Live Press Tour Diary: CBS Day One

Jul 18, 2008, 12:06 PM | by Michael Ausiello

Moonlight_l

8:58 am: You'll never guess what greeted me this morning in the International Ballroom Lobby of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. A huge vat of fluffy egg whites! My prayers have been answered! Just for this, I may start watching The Unit.

Executive Session
The Player:
Nina Tassler, President, CBS Entertainment. Or as she's more commonly referred, the evil woman who killed Moonlight.

9:12 am: In her opening remarks, Tassler addresses William Petersen's looming CSI departure. She's confident that CSI will prove "resilient," much like Criminal Minds did in the wake of Mandy Patinkin's exit.

9:15 am: Tassler wishes Swingtown's ratings were better, but "we're behind the show," she insists. To wit, the entire cast is expected at tonight's CBS Stars Party. (Post your Qs in the comments section below!)

9:22 am: More info about the new character CSI is introducing with the funky DNA: The dude has the serial killer gene, Tassler reveals.

9:27 am: The new Jay Mohr sitcom Gary Unmarried isn't paneling today because Mohr is halfway around the world renewing his wedding vows. Another likely factor: It blows!

9:29 am: Britney Spears did not save How I Met Your Mother, Tassler insists. "[The show] was never in danger," she adds. "We just took a while to (announce its renewal)."

9:30 am: Cover your eyes, Moonlight fans. Tassler downplays the fan outcry in the wake of the show's cancellation, maintaining that most of the feedback was "actor-centric." (Huh?) She also says she's not getting a lot of mail and doesn't regret the decision.

9:32 am: The rest of the CSI cast has inked new deals, Tassler reports.

9:35 am: Sarah Chalke will return to HIMYM for "multiple episodes," but Tassler doesn't think she's the mother.

CBS News Presentation
The Players (via satellite):
Katie Couric, Bob Schieffer, Jeff Greenfield and CBS News president Sean McManus.

10:04 am: Couric says "it's befuddling to me the amount of attention I receive" in the press. "But," she continues, "I think (the hoopla) has died down."

10:08 am: Schieffer's just gained some serious cool points by proclaiming that "Jon Stewart is my inspiration." All kidding aside, he says he's a fan of Stewart and likens him to an "editorial cartoonist."

10:09 am: "We have no plans to part company anytime soon," Couric says of rumors that she'll quit shortly after the election. "I'm very committed to the people here and very committed to the product." Call me naive, but I believe her.

10:29 am: Lots of talk about a topic I know very little about: The Lara Logan scandal. Can someone please give me the Cliffs Notes version in the comments section?

Worst Week Panel
The Players:
Kyle Bornheimer, Erinn Hayes, Nancy Lenehan, Kurtwood Smith and exec producers Matt Tarses and Jimmy Mulville.

11:21 am: The single-camera comedy, based on the British series The Worst Week of My Life, is a cross between Meet the Parents and, well, Meet the Fockers. It's also the funniest pilot I've seen so far. This Bornheimer guy is a man on the verge of becoming a big fat TV star.

11:23 am: EP Mulville describes the preimise thusly: "It's about a guy who invites bad karma into his life and doesn't know which way to dig himself out of the hole." Coincidentally, that's also the logline for the long-gestating Andy Dick biopic.

11:34 am: Smith (aka the dad from That '70s Show) says his Worst Week character "has much more of an acid wit" than his '70s alter ego, Red.

11:39 am: FYI: I've officially checked out of this session and am now focusing all of my energy on lunch.

The Eleventh Hour Panel
The Players:
Rufus Sewell and exec producers Cyrus Voris and Ethan Reiff.

12:03 pm: A reporter kicks things off by asking the producers, WTF is this show about? (It's a valid question since no one has seen a pilot.) Reiff explains that Sewell's character is an FBI agent who investigates "crimes and crises of a scientific or technological nature." Oh, I get it now. Huh?

12:08 pm: "It's a science fact show," Reiff further clarifies, "not a science fiction show." Oh, I get it now. Huh?

12:09 pm: Nineteen minutes 'til lunch!

12:19 pm: Eleven minutes 'til lunch!

12:22 pm: A former colleague of mine at TV Guide offers to fake a seizure to bring this session to an early end. I tell him to save that little stunt for the Inside Edition panel tomorrow. He agrees.

12:28 pm: Future episodes will tackle both "science crime" and "science crises." Oh, I get it now. Huh?

12:32 pm: There's the lunch bell! Woo-hoo!

The Mentalist Panel
The Players:
Simon Baker and exec producer Bruno Heller

2:03 pm: Take Life, throw in a dash of Psych, mix in some Crossing Over with John Edward and you've got The Mentalist.

2:08 pm: Regarding the Psych comparison, Heller says the two shows are very different -- primarily because Baker's character isn't pretending to be anything he isn't. He adds that The Mentalist is "much more like Sherlock Holmes than (Psych)."

2:16 pm: Robin Tunney isn't at today's session because A) she was fired, B) she quit to reprise her role of Veronica Donovan on Prison Break, or C) she couldn't get away from the set. Answer TK.

2:32 pm: The answer is C.

The Ex List Panel
The Players:
Elizabeth Reaser, Rachel Boston, Adam Rothenberg, Alexandra Breckenridge, Amir Talai and exec producer Diane "Veronica Mars" Ruggiero. (Click here to watch a preview.)

