of when i was a kid.Now my friends are borrowing the dvds now they r my age and they never watched them befor and they say god that is a great show.I wish i would of watched it back then.90210 is going to live on.But the new one.they cant try to replace it.They can try to make it better(but they cant)it is what it is.Bring back old cast will help(Tori spelling)(YES)But it can never replace what it was.

Damon Wed, Jan 7, 2009 at 04:56 PM EST

Shannen is too much drama. I have to say I did tune into the show originally to see what would happen between her and Jeannie Garth. However just like in the original, I'm ready for her to go and Jeannie to stay on board. I also would like to see some of the old cast members on the show, ie Jason Priestly, Luke Perry, David, etc.

SHANNEN DOHERTY FAN Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 04:56 PM EST

I AM SHANNEN DOHERTY'S #1 FAN THE ONLY REASON I WATCH THE NEW 90210 IS BECAUSE OF BRENDA.I THINK THE ONLY REASON 90210 IS THE CW'S NEW #1 SHOW IS BECAUSE OF SHANNEN. I DEFINATLY THINK 90210 NEEDS BRENDA TO KEEP THE SHOW A SUCCSESS. LIKE I SAID THE ONLY REASON I TUNE IN IS BEACAUSE OF SHANNEN.
IF BRENDA GOES I GO!!! I ALSO THINK IF SHANNEN GOES THE RATINGS WILL GO DOWN THE TUBES. I KNOW I WON'T WATCH ANYMORE IF BRENDA GOES. I THINK ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE WOULD ALSO AGREE WITH ME. BRENDA NEEDS TO STAY ON THE SHOW SHE ROCKS. 90210 DEFINATLY SHOULD KEEP SHANNEN. IF BRENDA GOES SO DO ALL THE VIEWERS.

Ryan Mon, Jan 5, 2009 at 07:13 PM EST

As Shannen Doherty's biggest fan, I admit the only thing sparking my interest to this show was her return. Some of the main characters are rather wooden and far too predictable- especially Annie. I really think the whole Kelly- Brenda dynamic is what is making the show at the moment and without them its beginning to look like the little show that wants to be as big as its older sibling and failing miserably..

whoever Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 10:14 AM EST

I think they should keep Kelly and brenda on. Especially Kelly. Like it or not, they are probably the reason half the people are watching. Bringing back some of the others would not hurt either. Without some of the original cast, i think it is a total snoozefest. The new ones are a little interesting but, I don't think they could carry the show on their own. I have to admit, if it was not for Kelly being on there, I probably never would have watched it.

margaret morales Wed, Oct 15, 2008 at 07:52 AM EST

I AGREE MOST OF THE PEOPLE HERE I HAVE WATCHED BRIEFLY THEN CHANGED THE CHANNEL THEY NEED TO BRING THE OLD CAST BACK, THIS NEW ONE SUCKS AND STORIES MAKE NO SENSE , EITHER KILL THE SHOW OR BRING OLD CAST BACK WITH NEW STORIES, LEFT OFF THE ORIGINAL SHOW DOONA AND DAVID GETTING MARRIED WHAT WAS NEXT EVERYONE ELSE IF THATHAPPENED MORE PEOPLE WOULD WATCH NOT THIS IMITATION OF WHAT WAS , HEARD THE SAYING IF SOMETHING WAS NOT BROKEN WHY FIX IT. ENOUGH SAID,.MARGARET MORALES

mc Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 05:22 PM EST

Now as I remember Dylan and Brenda were supposedly in Europe married or something with the old show, soooo what happened? How can Kelly be saying Brenda has no business with Dylan? It is the other way around and always has been.

britdani Tue, Oct 7, 2008 at 09:14 PM EST

I like the new characters and I think that they will do well with the show. However I love the sister relationship between Silver and Kelly and I would be disappointed to see that end.

Silver Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

I think the show will do alright but Brenda just adds so much more contrast to the show.It would be great to see some of the old characters like Steve and David make an appearance.I think Brenda should stay. Oh well I guess we will see how it goes.

Suzanne Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

I think they need more of the old characters to keep it alive. That's what they did with Degrassi Junior High and that worked out well. More involved stories with the old characters as well as the new. Grown-ups fighting more....give it some zing!!!

lt Wed, Oct 1, 2008 at 11:50 AM EST

Why don't they just do a spin off with the original cast-they need the work- that interacts with the new cast? I loved the original 90210 and still watch it nightly on Soapnet.

peace Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 11:19 PM EST

i only watched the show for Brenda...she was usually the one that made things interesting.

