Scoop: 'Lost' Finds New Season 5 Blood!

Aug 7, 2008, 11:23 AM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories:

Lostcast_l Production on Lost's fifth season gets underway in 12 days, so that can only mean one thing: Fresh intel is starting to pour in!

Sources confirm that Team Darlton is looking to introduce two new characters this season – and they're both as mysterious as they are lethal. They're also coming in as recurring players with an option to become series regulars in season 6.

First up is Caesar, a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: He's as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them. He also has a dark past, but, c'mon, that much was a given.

The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who's also dangerous as all get out. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.

What does it all mean?! Don't ask me, ask Jeff Jensen! Better yet, I will:

"Caesar, eh? My mind immediately links to Planet of the Apes. Caesar was the primate that led his fellow apes in a revolt against their human slavers. So... remember when Ben made that cryptic reference last season to an Other that preceded him in leadership? The “Hostile” who ordered the gassing of the Dharma Initiative, a.k.a. “The Purge”? Assuming that dude ain’t Jacob, could he be this “Caesar”? As for Ilanna, she sounds exactly like the kind of lethal lady Sayid would fall for. So I’m wondering if the dashing Iraqi is due for a new love interest, yet another lady whose true motivations will be in question."

Um... my thoughts exactly! Thanks, Jeff!

Casting for both roles is just now getting started, so feel free to use the comments section below to state your case for a particular actor/actress. Woo-hoo! Lost (scoop) is back!

As for theory - you have to find it yourself. As for practice - maybe I could give some help. I found an interesting program on one of the thematic forum recently. It searches for combination automatically. Nice one, though poor in interface.
Program is based on Martingale system with the changed algorithm. It`s based on searching and waiting a series of results («red or black» usually). But this one I got is for «head or tail».
There were discussions «pro and against» this soft, but I downloaded it and explored for about half an hour and left it in automatic mode till next evening. What I found in the morning was 250WM.
But use it wisely, admins in casinos do not welcome these things.

stacy kiebler for ceaser

Jack Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 08:01 AM EST

I'm back baby!

Nancy Sun, Sep 14, 2008 at 01:13 AM EST

Hey! Y'all are missing the boat big time!! Sarah Palin!! Yeah?? She's charming and dangerous too. Perfect for the role. All kidding aside, I'm jonesing for Lost. I really don't care who they decide on, just bring it back....

Jacob Milo Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 10:58 PM EST

Peewee Herman would make a great Ceaser.

MrEko99999 Fri, Sep 5, 2008 at 10:19 AM EST

Personally, I think Gerard Butler would make a perfect Caesar.

Angie Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 01:10 PM EST

Please Cole, give me a break! I don't really care about who will play the parts but I swear to God, if they cast Sarah Michelle Gellar, I will never watch the show again. She can't even act! She sucks to much.

John Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 11:21 AM EST

Definitely, Asia Argento for Ilana. Sexy and dangerous.

Sat, Aug 23, 2008 at 12:39 AM EST

morgan freeman

jerem0737 Thu, Aug 21, 2008 at 08:24 AM EST

Christopher Eccleston for Caesar. He's just amazing in Doctor Who.
I'm a big fan of David Anders and Zachary Quinto, too... But I think they're busy enough with Heroes.

And For Ilanna... As an european character, why not the french actress Marion Cotillard?

Amy Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 11:38 PM EST

Me!!!! :-)

I would love to be a part on this show, particularly in the vein of Benjamin Linus!

cndwelch Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 11:19 PM EST

Alex O'Laughlin. Please - I don't care what part he plays, I just want to look at him and Sawyer side by side, shirtless. I would die and go to heaven.

Jenny Lane Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

The store clerk who also played the chicken man in Season 2 ? That would be Raj Bose, the actor from Hawaii. His eyes are certainly mysterious looking.

M. John Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 11:33 PM EST

Please bring back the store clerk / chicken man from Season 2. The guy who sold the winning lotto ticket to Hurley. He looked mysterious and could answer questions about Hurley's past.

