Exclusive: Bell, Thomas Orbit 'Veronica Mars' Movie

203551__veronica_l_2 Yeah, yeah, okay, so it would've been kinda cool to be in Beijing last week when Michael Phelps won his record-shattering eighth gold medal. But it would've been even cooler to have had a ringside seat in Rob Thomas' office instead: At around the same time the man from Atlantis was making the splash heard 'round the world, the creator of Veronica Mars was sitting down with his beloved, lamented series' star, Kristen Bell, to discuss bringing the cult hit to the big screen.

Seriously.

The impromptu powwow took place last week in the offices of Thomas' Hollywood-based production company, which just so happens to be located on the same lot where Bell is shooting Heroes. "Kristen and I ran into each other, and we did discuss a Veronica movie," confirms Thomas, who says he has also had "a few conversations" with Mars executive producer Joel Silver.

"It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots on my plate," adds Thomas, referring to his two ABC projects, a reworking of his '90s dramedy Cupid and an adaptation of the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune. "But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority."

For her part, Bell considers it a "major compliment" that people are still interested in Mars. "[Fans] still ask me all the time if the show's coming back. Emotionally, I don't want to think about Veronica Mars every day because it really does make me sad."

Regarding her recent chat with Thomas about a Mars feature, the star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, perhaps not wanting to jinx things, flashes a Cheshire cat grin and says, "We'll see."

Easily one of the best shows of all time in my humble opinion, Veronica deserved to go out in a better way than it did. Too much left up in the air! I can deal with no buffy movie (in my opinion, the blasphemy of the Kuzuis doesn't even count) and no gilmore girls movie as they both had a good ending, and there was a degree of closure for fans of those shows. But Veronica Mars not so. Oh and I'm putting in a vote for bringing back the Piz, controversial I know, but I always liked him.

I, like MANY onther fans, have just finished watching the Veronica Mars season 3 finale and I am very unsatisfied with the ending. I am not asking to renew the series, but please end this great show..the right way!

I just finished the Season 3 finale. Wow. That is just so unfair to end it there, WB!
Now that I've learned Rob Thomas already pitched the movie, the stars are in, the fans are (to put it mildly) anxiously waiting, WHAT ARE THEY WAITING FOR? It's one of the greatest shows out there (and I don't say that a lot).
In my opinion, the least they could have done is actually renewing it for Season 4. At least. The end was sort of satisfying, going to the core of the show and highlighting the lengths Keith and Logan would go to for our driven, strong-willed, and apparently holds-no-boundaries PI, Veronica. That ending to my was symbolic and AMAZING. Yet, for a series finale there are TONS of loose ends. The most stunning conspiracy was just revealed, and it ain't no little thing! So after all this rant, my point is GREENLIGHT THE DARN MOVIE!
If it were me, I'd be immensely honored to have this option. Such a great show and I'm glad of the passion's still there. So correct this injustice WB!

Plus the ending of season 3 was left open! There was no conclusion at all because I doubt the writers thought it would be cancelled. WE NEED CLOSURE!

Please please please pull through on a Veronica Mars movie!!! There's been way too much disappointment regarding tv-series-coming-back-as-movies. Gilmore Girls was particularly devastating. Don't even get me started on the Whedon-less Buffy movie (hello blasphemy?!) VM was an excellent show. It would be great for it to be reincarnated on the Big Screen. Especially if it retained Kristen Bell. She was great as Veronica and die-hard fans would really appreciate her return as the tiny blonde detective. I did a lot of campaigning to get VM back for a fourth season (including a letter to CW). It would be great if it was not all in vain!!

Veronica Mars was the best series I've ever watched. I could watch the 3 seasons over and over again and the only thing I would get sick of is the fact that I dont know what happens to Logan after the series finale. It truely kills me. A movie that had explanation to that would be IDEAL. I think Kristen Bell is awesome and I hope she would help us crazy fans out by putting all of our freaking questions to rest!!!! Truely i just want to see Jason Dohring again as Logan. Or just as anything. I love him. I would buy 1000 tickets to any movie about Veronica Mars. I would just hope for it to include some of the old cast. I dont know, maybe we are all just dreaming and this movie is just NOT going to happen. But I support it being made and I wish more people new about it, because no one could dislike this show!!!

I hated when they cancelled the Veronica Mars series, i think the couldt make it continue so much more. But if they make a VM movie im there, wont even think about it just pay and go see it. I really hope they make the movie, and i hope they gets Weevil and duncan in it somehow. PEACE

Hello to everyone who is involved in making this movie a reality! first, thank you for the wonderfulness that it veronica mars. the series was one of the best shows EVER to be on television. i did not watch it when it was first on, but have since fallen in LoVe with the series, as well as all the characters. this show offers so much to the viewers, and i wish with all my heart that it gains the following it deserves. i am hoping with all hope that this movie happens. unfortunately, the series ended with out a proper send off. the creators, actors, and fans deserve a proper ending to this show, and i hope we all get it!! thank you rob thomas for ur creativity in making this show. i am so excited to see what you have up ur sleeve for this movie, whatever it is i am sure it will be great! (btw, you better re-unite veronica and logan!!) if for some unfortunate reason the movie does not work, i hope that u do something like a strait to dvd release, or somethings so fans can have closure!

I hope the movie comes to fruition because I still miss the show. Never was I more disappointed by the loss of a show than I was by Veronica Mars. So much so that for the first time, I took the time to email the network to tell them what a stupid, stupid mistake I thought they were making. Veronica Mars was an incredibly popular and FUNNY show and it was just beyond my comprehension as to why they would cancel the series. I let them know that I would be boycotting the network until they got smart enough to bring the show back. It's too bad that none of the other networks saw the stupidity of their move and picked up the show themselves. They, no doubt, would have picked up a ton of faithful viewers.

I would really love to see a Veronica Mars movie I think by far it's one of the best shows that i've ever watched in a long time the blunt humor was the best and i was always telling people how good it was...i'd really like for the show to make a come back to tv ...show like arrested development and scrubs were able to make comebacks after being cancelled i dont see why vm couldnt do the same...as far as the last season i dont think it was a bad season..it hadnt really got underway before they told us it was cancelled so it just ended with alot of unanswered question the biggest being why kendall casablancas got killed and what really happend...ponder the thought

Omg!! You HAVE to bring back Veronica Mars!! =) it was the BEST show I've ever watched! No show will ever compare to how good VM was! =) it ended horribly! i know people don't really see this but i want to see veronica and weevils relationship develop his cute crush on her needs to become more.....
and for others who want the whole veronica and Logan to work out that would help because man would that make him jealous...
but still veronica and weevil togather would be awesome with all their cute remarks towards each other especially my favorite little quote "weevil love you long time" from the first episode and when the bus went off the cliff where he drove off then turned around and came back for her.

Just finished season 1.... I didn't realize how good network tv could be! Tv is almost like heavyweight boxing -- a show has an average shelf life of one or two seasons, there are tons of payola-type setups, and drugs ruin a few careers (except in tv's case, I'm talking about the intake of the network execs). Every once in a while, a transcendent player comes along. Veronica Mars is the Muhammad Ali of the small screen.