Laura Tue, Sep 30, 2008 at 08:33 PM EST

I only watch the show because of Kelly and Brenda I feel like fast forwarding through all the other actors parts.

fer Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 06:19 PM EST

I only see the show by Brenda ... she is the star of 90210..

Jodi Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 07:23 PM EST

I have waited many years for this group to be reunited. I only watch the new 90210 because Kelly and Brenda were going to be on it. I am just hoping that some of the others will join and and atleast show their faces and let us have an update on where their lives led them. Are Donna and David still married? What about Val or Gina? How about Colin, did he survive prison and turn his life around? Matt? Mrs Teasley? Andrea and Jesse? Donna's mom, did she ever find love again? Jim and Cindy? Steve and Janet? Steve vowed that he would always stay in California. They were such a tight nit group I can't imagine that they arent still in touch. Maybe atleast a phone call now and then with the others that are missing revealing what they are doing these days. I watch the reruns of 90210 every day on the soap opera channel. I just love it. I watch it until the season ends, and then turn around and watch it all over again. I really wish we knew what was up with them all.

Angie Wed, Sep 24, 2008 at 01:19 AM EST

Beverly Hills 90210 was interesting when they have Brenda and Dylan. The time Brenda left was the time I stopped watching. Dylan and Brenda was the shows golden couple. Intense and passionate couple. Kelly and Dylan was a poor imitation and a poor replacement of Dylan and Brenda. Now I tuned in again hoping to see Brenda with the new cast and it was nice. But I'll stop watching again if Shannen decides to leave. Gossip Girl is really better anyways.

sc Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 02:25 PM EST

This show would be fine if the old characters weren’t on the show. The new characters have there own fan base. Tristan Wilds has many fans already. Silver, Naomi and Naomi’s on and off bf are pretty good looking to keep there own fan base. It’s just the older ppl who are obsessed with the old 90210 that wants those characters back. CW shouldn’t even worry about having to keep Garth and Shannen or to bring anyone else back; it is so not about them. And there would be less zipping back and forth with out those extra characters. Its 2008 ppl the old 90210 is corny and wack, there are new, fresh faces now. So later old fogies.

d- VA Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 10:59 AM EST

I love Brenda! Shannon is a much better actress than Tori-the only reason Tori was on the original was because of her dad. Kelly & Brenda bring much more to the deal with their dynamic. Who wants to see Donna on the show being all way-to-sweet & cheesy?!!

Joanna Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 11:04 PM EST

I loved BH 90210, but once Brenda left, I stopped watching the show. I guess we shall wait and see what will be of the new 9021.

Liz Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 10:02 AM EST

Count me among the suckers who want to see more of the old cast. I can live with or without Donna - always felt she was the weakest link on the orig 90210, but Tori has grown on me over the years. No disrespect to current cast, they are doing a nice job, just hungry for more nostalgia. The Dylan-as-Dad reveal shot my hopes through the roof for a (Nov. sweeps?) appearance by Luke Perry.

Esi Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

I agree with the cast being to slim and I did notice the salad. what was up with that. My daughter and her friends eat regular food and they should show this.
a chicken salad would have been better and a fruit.

Richard Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 02:17 PM EST

Love Shannen! Once Brenda is gone I am gone.

d Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

Love how I just read an article about how concerned we should be about how the actresses on this show are too thin - and then I read all of the comments here begging not to bring the "ugly" girl (Hannah) back. No worries, EW. Clearly being anorexically thin is way better than not looking like a model. Here's to a whole new generation of girls with eating disorders who look like whores. It's what Americ wants!