Lou Wed, Aug 13, 2008 at 07:02 AM EST

WENTWORTH MILLER, We could do with another good looking male on the island!!

MoonlightVampire Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 11:18 PM EST

Alex O'Loughlin should play a character on lost, Josh Halloway's Sawyer needs some sexy compatiton.

Cole Tue, Aug 12, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

I wish they would cast Sarah Michelle Gellar as Illana. I've been saying for four years now that she would rule on "Lost", not to mention it would be cool for all us Drew Goddard and David Fury fans.

Or Jennifer Garner. I heard she was supposed to be on the show before, and I always kinda thought she should've played Mikhail. Like when I watch him, I picture her with an eye patch.

I have my own fun.

Martin Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 03:57 PM EST

Scott Patterson! That's whom I meant for Caesar. And how funny would it be that S.C., who played Luke and worked with a Caesar at Luke's Diner, would come back to the tube, after Aliens in America, to play a Caesar?
No? Just funny for me?

Lisa Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 03:02 PM EST

Perfect casting for Caesar? Peter Wingfield. Probably best known as Methos in Highlander, and an absolute ace at playing ambiguously charming and dangerous.

Happy Hour Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 02:20 PM EST

how about Fairuza Balk? I always thought she was awesome...have not idea where she has been. But, she could easily scare the crap out of me.

Donovan Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

Have they got tired of hootching out Kate and Julia? Julia's hair kept getting blonder and her boobs bigger with each passing episode. I hope Lost doesn't go the route of so many others where they mess up a good thing by trying to MTV it out.

Canal175 Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 12:56 PM EST

Alex O'Loughlin.....yaaa baby

Jill Mon, Aug 11, 2008 at 09:03 AM EST

Richard Armitage from Robin Hood for Ceasar. So evil!

marcel connor Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

Justin Long and kestie Morassi both have creepy piercing stares.

marcel connor Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 05:25 PM EST

Justin Long and kestie Morassi both have creepy piercing stares.

marcel connor Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

Kestie Morassi should play the new femae role. Great yung actress, also not too well known, piercing stare, makes fo a great villan or a mysterious person. As for Ceasar, i would suggest Justin Long or someone similar in appearance, would work well as a creepy baddie. Although Long was in comedies, i would like to see him play a dark character.

Juan Sun, Aug 10, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

Jessica Collins to play Ilanna.

She is a great actress, gorgeous, who speaks fluent french, is really good at acting and is a fresh and good locking face.

My vote goes for Jessica Collins.

I hope they don´t cast any more blonde women..

danny Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 06:22 PM EST

can someone please tell me when season 5 comes out i have got a hard on for this program expecially kate she is FIT!!

shannon Sat, Aug 9, 2008 at 06:41 AM EST

i agree with either nia long or franka potente( bourne movies and run lola run) and totally random stuff kevin durand(keamy) was in austin powers 2 as the assasin working with robyn swallows in club scene intro felicty shagwell

Grace Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 10:41 PM EST

How about Olivia Wilde for the female role???? She'd be great in that role AND it would get her off of HOUSE!!!

CJ Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 05:16 PM EST

Ilanna- I think casting Famke Janssen would be perfect...she needs to return to TV. She might be a little too big of a name to accept a recurring role, but who knows

Alyssa Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

Michael Vartan would be amazing for Caesar.

Lois Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

Katee Sackoff for Llana! She's genius...

Mart Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 12:40 PM EST

OMG! Suddenly, I have this terrible feeling! What, if Nikki & Paolo reincarnated as llanna & Ceasar ???

TanziTwo Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 12:39 PM EST

Caesar (colleague of Mr. Avellino) has to be "The Economist".
durrr

WOMO Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 12:12 PM EST

How about Regina King or Nia Long as Llana? I like the thought of Alexis Denisoff as Ceasar. Here's a way out there thought....how about Matthew Broderick as Ceasar? He always plays good but I'll bet he plays evil better!! :o)

henry Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 11:52 AM EST

kristen bell
jason dohring

bakerist Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 11:34 AM EST

Amy Acker would be ace!

