'CSI: NY' Exclusive: Danny and Lindsay Are Expecting!

Categories: CSI: NY

Anna Belknap’s real-life pregnancy is turning into quite the bundle of joy for Danny-Lindsay fans: Not only is CSI: NY incorporating the baby twist into Lindsay’s story line, but producers have gone and made Danny the daddy!

“Lindsay will be pregnant,” reveals executive producer Pam Veasey. “And, clearly, Danny is the father.”

Feel free to kiss the messenger. Or shower him with gifts. Don’t be shy.

The bombshell will be dropped in the show’s 101st episode, tentatively scheduled to air on Nov. 26, but the fallout will be felt long thereafter. “We’re not going to be so typical about it,” Veasey adds. “They’re both happy about it, but it is unexpected.”

Big questions remain: Will D-L make things official prior to their son/daughter’s birth? How will Lindsay’s absence be explained when her portrayer takes off on maternity leave? How will this news impact the return of you-know-who (I’m talkin’ ’bout Rikki!)? My plan is to answer all of these questions (and more) in Ask Ausiello tomorrow provided you guys, well, ask them. Hurry up and submit your burning D-L Qs to ausielloscoop@ew.com by 5 p.m./EST today and then check AA for the scoop.

In the meantime, is a Danny-Lindsay pregnancy everything you had hoped for and more? Or is it too much too soon? Sound off below!

Being a DL fan (and not as naive as some would like to think), I know this will not make things ‘all better’, but I am freakin’ ecstatic about this!!!

  • Isabella

Honestly, if Anna Belknap weren’t pregnant, I would be annoyed that they were doing this storyline right now. Since she is, it makes sense to use it, and having Danny be the father seems obvious. They will have to explain the timeline a bit though, since as far as we know, they haven’t been together since Rueben died.

  • Chris

I am beyond excited for a DL baby, I’m sure the writers will handle it well. I’m expecting that it’s not going to be smooth sailing from here on out, but it is exciting to get to see the real problems that families would face while doing this job. It’s definitely an exciting and rejuvenating twist to the show, it will be good to see how Danny has to mature from this news rather than the self destructive man we saw last season.
And I’m thrilled that they aren’t going to be hiding Anna behind computers and file folders.
    Bring on season 5!!

  • Amybabe

Didn’t she already have a baby last season or a season ago? (In real life that they hid)

  • Lisa

First off, a big congrats to Anna and her husband. I am looking forward to this storyline, and although a child won’t solve the problems between Danny and Lindsay, he/she may help them become stronger, both as individuals and as a unit.

  • Lynn

Okay shift the program to day time and send CBS a box of soap suds!! I am finished with this show.

  • Jess

Wow. After the season we D-L fans had last season this is freaking awesome! I know angst goes hand-in-hand with drama, so I am expecting that. This story has potential, not only for D-L as a couple but as individual characters. I can’t wait!
Thank you so much for the news, you are on top of all scoops. Keep CSI:NY in your list.

  • Piper

Wouldn’t Lindsay’s absence on the show during Anna Belknap’s maternity leave be explained by… maternity leave?

  • Isabella

Amybabe–Yes, Anna did have a child a year and a half ago. This will be her second.

  • deniz

congrulations anna eric and their girl
I m so excited last season 4 were bad about dl but I hope season 5 will very good about dl , we will se dl baby awosome

  • Lexi

    Yay!~
It’s all I can say right now!

  • Mariella

    Congratulations to Anna and co.!
I am a huge D/L fan, although I would be more excited about this storyline if timelines were explained!

  • disappointed viewer

wow they’ve effectively ruined this show!
What a terrible way to handle the pregnancy of a moderately good actress. Why is it every time something happens with Lindsay/Anna the other parts end up suffering so much because of it? This is just another clear indicator that the mary-sue this character is cannot stand on her own.
I’ve been optimistic about hoping this show would clean itself up eventually since Belknap’s introduction but clearly that’s not the direction it’s going.
I really had the writers on NY pegged as better than this but I guess if really sappy and cliched writing is what people want then they can’t be expected to produce anything else. Too bad. This show really was something once.

  • Jennifer

Is this CSI or Y&R? This sounds like its going to ruin the whole season. Maybe even permanently ruin the show!

  • Rhonda

So, basically this is just catering to a pregnant actress. This storyline is ridiculous and I’m sure TPTB will totally screw it up. So Danny’s been sleeping with both Rikki and Lindsay. Throwing a baby into the mix is not gonna suddenly fix things. What’s the point in bringing Rikki back then? Oh wait, it wouldn’t be CSI:NY without more DL drama. This show IS turning into nothing more than a silly soap opera. I’ll be tuning in but not for DL. There’s much better storylines out there for the rest of the cast. And wouldn’t it make sense that they’d explain Lindsay’s absence on maternity leave?