Linda Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:20 AM EST

I think the show is o.k...but it is not as good as the first show. They used to delve into a story for the entire hour on the old show..on this show they zip back and forth so fast between all the actors that you don't really get to care about any of them.
I like that the parents get to be sexy and have their own story..but other then that, the show needs to improve. And why so many commercials?
Garth is doing a pretty good job and I'm glad Dylan is the Dad..hope he comes on the show.
Shannon is leaving, but I'm sure it is not cause she is busy with other stuff..she always lies about being fired!
And Tori should get the same pay as them. She is the BEST of the bunch!
Shame on the show for not giving Tori her due!

linda Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 12:15 AM EST

I think the new 90210 is o.k....but it lacks the warmth of the original show. They don't spend enough time on the characters to make you really care about them. On the first show they made a story about one or two characters for the whole hour..on this show they zip back and forth so fast you never really get into any one persons story long enough. And too many commercials!
I think Garth is doing a pretty good job and am glad she is staying...and am also glad that Dylan is the father of her son, though he looks more like Steves son with that hair. LOL
And Shannon always hides behind the fact that she is leaving because the cast and crew usually don't like her superior attitude!
The show should be ashamed of itself for not paying Tori the same amount of money as Garth and Doherty. She is the BEST of the bunch!

heather Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 08:13 PM EST

with the current story lines going on it makes sense to hae kelly on- plus the potential story lines are very similar to the original show. i think to really have brenda stay on they need to bring some other characters in too. kelly makes sense- with her sister being on the show and being a counselor.

stacey Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 08:04 PM EST

Majority of the viewers for 90210 are coming from the older viewers who watched the original show and the NAME 90210.....Everyone knows beverly hills 90210 was a huge hit. So it only makes since to bring back the old characters in order to gain higher rating. With that said I'm a huge fan of the old show and decided to give the new one a chance because of jennie, shannon and the NAME ITSELF. Hopefully we have more scenes like the one with Silver, kelly and their mother. that was the best part last week.

lala Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 04:06 PM EST

They need Kelly. I like that they have her sister Silver on the show. Plus they have the story of her son . Who's the Father? Kelly is what makes it 90210!

Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 11:08 AM EST

Love Brenda
hate Kelly

Sue Mon, Sep 15, 2008 at 10:32 AM EST

I watched it because of Kelly, no one else really...thrilled she'll be on more...hoping some of the other cast will be back too loved seeing Nat and Jackie too...here's hoping well see more of the old cast back!

Old Cast, New Cast Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 08:18 AM EST

Great news they are keeping Jennie Garth involved as a pivotal part of the show. She's great and the presence of the original cast makes the show unique and gives it a history. The new characters need a lot more development to make viewers stick. I'm sure no matter the current PR posturing of the other original cast members, they would all get with the program if the price was right. The CW is road testing to see if it needs them...

Maureen Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 04:44 PM EST

I don't think comparisons with Gossip Girl are either necessary or doable. It's two completely different shows. So thank goodness we will NOT have Blair and Chuck on here, they'd be totally out of place on 90210. This is not supposed to be like Gossip Girl at all. It's a West Coast show in Beverly Hills, not an East Coast one in NYC, and that alone sets the huge difference between the two.

I disagree with the comment about the girls not having soul. I find Annie a whole lot better than Brenda was in the first season.. and I agree with whoever said that people are completely forgetting what the first season of 90210 was like and making comparisons based on seasons after. The first season had a lot of the actors being really, really bad. These new ones are MUCH better than most of those in the first season of the original 90210.

I also find this new take much edgier and much more interesting. The adults on the original were completely boring. I like them here. AND I like all the teens

Kyle Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 01:19 PM EST

If they're going to bring back Hannah, then I hope they remember to put a bag over her head first.

shawniejo Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

Jennie Garth, who I have always loved, is the only reason I tuned in at all. I will keep watching so long as she is on~ which I hope is for the entire season. In the meantime, I'll just keep on holding out hope for Luke Perry to walk into a scene one day soon. For we who grew up watching 90210, it would be an amazing and very satisfying reunion!

bootsycolumbia Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 08:14 PM EST

I agree--don't bring back Donna! Tori Spelling is a rotten actress who I wish would just go away. I'm only borderline liking this show right now, but if Donna comes back, I'll stop watching it for real.

tampadee Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 07:47 PM EST

(2 of 3) Jason Prieson might appear (maybe not this season) he has been doing directing jobs. Brian Austin Green is on co starring or guest starring in "Terminator The Sarah Conon Conicoles." So he wont be on the show anytime soon. Tiffany Thiessen (Jennie Garth's best-friend in real life) is not interested in appearing in the new series because she wants to have a baby instead. And as for most other old 90210 characters... DONT HOLD YOUR BREATH, they most likely wont be making any appeares in the near future or ever on this series for that matter. Check out the details @: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/90210_(TV_series) Remember, also factor in that this is CW's 90210 not Aron Spelling's BH 90210, so things arent going to be the same or alike much at all, this is a whole new ball game.