2:53 pm: Reaser seems annoyed by one reporter's suggestion that her character is a slut. "Who's to say what makes someone a slut?" she fires back.

2:56 pm: A reporter reads my mind when he starts off his question with this announcement: "I've never found (Ex List guest star) Eric Balfour to be intentionally funny, but I really liked him in this." It's true, he's both charming and funny.

2:59 pm: "I don't feel that closely identified with her," Reaser says in response to a Q about whether viewers will have difficulty seeing her as anyone other than her Grey's alter ego, Ava. "That was a special job in a long line of special jobs." Will she be back this season? "They didn't kill her," she points out, "but I don't think I'm going to be available."

3:15 pm: And that's a wrap! I've got the CBS Stars party this evening (post your Qs below), and then I'll be back here at the crack of dawn (PST) for The CW! Here's a little something to whet your appetites: Duh'nuhnuhnuh, Duh'nuhnuhnuh -- swoosh swoosh.

BRING MOONLIGHT BACK!!! I NEED IT!!

Fri, Aug 1, 2008 at 01:45 PM EST

whoever decided to discontinue moonlight was a real idiot. Finally CBS has a live one and they get rid of it ...to put some stupid swingtime show who cares about that everyday crap. give us something we can sink out teeth into to...

jackie Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 06:37 PM EST

I hope that Nina is not behind Swingtown like she was MOONLIGHT or else that show is doomed. Moonlight is a great show, great actors and an addicting storyline. I really wish CBS and Nina would give the show a chance at a second season. Its a win , win situation. With Twilight coming out they would have been ahead of the game. It insults me that she would think that I would dedicate my time to a tv show just for one person, or one person's looks. The whole cast are great together. Makes Friday nights very sad. Good thing I still have Monk.

Strepsi Sun, Jul 27, 2008 at 02:50 AM EST

TO MICHAEL RE: "maintaining that most of the feedback was "actor-centric." (Huh?) " Meaning: We wanted to watch Alex, no matter how sh*tty the show he was in. I felt the same way about NEW AMSTERDAM. Can she make a show with just those two guys? Involving Speedos? USE YOUR CONNECTIONS MICHAEL!

SHARIEJD Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 08:25 AM EST

ITS HORRIBLE WHAT NINA HAS DONE TO MOONLIGHT AND TO THE FANS SHE NEVER GAVE THE SHOW REAL SUPPORT OR BACKING. SINCE HER FULL SUPPORT AND BACKING IS WITH SMUTTOWN, WHICH REFLECTS HER MORALS? I HOPE OUR BOYCOTT AND BLACKOUT OF CBS, WILL BRING EVEN MORE DECLINE IN THE RATINGS!! AND SHE SURELY HAD NO CLUE OF THE MILLIONS OF DIE HARD LOYAL FANS BOTH HERE AND GROWING AROUND THE WORLD OF THIS GREAT SHOW THAT HAS GENERATED, AND WE VOW WE WILL NEVER GIVE UP ON OUR BELOVED MOONLIGHT, ALL WE WANT IS FOR A NETWORK TO PICK IT UP. SINCE CBS DOESN'T REALLY CARE WHAT THE VIEWERS REALLY WANT. WE WILL TAKE OUR MONEY WITH US, AND LET THE SMUTTOWN FANS SPEND THEIR MONEY. WE WANT OUR MOONLIGHT BACK, WE NEED OUR MICK/BETH/JOSEF FIX NOW. MOONLIGHT FAN 4 EVER.

lory Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 04:36 AM EST

The problem here it that Ms.Tassler can support a show , but if the viewers don't support it, it just goes down. Moonlight was strong supported by loyal viewers , just 16 episodes in a 9 month period time, only a show with a really loyal fan base could survive that. Ms. Tassler must realize that for ratings to work, it is not what she likes, but what viewers want to watch.

nkm Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 03:36 PM EST

Interesting that Nina Tassler "is behind Swingtown" in spite of low ratings, but was not behind Moonlight, even though network TV in general had a bad year due to the writer's strike and Friday night is not known for high ratings for ANY show. Just shows that networks execs will stand behind shows THEY like in hopes of finding it an audience. Too bad Moonlight wasn't given a fair chance to recover from the strike.

JB Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:20 PM EST

I tried watching Moonlight, it just never appealed to me no matter how much I wanted to what with the topic being Vampires and Jason Dohring in it. I think I couldn't get past Sophia Myles.

Saying that, I'm not going to crucify a network over ONE show getting canceled. Hell I'm still sore Veronica Mars was canceled but hell I love Gossip Girl and a couple other shows that I probably shouldn't. It's the nature of the business folks.

ML Girl:Watch Mr Sewell in something other then The HOliday. He's one of my top five actors to watch I've adored him for YEARS. Seen most everything he's been in, he's an incredibly passionate actor and gorgeous at that. No appeal my left foot.

I dig Swingtown, picked up something fierce last four episodes and I'd miss it if it left. Oh and Liz Phair does the music folks.

Ex List looks appealing to me, it's one of the only new shows I want to watch. I find Ms Reaser a joy to watch when she's being comedic.

Septbday Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 05:26 PM EST

To quote a fellow CBS.com poster, Nina you are a bottom feeding hose bag..............

GARY Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 05:20 AM EST

Nina is clueless when it came to MOONLIGHT. It was the storyline an actors that made this a fine production. I believe this was a line to the general public about MOONLIGHT being centered just on ALEX alone. We of the fanbase of MOONLIGHT like I said: Storyline (writing) and cast that made MOONLIGHT the PEOPLE'S CHOICE for best new drama.

