Rejoice! Fox Cancels 'Do Not Disturb'!

Sep 25, 2008, 04:26 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories:

Donotdisturb_lAnd the award for first cancellation of the new fall season goes to...Fox's Do Not Disturb!

Sources confirm to me exclusively that the critically savaged sitcom, starring a slumming Jerry O'Connell and Niecy Nash, has been axed after three low-rated episodes. The show's Wednesday time slot will be filled with repeats of 'Til Death, which upgrades the network's 9 to 10 p.m. comedy block from excruciatingly painful to unbearably painful. (And yes, that is an upgrade, albeit a very slight one.)

A Fox insider insists no official decision has been made re: Do Not Disturb's fate. UPDATE: Fox is now confirming the show's demise.

News comes just days after DND's producers publicly apologized for making such a crappy show.

All's forgiven!

Yeah, it was Listen 2 This. I liked those, but then they started not being exclusively about music, (they started to include video games & comic books too) http://cleaning.emenace.com/cleanroo93/index.html cleanroom construction undefined

melissa Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 02:11 PM EST

I really like the show and found it to be very funny. That sucks that FOX didn't give it a fighting chance.

ernesto Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

DO NOT DISTURB was full of comedy, i realy enjoyed the episode that i watched. I am sorry to hear it has been cancelled, wish they would of gave it a 2nd chance and a little more propaganda!

Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 07:36 PM EST

Omg how could you cancel Do Not Disturb? Hello it's a whole lot F***ing better then a sorry Til' Death; why dont you cancel that instead. The only bad thing was it was being played on a conflicting time but that was it.

Brad Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

This show was awesome..i liked the bag guy who was on Superbad...(who peed his pants eight years ago in the movie)lol
that actor is awesome......hope he finds something else.

SBB Mon, Oct 6, 2008 at 03:01 PM EST

I liked that damn show, too. They didn't even give them a chance to develop their characters or anything!!!!!!!!!!!!

PDS Thu, Oct 2, 2008 at 01:01 PM EST

F*** sake nd i was enjoying this show chez, nd it was gettin better nd better damm u fox b***

Angelica Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 01:51 PM EST

I acutually enjoy watching Niecy... she's funny... they just started her with "not so funny crowd" Maybe she will land another show.

Chloe Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

You know this show was actually getting good. I am so sad for Niecy, she deserves better than a flash in the pan TV show. I blame the writers, producers, the dumb asses that hired Jerry O'Connell and Fox for putting this on and then not giving it more than half a chance. These are the same idiots that are putting Moment of Truth bac on screens proving that these bastards have no soul. This is precisely why I stopped watching Fox.

I wish we could at least get to see the reworked Pilot, the first go round was crap. Niecy's a fighter, she deserves her own show and she'll get it. Next time it'll actually be on more that three weeks. *sigh*

bb Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 12:01 PM EST

The four main cast members are capable of being very funny, but this shows writing and direction were pitiful. I'm glad its cancelled. I also hope James Franco's little brother gets more work. He's a cutie.

Sun, Sep 28, 2008 at 01:10 AM EST

why dont you cancel other crappy shows and put Do Not Disturb back on, this show is really good, there are actually people who love it , like me

downtown diva Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 08:21 PM EST

Having read comments in reaction to the premature cancellation of Do Not Disturb, I know I'm not the only one who enjoyed it. I missed this week's episode and didn't realize the show was already at-risk for cancellation. Couldn't Fox have tried it in a different time slot and/or different night before axing it?

Effin Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 10:36 PM EST

Dude, I caught most of one episode and loved it...damnit

Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 06:28 PM EST

Sorry to hear that Do Not Disturb is leaving. It was a good show that just needed some fine tuning.

Bvoice85 Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

OMG! I just got into the show. I mean alof things are on TV that shouldnt be, but i think the two episodes on that i have seen were good. Niecy Nash is VERY GOOD in her roll...she made the show to me! I know she has some HATERS out there.

Joe Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 03:13 PM EST

Does this mean that Niecy Nash is going to be able to go back to "Reno 911". I'm hoping that it wasn't her character that was killed at the end of last season.

Lori Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 03:13 PM EST

I actually liked the episode I watched. It conflicts with other shows so it had a bad time for me.

TheCineManiac Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

I was only watching for Jesse Tyler Fergueson and Dave Francio. They were the only bearable part and it wasn't enough. But someone give them their own show(s) already. Or at least send Franco back to Greek.

Mooshki Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:28 AM EST

Damn, I wanted this show to be good.