tampadee Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 07:29 PM EST

(1 or 2) I think Shannen Doherty should be cast as a 2ndary regular like Jennie Garth. Shannen is very talented, beautiful, and took alot of old fans from the old show. She also brings plenty alot of fans to the new show. She's been a director and producer. Sure she may be know for her temperamential behavior but she is a great asset to this show. Part of the reason why Tori Spelling hasnt hasnt appeared in the new series is becasue of lack of pay she wanted, I believe had she come to agreement about her salary w/ producers she would have been in the first episode bcuz the when really famous girl and the main female character went to the mall they were suppose to go to a high in clothing store to buy a dress (which would have been of course Donna Martin's store). But Tori backed out of the deal.

james Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 03:59 PM EST

Although I love Shannen and her portrayal of Brenda, i will be sad to see her go once her contract expires. However, since she neither quit or was fired, I still have hope that she will come back (physically, not in conversation like the original 90210). She even stated herself that scheduling conflicts prevented her from signing on for more episodes and that she's open to appearing in more episodes. Hopefully, those scheduling conflicts clear up and us original 90210 fans can see more Brenda.

Don Jariyasunant Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

90210 Cast Members not in show:

Jason Priestly: Will not appear, has directing and acting gigs booked until 2009. This is on Zap2it.com. He declined a cameo in the pilot.

Ian Ziering: Also will not appear. Mentioned it in TV Guide several weeks ago.

Luke Perry: Mentioned in TV Guide that he will not appear on it either.

Gabrielle Carteris: From what I can tell, she has not been approached yet.

Tori Spelling: You all know the news with her. As of right now, she's not appearing due to money.

Tiffani Thiessen: Said No in TV Guide several months ago.

james Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

Keep Donna as far away from this thing as possible. Bring back Dylan, Steve, Brandon, Brenda... even Andrea would be more welcome than Donna.

Alison Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

I like the new show but not as much as I liked the old show and that's okay with me. It doesn't have to be a carbon copy of the old show. I think they absolutely need to get Tori Spelling back on the show. She tops Shannen Dougherty any day in my book.

Nadine Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 12:00 PM EST

I am enjoying the new 90210 but it is lacking something to make it bigger and better!! I hope that shannon comes back because she when she left the original 90210 is really went downhill!! I think that Kelly is doing a good job as well!!

To sanen85 Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:43 AM EST

I'm sorry you think you are ugly and my comments hurt you but I stand by my statement. This is a fantasy, glamourous show and I don't want unglamourous people on the show to play the stock "smart girl". Why can't a smart girl also be gorgeous? Why do we have to continue to propagate the stereotype that intelligence and beauty cannot coexist. If they want to bring on Hannah Zuckerman, recast her with a hot Latina girl. She can be the exact opposite of her mother -- hot, mean but still a brilliant mind who is dedicated to her education. Look at Blair Waldorf on GG. She is beautiful and a dedicated student with her eye on Yale. If they just bring on a frizzy-haired loser in Kohl's clothing that starts hanging out with the beautiful people, I will barf and stop watching.

Don Jariyasunant Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

The show cannot survive if everyone is hoping that the entire cast of the original will return. I think it has some good grounding for standing on it's own with Rob Estes and Lori Loughlin. The only actor who is horrible is AnnaLynne McCord as Naomi. I do like Shenae Grimes, even though she is way to perky and happy along with being a toothpick in size. Even though I would love Jennie to stick around as a regular, she has said this is only a part-time job for her and her family and husband come first.

Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

The only reason I watch the show is for the oldies (Kelly, Brenda...) Bring it on, Donnna, David, the whole gang..My favorite part of last weeks episode was Kelly's Mom. I always loved Ann (Jackie) Fantastic actress!

rick Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 09:34 AM EST

jennie garth is the only reason old fans are sticking around. the scene w/ kelly & her drunk mom this past week was the best so far and reminded me so much of the old days. jennie needs to stay for sure, or the old fans will bolt....no matter who they dig up from the past. please no andrea zuckerman, sheeesh!