Mandi Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 09:44 PM EST

Usually I stay out of the Moonlight fracas, but Tassler's comment was just rude. 'Actor-centric'? I assume she's talking about Alex. What crap! I loved the show and Alex's abs weren't on the list of reasons why! Why is she overtly insulting fans?
As for the rest of the line-up, the Mentalist seems the most interesting. I would have also watched Ex-List (I love Ruggiero!), but I won't in protest. So so dumb, because as an ex VMars writer, a lot of Moonlight fans(who watched for Jason) probably would have watched. Now that won't happen. What a silly marketing move...

End of infinity Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 03:03 PM EST

First let me offer a few definitions for the word recipe...
-a set of instructions for making something from various ingredients
-a formula or procedure for doing or attaining something
-directions for making something
All of these seem to point into the direction of positive results. But of course we all know that you can't have the right results without the right ingrediants or key players. So for Nina, to even allow the words such as those to come out of her mouth, without proper thought and or facts, is unnacceptable. The entire cast and crew of the show Moonlight, had a part to play big and small. Without the natural chemistry, between Alex and Sophia, there would have been no "Mickbeth" And when you add in the great talents of Jason and many key characters Ex: David Blue you got yourself a kick A$$ Show, that has more heart in it than Nina could ever attain in her own dwindling existance. We all make mistakes, but we learn from them, nina doesn't.

Mark Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 12:04 PM EST

Someone had to have paid Ausiello to say such positive things about Worst Week. It was the single Worst pilot I have ever seen!

Yvonne Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Can't believe Nina Tassler doesn't recognize the value of "Moonlight". She'll regret it some day when it becomes a big hit on another network.

Sandie Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 10:45 AM EST

She doesn't have a clue about the legions of Moonlight fans out there, or she does, but refuses to think we exist. Yes, Alex O'Loughlin is good looking but the chemistry with the cast is undeniable. I am sure they will all succeed on their own, but it will be a LONG TIME before another group of actors work that well together. I miss my Friday night fix of Moonlight!!!!!

Modo Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 10:24 AM EST

And this particular blow-by-blow of the new CBS FALL schedule mentioned Moonlight WHY? WHY bring it up now? As a fan of Moonlight, the WHOLE show, I have to laugh at Tassler's mentioning of the show in this particular report. She felt the need to rub our noses in the cancelation here, coming up with yet another lame reason. So, anyone who doesn't like the many replies by Moonlight fans, too bad. This comment was meant to do exactly what it did...give more replies and press to a network that KNOWS damn well that it screwed up. The continued twisting and turning of the reasons why the show is gone have fallen on the ears of people who no longer tune in to CBS. We aren't contacting you Nina, because it is clear to us that it is a waste of time. I suppose if we had sent garlic cloves to her instead of setting up blood drives and mailing glowing praise of the show and its cast, she may have not felt so neglected. In short, no CBS for me either. Thanks for letting us vent, Michael.

Linda Mon, Jul 21, 2008 at 03:42 AM EST

I'm disappointed at the lack of CSI:NY scoop. But, the confirmation of Rikki's return is already awesome news to me! Thanks for that, Ausiello. Finding that out was what made me interested in the show again. Funny what happened between Danny and Rikki is considered a 'soap opera' only by people shipping Danny and Lindsay. I think 'soap opera' applies much more to the painful fauxmance between Danny and Lindsay that's been dragged out for years.

Lisa Tarvin Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 08:01 PM EST

I think Nina isn't getting all the mail going to CBS about Moonlight. Someone is being denied critical need to know info. Ask any of the fans of Moonlight. It's not about an actor, it's about a cast and great writers. At least all the fans have the Twilight Saga to enjoy along with the movie in December. CBS you have missed the boat. Find a new captain. Paranormal romance has a huge following!

Jennifer Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 07:07 PM EST

Haha! Have you gone into hiding Ausiello? Can't say I blame you. My advice would be to post nothing about Danny/Lindsay/Rikki cause whatever snippets you get, the fall out will likely be bad on one or other side of the fandom. Personally I'm intrigued by Rikki's return even though my preference is to have Danny and Lindsay together, they have such a fun chemistry when they're not being all angsty. :)

JLR Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 06:50 PM EST

I am stunned that Ms. Tassler says that most of the feedback for Moonlight was "actor-centric"....What, did she read exactly one post raving about Alex O'Loughlin to come to that conclusion? Because I've read at least 100 posts today and I remember reading only ONE that focused solely on him. Come on - get real - the thousands and thousands of fans of Moonlight may or may not think the actors are hot but they certainly enjoy the intelligent scripts, the perfect mix of action and drama and the incredible chemistry between the characters. Hmmm....sounds like good reasons to watch ANY show! It's certainly why I tune in.