Diamondgirl Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 11:10 AM EST

Garner is too big a name. I would say Famke Janssen would be PERFECT, but I question whether she ia also too big a name now. My only hope is that the show keeps with the style of the characters so far, and doesn't give us two over-waxed catalogue models like Nikki & Paolo.

My Opinion Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:51 AM EST

Make Ilanna Asian and have Lucy Liu go in there.

David Anders is handsome and I can see him go at it.

Mart Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:51 AM EST

If llana is lethal/dangerous I don't think Eva Green is ok for the job. She's just beautiful. Was great as a Bond-Girl, but at the end of the film when we discovered she's not the good guy, wasn't a good evil-woman enough. Famke J. fits better. And Ceasar: "a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45": That's Gary Oldman! And I would love to see him on the island.

K Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:47 AM EST

I nominate Alex O'Loughlin for the new character - I need my weekly fix....

Greg Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 09:35 AM EST

Caesar - Kevin McKidd (of Rome, Journeyman fame)
Illana - Asia Argento

Steff Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 08:24 AM EST

How about Famke Janssen (X-Men) for the female role? She would be fabulous.

sea frog Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 08:21 AM EST

PK, when Ben moved the donkey wheel the island vanished. Everyone on the helicopter no longer could see it. It went somewhere. Maybe to the future, or past, where it no longer exists. Who knows. As for the new characters two words, Miley Cyrus. She's everywhere else. There is nothing she can't do. She could play both roles easily.

Kate Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 07:19 AM EST

Michael Vartan would be a great choice- I saw him in an indie flick "Jolene" at the Seattle Film Festival, where he played a wife-beater- quite the departure for him, showing that he's more than a pretty face (and certainly not dull).

Jennifer Garner is far too manly for Sayid. And let's face it, there's a reason she couldn't carry Alias alone in the fifth season (or ever raise the show to true hit status)- she's massively overhyped.

But Charisma Carpenter would be FANTASTIC!

Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 07:14 AM EST

I like the James Marsters idea, but how about Gary Oldman? And I'm just gonna throw it out there that Michael Vartan is boring.

Though, on a similar note, Jennifer Garner???? That would be perfect! Plus, she should totally make out with Sayid. Also, Amanda Seyfried is cool now, and psychic boobs could come in handy.

RobC Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 06:35 AM EST

Caeser: Alexis Denisof, "Angel"
Ilanna: Eva Green, "Casino Royale"

Camille Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 04:30 AM EST

"The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female"
What is that supposed to mean, European? Is she from Great Britain or Poland?! Europe is not a country you know.
Anyway, interesting though. Can't wait to see it :)

claire Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 03:13 AM EST

Ilanna alexis bledel
Caesar james marsters

claire Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 03:10 AM EST

Caesar : james marsters
Ilanna : alexis bledel

Doctor OPREO Fri, Aug 8, 2008 at 01:55 AM EST

Please blow up the island and all it's inhabitants allready!
This show is about as exciting as desperate house hags!
Hey has anbody seen this Great Show called Oprah! It's about this Super Rich Super SuperFat Black Woman and everthing she likes, it's called OPRAH. When not stroking her ego amd greatness she runs some episodes about dysfunctional white folks and all their flaws. And all her experts are different shades of black, except for Dr. Oz What couldn't she find a black doctor willing to surf around human rectums? She obviously has some sort of fixation with her name as though there is underlying issues concerning constant reasurrance of her Greatness.

CRC Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:32 PM EST

I agree with Amy -- age Ilanna a few years and cast Lena Olin!

Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 09:03 PM EST

PK, you are classy (that sounds sarcastic but is meant sincerely).

Miss B Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

Christopher Eccleston or James Purefoy fron Ceasar and Mia Maestro or Kerry Condon for Ilana.