Melissa Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 09:11 AM EST

I love Jennie Garth. I think she should stay on completely. Although, the new cast is really good. I know they could make it on their own.

darkprince Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 02:54 AM EST

I think having Shannen back on the show was a great idea. I am glad that Brenda has matured, and her and Kelly are finally cool after fifteen long years. It provides closure to unresolved narrative. Shannen is in her late 30's and looks fine. Give her a break. I wish the writers and producers would give them more scenes. I think the new show blows chunks. Navid is cute, but all the "teens" are completely uninteresting. I can't stand the girls! They are just a bunch of stick figures with no souls. Jessica Walter delivers her one-liners well, but she seems out of place and her character does not have any real function except to make witty but completely random wisecracks. The new 90210 needs to step up its game. Gossip Girl a(t least the first season) was a lot more compelling and sharper. I wonder who can be the Blair or Chuck of the show? They need at least two more nuanced characters/actors to make this show a little more pleasureable.

Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 02:41 AM EST

And a new show will never be that successful as 90210 is now.....

I wish that Shannen sign for a lot more episodes - that her contract is as like heather locklear it was in Melrose Place .....

Pinky Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 01:41 AM EST

I watched the original 90210 from the 1st eppy till Brenda left then it went down hill from there, the show wasn't the same. I only tuned into to the new series waiting for Brenda. Her first appearence must have been very crappy (shame on the writers)because I missed her. the story lines really Bite, the girl who played(Darcy on De-Grassi which I still love needs to be taken off this show) Actaully, the original show needs to be locked in a vault, and sold only on DVD,as a collectors item then, all the eppisodes when Tiffany-A.Thiesen came on should all be burned, she only got on cause she was Brian A.Green's girlfriend in real life at that time, PS, for all the people with no taste in talent this remake is a big train reck, & really Bites,(**Remeber folks,History should never try to Be re-written, it distorts the facts**) The Greatest thing to happen 2 90210 was Brenda Walsh/Shannen Doherty.

jpratm Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:51 PM EST

to be honest i never watched the original .. i was too young to care and by the time i was older i my intererest was elsewhere im buying the original series and will likely watch this new attempt... i love gennie garth...

birdndog Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 09:27 PM EST

Sorry. I just hate that every program centers around sex and other themes that are really adult. I know kids are more advanced but gee where have all the cute things that high school kids do gone?

steve Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 08:23 PM EST

A solution. Cancel 90210 and put Jennie Garth on Gossip Girl as a recurring character. She's the only thing from 90210 worth salvaging - the rest is a mess.

Ally Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 06:52 PM EST

While I didn't miss an episode of the old 90210, I am not watching this new series for the old characters. And I don't think the series is meant to be for old characters at all. It's a new series with new people. I like and am interested in the new people, not the old ones. While I agree Kelly is a very welcome add-in to the cast, I don't see any reason why others should show up continuously. It's neither necessary nor productive. Once we learn who the father of Kelly's baby is, he may or may not show up. That won't make a difference. The show isn't about her, it's about the new characters.

I find Kelly interesting because she blends in with the new characters, not because I'm interested in her past. Love her with Ryan. I definitely watch for the new characters and new stories, the old 90210 ended years ago, and this is not meant to be it. I loved the first three episodes and will definitely watch the future ones.

Jessica Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 06:22 PM EST

I'm only watching the show for the adult characters. don't know if i'll keep watching w/o jennie garth

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 05:56 PM EST

Not that I need to correct myself but i meant Andrea and not Andrew.

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 05:55 PM EST

As cool as seeing more old charaters back would be, they don't need to show up for us to know what happened to them. The characters were such a close group that it's not inconceivable for us to learn through casual conversations what happened to some of them, ideally through Kelly. For example we can learn in a convo between Kelly and Silver about David and Donna. We will eventually learn what happened to the father which could be Brandon or Dylan. We can learn about Andrew if her daughter ever has a semi decent sized scene. We can learn about Steve some other way. People like Noah, Valerie, etc. we may not hear about. Nat could also mention some of them in a casual conversation as he'll be making more appearances.

I agree with Lucy Moore. I think the new show is very well done, it has good actors and it's fresh and interesting. I watched all of the episodes of the original series when I was a teen, and I really enjoy this new one too. Actually for now I find the actors, especially the adult ones, much better than those in the original. And that's right Lucy, escapism. My family and I love it too. And I love to see how easy on the eyes the cast is too! All of them. It's really a nice diversion. I hope it goes on.