Perhaps another network will realize the full potential of this incredible show and pick it up. We can only continue to post our absolute disagreement with the decision to cancel it along with our fervent desire to see it return and hope THEY hear us, because CBS and Nina Tassler certainly aren't.

patricia Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 06:12 PM EST

I really hope that the writers do not resort to more soap opera storylines in CSI NY. The whole Danny Rikki drama was just ridiculous. And unfortunately leaves me with no faith that the writers can intelligently write themselves out of this mess in Season 5.

texzee Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 03:25 PM EST

Tina is seriously delusional and obviously requesting more mail. The fans love the entire cast of characters and the chemistry between them on Moonlight. I emphasize the word "characters". Yes, I love Mick (the charactered played by Alex)...that does not mean I'm going to love any character the guy plays. Trust me if you put Alex on CSI or How I Met Your Mother, I still won't watch them. Tina stop making up excuses...you made a mistake... correct it, and bring the show back!

nikki Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 01:35 PM EST

There you have it ladies and gentlemen, Don't find the lead character of your favorite series attractive, or Nina will cancell it. That is unless the main character is a moustached, leisure suit wearing, hairy swinger. Then she'll green light it, viewers or not.
So does this mean that a fan base shouldnt find the lead character attractive? "Actor-Centric"???

I thought it was commonplace formula to hire attractive people, otherwise I'm not sure why there are so many beautiful people on my television screen. I was brought in by the good looks of Alex O'Loughlin, but stayed for the witty banter and chemistry between all the actors. Jason Dohring and Sophia Myles did a fantastic job.

Nina is a dolt.

Lorelai Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 08:11 AM EST

Rikki returning to CSI NY?! Thank God! Awesome news! Just gotta love Jacqueline Pinol! A very talented actress and a beautiful lady! Not to mention that sparkling chemistry with Carmine Giovinazzo! ;)Romance or not, I'm happy to have her back on season 5!

mjade27 Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 08:09 AM EST

Tassler is so full of it. Her bold faced lies just illustrate how dumb she thinks her audience is. It amazes me that such an incompetent dolt holds such a high-powered position in the entertainment industry (although perhaps it should not). I guess I will continue to have no reason to watch CBS and will looks elsewhere for quality entertainment (BSG, 30-Rock, FOTC, Showtime, BBC, PBS, etc). I would check out the shows starring Simon Baker and Rufus Sewell if they were on another network, though. Wouldn't touch the "Ex-List" with a ten foot pole.

Shara Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 08:04 AM EST

I'm STILL mad that Moonlight was cancelled, she should be fired for that! The moron cancelled Moonlight but is "behind" Swingtown? I wouldn't watch Swingtown if they paid me! I wrote CBS about cancelling Moonlight, she is lying about not getting a lot of feedback on that. Again, too bad she's not fired.

Jane Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 07:27 AM EST

On CSI: NY--The ego-centric perpetual adolescent (Danny) and the mentally unstable felon (Rikki) screwing each other to make themselves (not each other)feel better is a "mature and realistic relationship"? Yikes!

I hate Rikki coming back because I'm sick of all the ridiculous DannyDrama. The entire Rikki storyline was asinine and soap-opera-y.

Tarc Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 03:50 AM EST

Not that there was any doubt before, but Tassler is a big fat liar. I *know* she got lots of Moonlight mail.

Dawn Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 01:09 AM EST

A big thumbs up to CSI:NY for bringing Rikki back. Jacqueline Pinol is a wonderful actress and she and Carmine sizzle together onscreen. Thank you for her return.

Faylinn Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 12:26 AM EST

Jacqueline Pinol was fantastic on CSI:NY, and I'm really looking forward to seeing her back in season 5. I'd love to know more about her return - although I have no doubt she'll be great no matter what they give her. She and Carmine have fantastic on-screen chemistry (I don't specifically mean romantic chemistry, but that is true as well), and she really brings out the best in his performance. It's wonderful to know that TPTB agree that she's worth bringing back.

Plus, of course, news that Rikki will be back is news that Danny will most likely have some good stuff coming up too - and Carmine never disappoints. :D

By the way, Robert Joy and AJ Buckley need to be put in the opening credits asap. ;)

louisa Sun, Jul 20, 2008 at 12:22 AM EST

Tassler is an idiot, maybe we should start a petition for her to be removed from her job....she is killing the network anyway. I think all the Moonlight fans would sign. What do you think?

E. Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 11:36 PM EST

Sometimes I'm embarassed to say I'm a DL shipper. No, not all of us think Rikki coming back is bad or want her gone forever. Some of us actually LIKE her returning. I used to love DL in season two but by season four, I'm sick of the drama and Lindsay's unfair treatment of Danny. I want it to end. I prefer them being just friends again. Their interaction was the best then. TPTB, leave the shipping to fandom, thanks.

Jamie Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 10:26 PM EST

Hi Ausiello! Is there any scoop on Rikki's return to CSi:NY yet? Danny and Rikki have a very deep and meaningful connection. It's refreshing to see a mature and realistic relationship on the series for a change. What's with Danny and Rikki 'unable to have a relationship' merely because they're grieving? I didn't realize grieving people are automatically doomed to a single life without love!

Anna Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 07:58 PM EST

That is bowloni ... Moonlight had lost of fans and still does.... haven't you seen the campaign that has been going around on the net .... she's an a**

Anna Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 07:57 PM EST

Danny and Lindsay from CSI:NY are great together. Is there any info about them for the upcoming season?

susy Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

What's with all the people wanting Danny and Rikki together anyway? Crazy. I want to know about Danny and Lindsay. They belong together.

Jen Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 07:02 PM EST

I'll join in the requests for info on CSI:NY. I am confused as to why Rikki is returning and hope tptb aren't going down a pregnancy route. Jacqueline Pinol is a good actress but where other people see chemistry in the relationship with Danny I see a desperate attempt of two people to deal with their guilt/grief. I hope they don't let it continue.

CH Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

BOOOOOOOOOO to Moonlight being gone!Nexy season our home will be CBS free because of it!