Amy Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

Illana sounds like Irina Derevko, and I miss my SpyMommy, so please ask Team Darlton to age Illana a few decades and start wooing Lena Olin.

ann Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 07:06 PM EST

James Marsters for Caesar

Mia Maestro for Ilana

Nollat Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 06:29 PM EST

I vote for Keith Hamilton Cobb. His character on Andromeda was very smart and very dangerous. He could also be very sexy and charming.

wayfinder Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

how about Ceasar Milan as Ceasar. He needs to get to the island to train Vincent. sorry i mean "rehabilitate" Vincent, he "trains" people

Joey Jo Jo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 05:50 PM EST

Am I alone in thinking Mike Ausiello looks like Eddie Munster? You're so cute I want to give you a noogie. So glad Lost is back, but they'll lose me if they hack up the season the way they did for the last couple of seasons. I realize the last time was because of the strike, but they don't have that excuse anymore. Over the summer I discovered On-Demand programming and have barely watched any network shows. If Lost breaks up the season like that again, I'll continue to enjoy more On-Demand.

PK Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 05:47 PM EST

No offense taken. I understanding why some people would assume that "move the island" meant 'moving to a different part of the world.' But that assumption is incorrect.

When Ben turned the frozen donkey wheel, the island 'moved' forward (or backwards) in time.
And Yes, it will reappear in the exact same location.
If I am wrong, I'll eat a white dog turd (Step Brothers ref LOL).

Initially, I thought they probably moved it forward in time (time moves slower on the island and turning the wheel synced up island time w/outside-world time).
But my new theory is that they moved the island backwards in time. How else does Farraday interact w/Dr Candle and warn him of events that will happen in the future? (See new Dharam-esque video from Comicon)

Cate Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:49 PM EST

Caesar: Callum Keith Rennie (Leoben from Battlestar Galactica).

Ilanna: Asia Argento.

PK needs a time-travel lesson Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:47 PM EST

If they just moved the island back in time, as you say, and not physically...wouldn't it be in the exact same place?!?!? why would it disapper?!? If someone sent the United States back in time, where would it go? Nowhere. It would still sit where it sits. lmao, seriously. People need to think before they come up with stupid crazy theories.

PK Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:32 PM EST

Also the reason why 'the person who turns the wheel' is banished, because they don't want the future Ben to return (to what is now island circa-1972) and interact with his kid self.

Oh yeah, also wanted to acknowledge that Widmore has in fact lived on the island before. And possibly had to turn the wheel and get the boot too.

Juanita Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:31 PM EST

I just hope it's someone we haven't seen before. Michael Vartan's face is too familiar. It needs to be people with fresh faces so we don't relate them to characters they've played before. Lost isn't the show for recycled TV actors...unless it's been forever since they've been on TV.

PK Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:30 PM EST

This comment by Laura K was spot-on:

""Well, I think Locke was the one who ordered the Purge, personally. The comment from Darlton that they would be experimenting with a different storytelling method that couldn't really be called a flashback made me think time travel. So I'm thinking maybe Locke will travel in time and become an Other.""

When Ben "moved" the island, he moved it in time; not physical location. In other words, he moved the island backwards in time by 30 years. So all of the sudden, the island will be crawling with original Dharma peeps again. The remaining survivors (Sawyer, Juliette, etc) will have to hide out from the Dharmas and assimilate with the other others (AKA the "hostiles"). It's just one big continuous loop in time that is being played out over-and-over again.
We will see Alpert approach kid Ben and discover that Locke is the one who ordered the purge.

subscriber almost through Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:12 PM EST

i'm so sick of this NON news. gd!

Wojo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 04:07 PM EST

Lop, if the misuse of either version of "underway" really bothers you that much, maybe you should stop reading everything ever written by other people. I don't know that I've ever seen a more nit-picky correction of diction. Besides, if you check a dictionary, you can use either spelling for both the adjective and the adverb.

As for the actual topic, Famke Janssen would be pretty cool. And I'll go with Idris Elba from "The Wire" for the male role.

sonojon Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 03:40 PM EST

casting Caesar: How about another Rome alumni in James Purefoy? He can project charming and lethality in a single sentence...

Snarf Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:52 PM EST

Caesar - Ray Stevenson (ironic casting since he was in Rome)
Ilanna - Amy Acker (who can play dangerous quite well Angel, Alias)
Thoughts?

pm Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:38 PM EST

Lost will be airing on SciFi channel starting from the beginning episode. If you (JohnK0) are really interested in it, that may be a way you don't have to rent it to see it. Check the SciFi channel website for scheduling.