Seriously? Who wrote that Jennie Garth can't have makeout scenes because she has family?? She is an actress! It's her job, to ACT! Most people in Hollywood are married and kiss plenty of people on screen, it's called acting!

Also I agree with whoever said that while Garth and Loughlin are smoking hot, Doherty looks like roadkill. Guess the type of life she led for quite a while made her pay the price. Very sad.

OldSkoolFan Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 05:48 PM EST

Im starting to appreciate the new show a bit more after last nights episode. It was actually much more tollerable then last weeks. Im glad to hear Jennie Garth is staying on because I love her and the way that the story line is unfolding for Silver, and the end shot with the three of them in bed laughing and eating was really really cool and touching. Plus who doesnt love kelly's mom? She is exactly the same!I wish they would think just a little more about the dialogue and the story arcs, but it is what it is, and i now think that there could be hope for this show after all. Lets kill the Nelly Furtado look-a-like chick already and bring Hannah back to fill that part with something scandalous. Maybe she could be the good girl gone bad story that the show needs. Have her fall in with Naomi and that crowed. Also it would be nice to add some more people with some flavor to the show. An hot, rich, asian girl maybe to hook up with Dixon.

Joyce Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 05:35 PM EST

I think that the original casts should return at least for a few episodes to let us know what happened after the show cancelled. I watched it for many years and was said to see it go. Yes and bring back Tori, I love her, she is a great actress. She has been in many lifetime movies. Tori and Donna are my favorite.

To Freedom Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

Jennie Garth hasn't acted in awhile? Her last show just went off the air 2-3 years ago that's not too long. Also if people who were married didn't have roles that involved kissing then a majority of soap, tv, and movie actors would be out of jobs or their character would be played by someone else until those actors/actresses got married. Then they'd have to quit or be fired since it's so unnacceptable to have a kissing role.

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

LOVE kelly and i hope they can get luke to come back to play dylan and i thought that out of the new people Silver is the best! i love the best with Silver kelly and there mom!

Fultron Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 04:43 PM EST

Nope. Jenny Garth and Lori Loughlin are smoking hot. Shannen Doherty looks like roadkill; she hasn't kept it together. Besides, don't you remember when she left/was kicked off the original series? Fans were glad to see her go then too.

The show needs to lean on something until people start to care about the new cast, but CW's budget can't afford to bring back all of the originals. Forget Luke Perry and Jason Priestly, they wouldn't touch it. Brian Austin Green and Iain Ziering were desperate enough to reprise themselves once already, they'd be game, but I don't see where they'd fit in. Bringing Tori back wouldn't be terrible, but they can't rely on too much of the old cast or it'll start to look really desperate. If it comes down to a 50-year-old Garbielle Carteris or a washed-up Jamie Walters, yikes, forget it.

Orlando, FL Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 04:20 PM EST

I really will like to see all the from cast of the original 90210... even if is for one episode. If that won't be possible; then I think they should bring as many cast member from the original 90210 as possible... to make it more intresting.

I don't think there's anything gross about any of them kissing any body else... is call "acting" hello......... do you now watch any movies?! How many actors are there in movies that have families and not only do they have a kissing part, but they may also have a sex part.

Think about that!

Lacy Moore Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 04:19 PM EST

My family and I are loving the new series. As a lover of the original...I never missed an episode and saw all of them multiple times...this show is just what we need right now. Escapism. I hope that it continues.

Freedom Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 04:13 PM EST

Wow. I couldn't believe the bad acting. Seeing Jenny Garth kissing another guy knowing she's got a family IRL was kinda gross when she's not been acting for quite awhile. The girl sleeping in the car was ANOREXIC. Ugh. The younger generation's acting SUCKED. I couldn't watch all of it and I'm the 90210 generation and loved that show. I hated it. I refuse to watch another episode, it's too agonizing. Buh Bye.

Drew Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 03:37 PM EST

Seriously people, get over it. This is NOT the original 90210 and it is NOT supposed to be it. It is a NEW show and it is NOT about the old characters, the old characters are just and only there to function as a "bridge", and that is IT. Newsflash: the ratings for the first episode were some of the best the CW ever had, and it wasn't for Brenda and Kelly since Brenda barely had a role in the episode. The third episode did well too. This is about the NEW characters and NEW stories, if you are nostalgic stop talking about this and just watch the reruns of the old one.