Chivonne Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 05:31 PM EST

I pretty much love Psych. That has nothing really to do with the topic. I just thought I'd point it out.
Also, Moonlight wasn't that bad. CBS doesn't have many good shows. FOX is my favorite network.

kim Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 05:23 PM EST

I think Lara Logan slept with someone in the military overseas and is now pregnant. They were both married to other people at the time.

liz Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 04:24 PM EST

The only two shows I watch on CBS are NUMB3RS and Moonlight. If my taste in television is so bad, maybe I should sto watching NUMB3RS.

moonlight fan Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 12:47 PM EST

Tessler's a BIG B! Moonlight was on a great day and time for it's fans. Perfect night. Well let's see how well the Ex-List does. A big HA there. I won't watch it.

J Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 12:46 PM EST

I can't believe what they did to Men in Trees!! Oops, wrong network

Morgan Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

Yes, remarking on how excellent one's cast is, is CLEARLY not good enough to save a show. While some of the story lines could have been a tad better, it was overall great in my opinion. One of the few shows that I actually felt alright about purchasing on iTunes. I think it's a GREAT idea for a network to alienate one's fans, guess I won't have any problem cutting CBS out of my fall viewing schedule for goodsies.

Jane Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 09:16 AM EST

Hopefully Rikki's just coming back for her trial since she's guilty of attempted murder.

Emma Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 05:47 AM EST

Is there any chance that you can find some scoop regarding Jacqueline Pinol's character in CSI:NY, Rikki, and her coming back to the show? It would be lovely to have her back, she is such a wonderful presence on the screen.

Gabrielle Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 05:05 AM EST

Thank you for the report, Ausiello! Can't wait for the scoop on CSI:NY and Rikki's return! I'm looking forward to seeing her with Danny again!

Meredith44 Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 01:09 AM EST

I was/am one of those "actor-centric" people that she refers to in regards to Moonlight. I pretty much watched only for Alex. (The storylines were decent, but not spectacular, and while I did also like Shannyn Sossamon, the others I could take or leave; I found Sophia Miles particularly weak.) But why should that matter, as I was watching?

In regards to the other shows, I think The Eleventh Hour looks the most promising. None of the others look interesting enough at the moment for me to think about watching. Maybe that will change as more information/critical reviews are released when the season draws closer.

Debbie Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 12:39 AM EST

Well I guess she said it in a nut shell...She still does not listen to her fans or reads any of her mail or the CBS forum for Moonlight. If she did you would know that it is not a one actor deal here "Its all of them" it's Moonlight the show that has the fans. I hope that the fans from all of CBS other shows see's how she blows us off and treats us as being announying to her. Her day will come...

laura-moonlight Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 12:33 AM EST

Nina was expecting tons of mail from US asking her to save Moonlight??? ha ha. I rather have the show be cancel OR shown on another network then ask HER for anything.

Leena Sat, Jul 19, 2008 at 12:09 AM EST

Thanks for the scoop on CSI! It's too bad William Petersen is leaving. CSI won't be the same without him.

Any info on Rikki coming back to CSI: New York and why? She and Danny have great chemistry. It would make my week to hear news of them becoming a couple!

Nancy Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:49 PM EST

I believe that Ms. Tassler knows she made a mistake. However, with all of the rude things she has said she will probably never admit it. Hopefully Moonlight will be picked up by another network. We (us fans) will continue to email, write, whatever it takes to get our beloved show back. No doubt Alex is hot, but Sophia is beautiful and Jason is the best. As far the post from non-fans of Moonlight, that's okay. We all have the right to voice our opinion and have our likes and dislikes. Seems to me that there are more Moonlight fans than not.

Bobbi Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:24 PM EST

Count me in as another curious about Rikki's return to CSI:NY! I thought her character was wonderful and left a really good impression on me. Her interactions with Danny were wonderful to watch too.

Jasmine Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:17 PM EST

There's still no news on CSI: NY? I'm really interested in any scoop about Rikki .... Loved seeing her on the show with Danny! I hope she'll be appearing for more than a "few" episodes!

Kimmie Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:17 PM EST

Can we get a scoop on Danny and Lindsay from CSI:NY, I just love them.

Dana Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:07 PM EST

OMG! That woman! I just cant believe the freaking nerve. She just loves to insult the fans the channel has been removed from my quide list on Dish and I havent missed it at all. Moonlight was the best thing that they had going for them. They were ahead of all the Vampire show hoopla and chose to cancel. It just blows the mind.

Diana Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 11:06 PM EST

Are there any spoilers for CSI:N.Y.? Specifically on Rikki Sandoval's return? Jacqueline Pinol is a wonderful actress! It's great to know she'll be back in season five.

Sharon Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:54 PM EST

Nina, Nina, Nina....I am sure you have gotten mail, you just might have refused to read it. All you have to do is go to the many "Moonlight" sites such as CBS "Moonlight" site and you can read how all the 8 million fans feel about the terrible decision you made to cancel "Moonlight". Just think, if you hadn't cancelled it, CBS would have been ahead of the game with all the vampire shows, movies, and interest about vampires becoming so popular. You are a big girl, admit you were wrong and bring back "Moonlight". There are so many unanswered questions and there are so many ways the storylines could go. We, the fans all 8 million plus, loved all the characters that made up "Moonlight" not just Alex alone. They all had their own talent on the show and all worked together to make a great show each Friday night. I hope you get to read this. Thanks!