How about Eva Green for Ilanna? Or Mia Maestro?

Mandy Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:14 PM EST

Micheal Vartan would be an excellent Ceasar. Famke Janssen or Franka Potente would be excellent for the female role.

secretagentman Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:12 PM EST

What a scoop!! That is brand new information!

neillfilm Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:11 PM EST

JohnKo!!!!!! GO AWAY!!!! If you haven't watched the show yet, you aren't going to get it. It's called Netflix. Rent them, and we will see you in a few months.

JohnKo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

So the passengers were un/intentionally? introduced to a Dharma/Darpa? cloaking experiment? What is the mission of the experiment?

neillfilm Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

Josh, are you really trying to get cast by commenting on a post online? Get a better agent.

Joseph Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

Llana-Angeline Jolie
Caesar-Nicolas Cage
Perfect

neillfilm Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:56 PM EST

I love that Doc's first instinct is Planet of the Apes. Caesar? How about the Roman general that took control of the kingdom and wouldn't let it go?

That fits in nicely with the others and every other aspect of the island.

'roo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:55 PM EST

JohnKo: A) Hurley and the rest have been on the island for only about 70 days. B) (Mild Spoiler) The Dharma Initiative has been supplying the island with food the whole time, so no one is going hungry in any way.

lop Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

To the editors of EW, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, et al.:

"Underway" is an adjective. "Under way," which is what you're trying to say, is the adverb. Learn the difference.

Hurley'sHead Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

Quick Synopsis: So, there was this plane crash. Yada, yada, yada, then a guy, who for a time we thought was another guy, who also has tons of passports so he can be tons of other guys, turns a 'frozen donkey wheel' and the island disappears. There I think that explains it.

Hurley'sHead Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:39 PM EST

JohnKo: Ummmmmm.....Where to start...? Anybody help Johnko out? I suggest go to Lostpedia and read every article. You'll probably be caught up by January.

JohnKo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

Sorry Dude, I watch PBS mainly, you know, boring, not exciting like Lost. It looks good though I've never watched the show but I'm curious...can someone explain it to me? I'm familiar with scifi classics so I'm able to suspend disbelief.

Josh Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

I NEEEEED to be on "Lost"! I am an actor, I've played evil (serial killer) before. Tell them to cast me, Josh Davidson... I've been to Hawaii, I love it there, no island fever for me!

I'll be waiting for my phone call...

Josh

Hurley'sHead Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:22 PM EST

How about Dean Winters for the male role? I enjoyed him in Oz...

jbdean Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:18 PM EST

Wally, I'm with you! Enough characters already! And there are some from the freighter that we may never see again (like Frank ... I love Jeff Fahey and really hoped to see more of him). It's going to be hard enough getting screen time for Desmond, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Sun ... man no more already!

bunny8 Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:15 PM EST

Hey, Michael- Can you ring Jensen up and ask him where our friggin' Comic Con report is? Charles is dead on right- the names in casting calls are always fake so there is no use trying to glean meaning from them.

jbdean Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

JohnKo: Years? Are you talking about Hurley (Jorge Garcia)? Dude, they've only been on the island like 90 days when they got rescued. Are you watchin' the same show the rest of us are?

Amanda B. Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:09 PM EST

A leap way into the future? Now that blows my mind!

Stacey Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:07 PM EST

JohnKo It's only been months since they landed on the island not years, therefore Hurley's weight isnt really that big of an issue

Kati Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

Caesar? Alec Newman in one. Ilanna? Franka Potente would be perfect.

JohnKo Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:54 PM EST

How can an overweight character continue for be overweight for years in this situation? Or are big bones a factor?

Snsetblaze Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:53 PM EST

I like the Famke Janssen suggestion though she is probably a bit older than mid 30s.

beachpup Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

Or Katie Sackhoff.

Wally Thu, Aug 7, 2008 at 12:43 PM EST

Lost DOESN'T NEED any more actors or actresses! Enough already. They have enough cast members fighting for screen time.