I personally find this much more interesting than the original one, and the cast in general MUCH better at acting than the original one in the first season. I do think most have forgotten what the first season of 90210 was like. Some characters were just ridiculously one-dimensional. Donna, Steve, David? They were ridiculous. And the actors were far from good. These new ones are much better.

sbeare Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 03:05 PM EST

CW needs to keep the original characters and continue some of the original story lines alive. That is the only reason I watch. I want to know what happen to all of them after David and Donna got married. We watch these characters develop for 9 sessions I want more of them. I do have to add that I really like the new characters too. As their roles develop they will be as strong. Too many times spin offs have one or two of the original characters but no tie to the original history/story line which is a key to keeping some of the old viewers. This show can bridge the old and new show and be THE show to watch for both old and new viewers.

Katie Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 03:04 PM EST

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T BRING BACK DONNA! There's no need to dish out the big bucks for Tori Spelling, she's never been a good actress and since her father's passing, she has been trying to stay in the spotlight, between writing her book which she exaggerated to get appeal to it to showing up with her kids and hubby to random photo ops...shes worse than heidi and spencer from the hills about wanting to be on the camera!! the shows great as it is, especially with jennie back, i just love her character. hopefully tori wont be back to try to steal the spotlight from her and all teh wonderful young characters they have on the show now.

Rob (ShutUpRob) Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 03:00 PM EST

I think that the show needs to 1) NOT bring Tori Spelling in -- ever -- and 2) go through a complete creative overhaul at the writing, directing and cinematographic levels. It's amateurish to the point that it doesn't even work as a guilty-pleasure show ala Las Vegas.
.
And the CW certainly has no excuse at all for putting it in the Gilmore Girls/Buffy timeslot. Privileged should go there and 90210.2.0 should, if not get cancelled, should go to the post-ANTM timeslot, just to finalize Wednesday nights as CW's Night O'Crap.

Dee Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 02:50 PM EST

I betcha Brenda doesn't have much going on like she said and if she did she should know her safest bet is with 90210.

Matthew Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

The need to keep Brenda. The show was terrible except for the scenes with her and Kelly in them. I would like the entire original cast to return including Tiffany Thiesen and Vanessa Marcel.

Alicia Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 02:00 PM EST

Kelly is a must on the show for me- she brings that piece of the old 90210 back and I like it- the new characters are good too, but I have a soft spot for the original cast.

sanen85 Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:37 PM EST

No Uglies Please - You sound like a completely horrid person who is uglier than any albino leper would ever be. It is clear that you will raise children with self-esteem issues that will develop eating disorders to live up to your expectations. BTW, yes pretty people do befriend ugly people.

Scout Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:32 PM EST

I definitely agree that Andrea was never a good character. I always thought she was annoying and never fit in with the group. I really hope they don't bring her back. I totally missed her kid though - guess I'll have to rewatch to find her.
I'd rather have Brenda on the show than Donna. And since we all know the two actresses won't work together - I hope they pick Shannen.

No Uglies, Please! Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:13 PM EST

Please don't add Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez to the show. No offense to the actress who plays her but she's not an attractive girl and I like this show with the glamourous beauties they have now. Don't add a lame plain Jane to the group and then expect us to believe that these hot kids would ever be friends with her except for out of pity, influential parents or because she's easy. Either recast the character or don't add her at all. And please don't add the chick who played Andrea Zuckerman to the show! She must be like 50 now and I was so happy when they got rid of her, I don't want her back.

I know, I'm horrible. Whatever, I don't care. This show and Gossip Girl are teen fantasies so I want everyone to be and to look glamourous, not frizzy-haired and looking 30 years old. And please get rid of the character of Naomi (rehab=easy out for a bad character) and bring in a better bad girl. The girl who played the kid sister in Bionic Woman would have been great but she's on a show.

Krista Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

YES - the need Kelly, Brenda & DONNA! The show sucks without them.

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:08 PM EST

I watch for Kelly, Dixon and Navid (and now Silver). I like Ethan too but I don't know about Shenae Grimes. She was great as Darcy on Degrassi but sucks so badly on this show. She needs to step up her game. Also, does anyone else want to see Dixon and Navid hook up? They have so much chemistry together. Yeah, I know they're best buds but they'd be cute together. No one? No one? Okay, fine!