K. C. Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:48 PM EST

Rikki returning was fantastic news! Is there any word on the reason for her return to CSI:NY? Perhaps a new relationship on the show is on the horizon?

Rhonda Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:45 PM EST

Any news on CSI:NY? I'm really looking forward to Jacqueline Pinol's character Rikki returning for season 5 and would love some info about it. Thanks.

sam Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:43 PM EST

That woman is an idiot--she prefers to support trash and killed a show that had a huge amount of potential. Do we love the actors? Of course--they are all great--but we really love them in the show. Alex is a star--why didn't they hold onto him and take advantage of his charisma? CBS should get rid of this woman immediately. I won't be watching Ghost Whisperer this season, although I started watching it when Moonlight began. I refuse to watch CBS primetime--as a matter of fact, the only thing that I watch on CBS is Craig Feruson and occasionally, Letterman. I predict that CBS will lose every Friday night.

Hannah Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:35 PM EST

Ghost Whisper is just...OK. Something to watch in aticipation of Moonlight. Moonlight should have been given a few more seasons and allowed to fizzle out like all the CSIs have. But instead...Moonlights cancelation has left us wondering about what would have, could have happened in the next week's episodes and the next seasons. Moonlight's future had so many opportunities to explore. If not, the fans would not be fans and we wouldn't be wanting more. As I have read on other blogs...why watch any new shows this season from CBS, we can wait to see if there is a second season on any of their new line up then decide if it is worth it. Moonlight was unique in the sense that it was unrealistic and in today's world, what is wrong with wanting. It was such a beautiful fantasy to escape in for one hour a week! As far as my family and I are concerned cbs is now cbX in our home. No longer will we watch until our beloved Moonlight returns.

Mary Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 10:34 PM EST

I think Nina was head over heels about Alex and to hide her infatuation, she dumped Moonlight. There was a lot more to Moonlight than just 1 actor. How about the others!
I always thought people watched TV to watch actors! I doubt people would have watched Bugs Bunny without Bugs Bunny. Nina Tassler's rationale is unbelievable!

Hillary Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 09:37 PM EST

It was mostly "actor-centric"?! You know, it sounds like Nina's in denial. She's probably one of those people who refused to give the show a real chance because it was about (GASP) vampires. Oh the horror. See if I watch any of your new shows this fall. Well, maybe Eleventh Hour, but I'll definitely tune out for that one Jay Mohr show...what's it called again?

ML Girl Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 09:26 PM EST

Nina Tassler, you deserve to be fired! Did you not even watch your own show? AOL was great as Mick St. John, but the fan response to Moonlight was more than the one actor. I, as did most, watched it for the stories, the action, the drama, the relationships. Mick and Beth; Mick and Josef, Beth and Josef. We love Alex O'Loughlin, but it was the tortured sole of Mick St. John and his love for Beth and her love for him, and all of the relationships combined that kept the audience coming back. Now look at the international fan base as these 16 episodes are now commencing to be shown in other countries. You don't know what your fans want and the sooner CBS realizes this the better for them. I, myself, am not returning to CBS (unless of course you bring back Moonlight!). And for the 11th Hour, that guy was the biggest cad in the "Holiday". He has no appeal.

Impunity Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 08:50 PM EST

This woman(?) is nuttier than a fruitcake. Now that they are in danger of losing their only "hit" show CSI...I mean, Jorja bailed, Gary's jailed, now William walks...you know what deserts a sinking ship...NOW she "considers" Alex??? How insulting...Guess she figures now all us Star-struck Moonlight fans who only ever watched for the sake of Alex will save CSI. I don't know what passes for thought processes in her brain...It was Moonlight that drew us...the story, the chemisty, the romance, the VAMPIRES! Putting Alex in a tired old done-to-death show would not be doing him any favours. It sounds like Nina is trying to cash in on all the Moonlight fans by this manoever, without actually admitting the EYE made a huge blunder in cancelling Moonlight months before vampires take over the airwaves!

JANE Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 08:45 PM EST

To even mention it, means we all got to her!! Shame on her... I loved the show not just Beth or Alex or Jason or
David.. She obviously doesn't "get" men and women and what we like .

Janice Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 08:30 PM EST

The reason Nina does not get much mail is not one cares what she thinks. My watching Moonlight had nothing to do with Alex alone. I liked the other actors and the fact that it was not the same reality trash.
As for CBS we will no longer watch it in my home. I think that it is a shame that Gill will no longer be a part of the cast but I feel that CSI will not survive without him. Any attempts will just limp them through another year. As for Nina I could care less what she does from this point on I stopped caring the day she canceled Moonlight. She will never admit that she is wrong even though every outlet has report that they felt it was a mistake. I like many faithful viewers will wait for Moonlight to rise again in another form somewhere down the line.

Kris Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 07:50 PM EST

Ms. Tassler is WRONG. I echo what quite a few posts here are saying. True, we all liked Alex O'Loughlin...BUT we also LIKED Jason, Sophia, etc. It was a great ensemble cast, the writing was good. It was nice to see SOMETHING other than reality shows on the air. Moonlight was something different, and everyone worked soooo hard to accomplish that...then, 'the suits' go and cancel it for pete's sake. Moonlight WILL reappear down the road, Joel Silver has too good a product, and he knows it. Someone in my family pointed out that the Emmy nominations are primarily for shows ON CABLE, NOT networks. The networks keep messing up, NO ONE is gonna watch them. My family and I watch TNT, USA, AMC, USA, Fox, TCM, SCI-FI anyway. I'm looking forward to getting my Moonlight dvd for my birthday in September (Alex O'Loughlin and I share the same zodiac!!), so each Friday night, I'll be watching it!!!