  • Holly

First of all, Congratulations to Anna and Eric!
This could be very interesting and I hope the writers handle it well. After last season I lost a lot of faith in the writers’ ability to handle personal storylines, but I’m still holding out hope that they don’t turn this into a complete train wreck like the horribly offensive “Rueben” storyline.

  • Tom

This is a really exciting development, definitely a wonderful departure from the other CSIs. It will be interesting to see how they handle the new addition.

  • Jaime

    Thanks for the scoop Ausiello.
Get a grip. Its a television show. And considering this show has over 15 million viewers I doubt TPTB care if they lose a viewer or 3. The fact that people keep talking about is good enough for them to keep continuing with it.
And on the show turning soapy. Explain to me how the other woman i.e Rikki coming back pregnant storyline, wouldn’t have been ripped straight from an episode of Days Of our lives?

  • Lisa

*claps* Wonderfully said, Jaime. I agree with everything. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

  • Jessie

I’m hoping tptb take a considered approach to this storyline and don’t see it as more opportunity for angst and drama (although I doubt it). I’m really happy for Anna and her family and I think if handled properly there is an opportunity to develop both Danny and Lindsay as individual characters as well as together.
I do think it’s funny that people who have openly knocked D/L fans for criticising the ’soap opera’ nature of Rikki being pregnant are now singing the same tune re. Lindsay. Why not just be honest and say you prefer one character over another rather than trying to justify your opinion with a barage of criticism for the actor/character you don’t like? It’s all about preferences at the end of the day. And, I agree if people want to stop watching because of relationship drama then let them, that’s not the be all and end all of this show, in fact it’s a very small part of it all things considered.

  • PA0116

I love the choice of picture to go along with this news. Danny’s expression pretty much sums up my feelings about Lindsay and any offspring they will have. I think it also sums up what the viewers have been shown up to this point about how Danny feels about his baby mama.
If TPTB decide to forget S4 ever happened and just make Danny and Lindsay all happy and in love somebody might as well put out the call to Fonzie because this show will, without a doubt, be jumping the shark big time.

  • Jaime

Thanks for the kind words Lisa.
PA0116. Are you assuming “all” viewers feel the same way. The whole 15 million? Or just that portion that would rather see Danny with anyone else, as long as its not Lindsay.
And as far as Rikki goes.
Quoted from the Season 4 DVD.
Peter Lenkov “Danny’s guilt ulimately put a wedge between the Danny and Lindsay storyline”

  • Megan

I think it’s wonderful they are incorporating the pregnancy in to the storyline for Anna. At least they won’t do the awful cover up like they did the last time she was pregnant. I just hope the writer’s do this storyline justice, and answer the questions some of us have regarding the status of their relationship. This season is looking better all the time, considering how awful things were in season 4.

Personally, I’d kind of like the real bombshell to be that Mac or Flack is the father.

Ok, seriously, Ausiello, do you think you could find time to answer questions that fans have about OTHER characters on the show? Adam supposedly faces a life crisis this season, Hawkes has at least a little something coming up, and I for one am curious about whether or not Reed might re-appear on the show (and I know that I at least have sent questions about all three characters to you). And yet here we are, still going on and ON about Danny and Lindsay. Pitchfork-wielding shippers or not, could you perhaps acknowledge that there are OTHER characters worth talking about?
    -
For the record, I won’t stop watching because the other characters and actors are all worth tuning in for. However, that doesn’t stop this all from sounding like a pretty piss-poor idea.
    -
I’m happy for Anna having a baby, but Danny and Lindsay having a kid? Oh boy – PTB, you got a lot of explaining to do before I’ll buy that as even the slightest bit realistic.

  • Lisa

I agree Jessie, and I find it quite ironic how those who ship DR wanted a child, yet claim a DL child is soapish. Irony at its best.
Looks like TPTB finally have their heads on straight and realize that DR was nothing more than an affair. I look forward to how this will play out, and although I know it won’t be all rainbows and butterflies, I think it will be beneficial in the end.

  • Erin

Thanks so much for the news Ausiello!!
Even though I am a loyal DL shipper I still am a little unsure about this storyline but I think it also has the potential to be great.
I’m so happy for Anna though! Congrats to her!

  • Faylinn

Also, how is it ‘clear’ that Danny is the father? I’m not denying that he will be, but the implication that there’s no way Lindsay could have been in a relationship with anybody else (when Danny obviously was) is kind of…I don’t want to say insulting, but kind of stupid. She said she wanted to move on, so she had every right to be with someone else, but – what? – she’s to pure to have had sex with a guy other than her Tru Luff? Danny’s sperm are the only ones capable of impregnating her?
    -
Sorry, that just kind of rubbed me wrong.
    -
As for the back and forth sniping – who the hell cares? I’ve watched this show from the beginning, and I’ve had a problem with the D/L storyline since it started. It may not stop me from watching the show, but I’ll feel free to form any opinion I damn well choose about it – and post it online if I wish. Liking the show doesn’t require me to like everything. For that matter, opinions are usually more complex than what little gets posted here as a comment.