Jason Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

There are other sitcoms: The Office, 30 Rock, How I Met Your Mother, Entourage, Big Bang Theory...

to bruno Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:12 AM EST

Yep! me too, I could have sworn it was going to be Knight Rider!
Talking cars in the 70-80's ok, now-not so much

blahblahblah Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

I thought the last show was funny...But yeah now Neicy Nash can go back to clean house and so can Jerry. LOL Nah Best wishes

Ceballos Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 09:10 AM EST

I'll give you that Niecy Nash was slumming, but not Jerry O'Connell...this show seemed like just the right level of work I'd expect from him (hello, "Kangaroo Jack"!)

lilkunta Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 08:20 AM EST

Im not surprised. The premis is stupid.
Niecy Nash's voice is sooo annoying.

I do feel bad 4 Jerry tho. He was so good on "Crossing Jordan" & he really does act well.

I feel bad 4 Jerry bc now that he isnt working he'll have 2 be home all the time 2 Rebecca & we all know how much of a bully she is.

snetblaze Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 08:03 AM EST

I like the idea of putting Terminator on Wednesday so it doesn't get killed on Monday.

cruzilla Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:51 AM EST

I admit I never watched Crossing Jordan or Sliders, but using the word "slumming" implies that he is more of an A-list actor than he actually is. That said, I agree that he should find better roles because I find him rather charming and he has a place in my heart from his roles in Stand by Me and Scream 2.

Travis Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 07:10 AM EST

HA HA! No surprise that this crappy show was cancelled. Let's just face it O'Connell is a terrible actor and has done nothing worthwhile mentioning. This jerk is so annoying and is so un-likeable as an actor.

Brent Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 06:29 AM EST

Matt, don't blame FOX for "Cavemen" - that was ABC's fault.

chris Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 04:35 AM EST

Time to show the episodes of Wonderfalls that were never aired.

bruno Fri, Sep 26, 2008 at 12:15 AM EST

dammnit. i had five bucks on knight rider.

Brendan Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 11:34 PM EST

I actually thought Do Not Disturb is way funnier than Til Death. I hope they'll keep selling the other ten episodes on iTunes.

erin Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 10:27 PM EST

now Niecy can do new episodes of Clean House...those fill in chicks just aren't cutting it!!

aa Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:13 PM EST

i actually kinda liked it.

Matt Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

Are there really 3 different Matt's on this thing?!

Yeah the final season of Arrested Development had horrendous ratings, but the first season had twice the numbers DND has...er had.

Zetii Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 06:45 PM EST

Although cruzilla doesn't seem to know O'Connell's background, he/she has a point. Maybe Jer should think about finding another drama. His successes on Crossing Jordan and Sliders were most successful and lasted elonger than the past two comedy gigs. Gotta thnk of the twins now (Ashley & Mary-Kate-O'Connell jokingly said they were named.)

jake Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:15 PM EST

Gary unmarried was funny and worst week is hilarious! As much as I like jerry oconnell, I could not get into do not disturb. It's sad when on another network like ABC, the adventures of old christine would be a huge hit because they could put it after dancing with the stars.

matt Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 05:01 PM EST

All the new sitcoms are pitiful. Sadly, Do Not Disturb is the best of the lot and that's not saying much. Gary Unmarried was unwatchable after about 10 minutes. Worst week was the worst of the new comedies. Once again tv will be left with Samantha Who and Two and a Half Men carrying the sitcom banner and even the Two and a Half Men premiere was a little slack this season.

dsfsdfsd Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:48 PM EST

They should replace both Wed 9:00 sitcoms with Terminator. That way they won't keep getting thrashed by ESPN's Monday Night Football.

t3hdow Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:34 PM EST

To Matt:
Yeah, but not by much. Arrested Development hit over the 4 million mark around cancellation time. At least with that, AD had enough critical acclaim to keep it afloat for two and a half seasons. I knew the commercials made Do Not Disturb look terrible, but when the creators themselves regretted making the show and apoligized for it, that takes abysmal quality into a whole another level.

Matt Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:30 PM EST

Well good thing Fox canceled shows like Arrested Development, Futurama, and Firefly! It needed to make room for these critically acclaimed and ratings hits like Do Not Disturb, 'Til Death and Cavemen!

3.4 million viewers? Refresh my memory, wasn't AD doing way better than that?

Matt Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:03 PM EST

This is really disappointing, i work at a hotel and I was hoping for a show that captured the hilarity of working for one. This show stunk. Working at a hotel is hilarious, there are so many funny situations that can be found.

Mallory Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 04:01 PM EST

Yeah, this show was awful. I thought Jerry O'Connell's last show, Carpoolers, was hilarious, and even though Do Not Disturb looked awful thought I'd give it a try but couldn't even make it through the first half hour. It was very poor writing and overacting on most parts. Ugh.

majigail Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 03:50 PM EST

Well, I guess that's 3 things in my DVR I can take out now...

cruzilla Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 03:45 PM EST

How is it that Jerry O'Connell in a bad tv show = slumming? What has he done that is any good, aside from a guest spot on Ugly Betty (and of course, Stand by Me, but that was a movie)?

amanda Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 03:34 PM EST

ahem... 9-10pm comedy block. Bones is on at 8. come on now. :o)