Greeneyes279 Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 07:45 PM EST

I cannot believe what I am reading! What planet did Nina Tassler come from? Moonlight is a terrific show AND it has terrific actors that have that special on-screen chemistry.

Nina has no clue what her customers want & is not willing to listen. It almost feels as though there is more to this than any of us will ever know.

The decision to cancel Moonlight just doesn't make good business sense. Moonlight was consistently winning its Friday night 9pm time slot. HBO is coming out with a vampire series, the Twilight book series is really hot & the Twilight movie is coming out in December. CBS WAS ahead of the game & could have capitalized on all the interest in the vampire genre by giving Moonlight a 2nd season.

It is truly amazing to me that Nina thinks she didn't get any mail. It is more like she didn't want to see it or hear the anguished, angry outcry from Moonlight fans around the world. Nina, pull your head out of the sand or you know where. It's ok to admit you're wrong.

Melanie Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 07:24 PM EST

I love Swingtown! Yep, it's cheesy, but I was a teenager in the 70s and its bcome my guitiest pleaseure! I can't wait to see how it will all play out. It has the makings of a perfect night time soap if it is just given the chance.

Alicia Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 07:01 PM EST

In regards to the comment that Stella can't be the mother because there was no umbrella involved in the meeting, that's not necessarily true. Ted got the umbrella on St. Patrick's day at a club, the same night Stella said was her only night out in a long time and she also went to a club. It is possible that they met that night and Ted was too drunk to remember. Stella could be the mother. I personally don't think she is, but there have been clues that say she could be.

Chris Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 06:18 PM EST

I really need some scoop on Danny/Lindsay in CSI NY especially to soften the blow of last weeks cast news of Rikki returning.

Betty Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 06:05 PM EST

Ms Tassler only hopes that Moonlight fans have forgotten Moonlight because she hopes that everyone else will forget her mistake canceling this show. Eight million ratings countable fans plus all the ratings invisible ones made Moonlight Best New Drama PCA. Alex O'Loughlin is only one element in a a sizzling cast. Moonlight has excellent writing and production values to create their chemistry. Vampires are the hottest new commodity in television and movies. CBS had a stylish and sexy vampire series with Moonlight that would have put this network ahead of the trend. Ms Tassler is unwilling to admit that she is mistaken both about her decision to cancel Moonlight and the dedication of Moonlight fans.

Livia Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

GET CRIMINAL MINDS SCOOP DUDE!

Melinda65 Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 05:24 PM EST

Nina Tassler is an idiot. I plan to hold a grudge and not watch The Ex-List, just as I did for Joan of Arcadia and avoided Ghost Whisperer (in fact, the few times that I actually saw GW was because I was waiting for Moonlight to start.)

Those of us who liked Moonlight will continue to complain about bad decisions as long as we want to. Get over it and move on.

Raven_Moon Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 05:10 PM EST

What is wrong with this Tassler woman? Does she get off on insulting fans? With "Moonlight" gone, if it weren't for How I Met Your Mother" I wouldn't watch CBS at all.

meg Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 04:50 PM EST

Saw the pilot for the mentalist and was hooked, helps that I would follow Simon Baker anywhere.

Dan Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 04:45 PM EST

What's with all the whining about Moonlight?

laura-moonlight Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

"actor-centric" ???? .... huh.

Nina is soooo right! how in the hell will watch a show where people will become fans of the lead actor. Thank God she saved us!!!

Mimi Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 03:43 PM EST

I was Moonlight a fan but it's done. It's over. Move on.

Claudia Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 03:23 PM EST

..."actor-centric" ?? Is this yet another way to ridicule us, Moonlight fans, implying that we are just after a good-looking, sexy guy? Is this all Mrs. Tassler thinks women who watch TV do? Is this statement another of her clever ideas to attract female wiewers to her network? I am very confused, really, because it all sounds consistent, also, with the type of show she thinks really attracts women... You would think that somebody in a job like hers, and especially an intelligent woman, would understand her gender better... or at least would avoid further insulting people whom she has already insulted and disrespected BIG TIME

L Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 03:08 PM EST

Oh for god sakes, GET OVER MOONLIGHT ALREADY!!!!

D Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 03:07 PM EST

CRIMINAL MINDS SCOOP PLEASE!!!!!

kingle Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:55 PM EST

Something is definitely rotten in Denmark...make that at CBS. Interesting that what Nina said is in direct conflict with what I was told, on more than one occasion and by those that actually dealt with such things, that they were being inundated with calls, emails and snail mail. As to it being actor-centric, which particular one did she have in mind? Alex? Jason? Sophia? Shannyn? Others? They are all excellent actors, but it is the interaction of all and the writing, that make it such a great series. My husband and son are also huge fans..in fact they felt strongly enough that they called and mailed in complaints. Two phrases come to mind when I think of Nina's comments: The check is in the mail, and Deny! Deny!Deny! If the first doesn't work then apply the second! Well CBS, I have a phrase of my own: Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye to your network and all those who treated so many viewers as idiots who didn't have a clue as to what they wanted and/or want to view.

lvmoonlght Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:44 PM EST

I have to say I'm disgusted with Ms. Tassler's comments. I was a loyal CSI fan, and NCIS, Numbers and Criminal Minds. I AM a devoted Moonlight fan. But, with the attitude that CBS has toward their viewers, and the cancelling of Moonlight I do not watch CBS! The station turns my stomach now. The CSI's have gotten stale. They've gutted shows with creativity, substance and romance. In fact they don't like romance in any of their shows. They like violence, junk and smut these days. No Ms. Tassler you've really missed the boat this time with you comments.