Kerry Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 12:01 PM EST

The only reason I am giving the show a chance is because of Kelly and anyone else from the original cast. I do not currently watch any of the new shows like "Gossip Girl" because I am 28 and waaaay past highschool. But 90210 was and is my favorite show OF ALL TIME!!! I have to give it a chance but the new highschool kids kinda bore me and unless I get more of the old feeling I might not be around to watch much longer. Instead I will watch all 10 season I have on DVD and travel back to my own time.

Kis Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:31 AM EST

I think it's absolutely ridiculous to even bring back 90210. I was a fan of the original. And at 31, nothing is appealing about this show despite bringing back Kelly. They are really reaching here. If this survives the first year, I'll be shocked.

Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Dylan has to be the dad!

Brenda's Crooked Eyes Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

To be honest, unless Brenda evolved into a b*tch, having her on the show will be sort of useless if not boring. I never understood the Brenda-hating to begin with.

jess Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:12 AM EST

i say its good but it needs both brenda and kelly to be solid. also would love for brandon to be the father would explain why kelly had no problem leaving brenda with sammy cause she his aunt. and then that conversation she had and the comment she made about his moving around alot sounded like brandon's the daddy to me. I always thought Brenda and Dylan were it for each other hey maybe there still a couple and that's why she isn't interest inthe teacher.

Scout Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

Kelly has blonde hair so that has no factor in who the dad is. Stop reaching people.
Bring back Brandon to reunite with Kelly! Erin Silver and Kelly Taylor carry this show. Without the old cast on, I'm not watching.
They'll lose most of their viewers if they lose Kelly.

cRAIG Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

as for the new cast: i like Estes, Dixon, Silver & Navid. oh, and
Grandma Walter...

Curious? Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:55 AM EST

Do you think this Ausiello guy is a flamin' fruitbasket??? Hard to tell from his picture (sarcasm).
I once got a handjob from Steve Guttenburg at a rest stop in CT...seriously.

Leanne Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:53 AM EST

I'm a teen and i watch for the old cast, i just don't think the new one's fit, i wouldn't watch if all the old one's left because of this.

June Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:51 AM EST

who cares if Brenda leaves..her character doesn't even seem to fit into the new show. If they plan to bring back the vets, they should stick to the Kelly plan and bring back characters who will fit into her storyline like Brandon, Dillon (crossing my fingers) and David, since he is Silver's big bro. If you want the old cast back together watch the reruns and get over it.

Kristin Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:44 AM EST

Love Brenda. When she leaves I'll have one less show to Tivo! I think it's interesting that Shannen and Jennie were on all these magazine covers instead of the young cast - lots of people are just tuning in for the old cast! I hope they bring her back. And just wanted to echo what someone else mentioned about how crazy thin the girls are - I like the Silver character but good God, she is scary skinny.

cRAIG Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:30 AM EST

Dylan wouldn't bail: really? and how 'bout some respect for Steve & Janet...

Lisa Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Steve grew up a lot by the end of the show. To say that he'd bail may not be realistic unless it was some sort of affair thing that he didn't want Janet to find out about. Also plenty of curly haired people end up with their hair being straighter as they get older meaning that the curls could be how Kelly supposedly was when she was younger. So yes Steve is a possibility but the hair doesn't' make it a forgone conclusion.

Cricket Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:22 AM EST

I was a faithful fan of the original and have watched the first two of the new and, to be honest, the kids annoy me. The only reason I watch is for Jennie. If all the kids were removed and the show bacome more centered around Kelly, I think it would really take off. As for Sammy's dad - HELLO PEOPLE!! Look at the little boy: blond, slightly curly hair...remind you of someone? Steve Sanders maybe??? Steve would bail were Dylan and Brandon wouldn't. Think about it.

cRAIG Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 10:16 AM EST

Shannen Doherty was/is NOT 90210. not that Brenda wasn't a solid character, but i would argue that
two of the best seasons (5 & 6)
were without her. Tiffany Theissen's Val (initially, at least) was a solid
Brenda-replacement. You had some great storylines like Dylan-Toni and Kelly-Colin. Enough with the 90210 died with Brenda's exit argument: it's a myth...