A disatisfied "former" viewer of CBS

Kat Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:42 PM EST

Let's see....Moonlight had 8 million viewers and won the Friday dead spot for CBS week after week. Even after the strike, we viewers came back. Yes, many of us started to watch Moonlight for Alex O'Loughlin, but stuck around for the stories, romance, vampire genre, intrigue, and all the other cast members. We became hooked. And then all of a sudden it was cancelled, even though most in the industry were convinced it would be back. So what does CBS program? Swingtown. Oh, isn't that the show that Procter and Gamble refuses to advertise during? And the Ex-List. A woman has to go through her past lovers to find the one who was meant to be. And if she doesn't she will be *GASP!* single for the rest of her life. Isn't that flattering towards women * you're not complete unless you have a man. But yet that's what Tassler thinks women want. Gimme a freaking break. Women want their Moonlight!!

Lizzo13 Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:37 PM EST

I'm sorry, but Stella can't be the mother. There was no umbrella involved in their meeting, and the timeline is all wrong. Plus, I think the kids would know if they had a 30 year old stepsister... There are just too many reasons it doesn't work, and I'd feel cheated if she did end up being the mother. I think Sarah Chalke is a great actress, but I'm also not in love with her character like everyone else seems to be.. I like her fine but definitely not enough for her to be the mother, and I think she and Ted have terrible communication. I just can't see it working.. Would still like to hear more about next season though!

mdaily Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:34 PM EST

I watched the BBC version of "Eleventh Hour" with actor Patrick Stewart (Picard in Star Trek) and his sidekick, actress Ashley Jensen (Christina in Ugly Betty). It is a cerebral kind of show, a sort of X-Files without the aliens or spookiness. One of the episodes, for example, involved human cloning; another the spread of an ebola-type disease (and the character's attempt to stop it before it became an epidemic). It will be interesting to see how it translates as a US show.

Melissa Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:26 PM EST

Aus, is CBS having a panel for The Ex-List? I've seen the pilot and it's GOOOOOD. Out of loyalty to Moonlight, I wanted it to be awful, but it's not. I loved it and my girlfriends loved it. I also though Worst Week was pretty funny; dunno if I'd want to watch it on a weekly basis, but the pilot made me giggle.

Steph F. Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:23 PM EST

WTF is up with this Tassler lady?
Yeah... it just took a bit longer to announce the renewal, what was she contemplating? A new CSI? oh dear god.
Why did she have to give her thoughts on whether Sarah Chalke is mommy or not? GEH.
I hope the Moonlight fans get her good. I have a new broadcast network exec to hate on now, thanks xD

Gin Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:19 PM EST

Swingtown is a surprising gem, IMHO. Any scoop on whether it's gonna survive the summer tide?

Katie Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:05 PM EST

I'm so tired of Nina Tassler's comments regarding our beloved Moonlight. She has completely dismissed millions of fans like we don't count. It's funny - I work at a bank and I think that we should get rid of all these customers so that we can get our work done. Makes perfect sense - just as ridiculous as CBS not caring about the fans - I thought that's what TV programming was all about!!!

Holly Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 02:04 PM EST

The reason Ms. Tassler has not been getting much mail from fans is because we left CBS behind months ago. We're not writing them letters and we sure are not watching them. CBS who? is my opinion. She will never admit that she made a mistake...even when CBS's ratings are down the drain. I don't know if she's heard, but right now, vampires are HOT!

Yes, we love Alex and I'm sure that will be a part of any Moonlight letter, but for most of us, we fell in love with the story and the characters.

One of these days Ms. Tassler will notice that she's made a mistake, but by then it will be too late!

Septbday Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 01:49 PM EST

Nina is lying through her teeth. She will feel the scorn of Moonlight fans a long time to come............
Off with her head!!!

xsikal Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 01:45 PM EST

I'm glad Moonlight is gone. Hopefully, this will be the last post whose comments are monopolized by Moonlight fans.

Analu Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 01:41 PM EST

Ms. Tassler, for an executive in your position you still have a lot to learn regarding the way you treat the viewers. This complete disrespect towards MOONLIGHT fans will cost you a lot. If I lived in America I would never watch your network again, knowing that this is how you treat your viewers.

Thank God, CBSucks doesn´t air here in Brasil.

Analu, São Paulo, Brasil

Snarf Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 01:40 PM EST

So basically what she's really saying is "I don't give a rats ass what anybody says" And with Twilight mania starting to boil cancelling Moonlight could well turn out to be a CLM (career limiting move)

lunarlover Fri, Jul 18, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

I think Nina Tassler should feel like she has egg on her face. How can she consistantly scoff at the loyal viewers of Moonlight? Then continue to back a show like Swingtown? A blatent bad decision on her part. She needs to realize the reason she is not getting mail is due to the fact that she refuses to be responsive to its contents. After she cancelled Moonlight, fans united and posted, emailed and wrote letters trying to convince her to change her mind to no avail. Millions of fans from around the world have moved on and campaign for a network who can appreciate Moonlight and its fans.
