Exclusive: 'CSI' Boss Outlines Season of Change

All together now, CSI fans: Breathe. Executive producer Carol Mendelsohn assures me that her team was anything but blindsided by the upcoming departure of William Petersen. "We do have a plan," she says. And that plan includes not only Grissom's sure-to-be-stellar swan song, but also the arrival of some new blood (one with funky DNA), the return of some old blood (welcome back, Jorja Fox!) and an episode that's been nearly nine years in the making. Here, Mendelsohn and fellow EP Naren Shankar offer an exclusive preview of what will go down when this sure-to-be-controversial season starts up.

* Jorja Fox will be back for "multiple" episodes, beginning with September's season premiere -- an hour that will also feature an appearance by Gary Dourdan's Warrick, who was seemingly shot to death in last May's finale. "We're not saying whether or not Warrick lives or dies," hedges Mendelsohn, "but we will say that the premiere may be the last time our loyal fans see the entire original CSI cast together."

* Previously-announced addition Lauren Lee Smith (The L Word) joins the cast in the third episode as new CSI Riley Adams. "She will come in to ostensibly replace Sara Sidle," says Mendelsohn. "She has a very distinct personality... a very wry sense of humor. She doesn't take herself too seriously." Adds Shankar: "This is a person who, unlike the rest of our gang, has not had Grissom as a mentor. So there's a very different relationship between Riley and Grissom."

* Another new CSI, this time a male, will be brought in later this fall, but "he will not appear on the landscape as a CSI to begin with," teases Mendelsohn. "He's a professor with background in pathology. He will appear when Grissom is investigating what will be a two-part case. He will help Grissom and the team bring the perpetrator to justice, and then this character will stay around and ultimately become a CSI." And although Mendelsohn says the new guy (who will possess a very rare genetic abnormality) will "not necessarily [replace Grissom as] supervisor," he'll inevitably be branded Petersen's replacement -- if for no other reason than the caliber of actor being sought for the role: Kurt Russell, Laurence Fishburne and John Malkovich are said to be at the top of CBS' wish list. Of the three, Mendelsohn would only confirm that Malkovich was approached, adding that "scheduling conflicts" had quickly taken him out of the running.

* Current cast members Liz Vassey (lab rat Wendy) and David Berman (coroner David) have been upped to full-fledged series regulars. Wallace Langham's Hodges, meanwhile, will become more prominent.

* Arguably the drama's most infamous serial menace to date, the Miniature Killer, "will come back for an episode," Mendelsohn reveals. "Grissom will cross paths with her."

* Finally, the show will celebrate its landmark 200th episode this spring with a blockbuster installment helmed once again by Petersen's good friend (and To Live and Die in L.A. director) William Friedkin. Is it fair to assume that this could be the episode in which Petersen debuts as a very special CSI guest star? "Billy will definitely be on the set for Mr. Friedkin's episode -- whether it's behind the camera or in front of the camera is TBD," Mendelsohn teases. "I don't think you'll be able to keep him away once he's back in L.A."

Wait, there's more -- but you have to pick up this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly to find out what other cool surprise CSI has in store for you this season. That's on sale this Friday, but there's plenty to do in the meantime. For starters, you could start filling up the comments section with your thoughts on CSI: TNG. Will these new characters fill the void left by Petersen, Fox and Dourdan? Can they? Are you sticking with CSI for the long haul? Or are you now thinking of playing the field Thursdays at 9? Discuss below!

After reading so many comments about how CSI will never be the same without Grissom, I wanted to add a couple more comments myself about the show & it's characters. All of you who said that the show is nothing without Grissom, Warrick, & Sara are all so very right!!! I understand that these characters/actors/actress must sometimes move on with their personal lives & I wish no more than the BEST for all of them, I just really can't express enough how BIG the show with these 3 characters really was, & it will absolutely, truly never ever be as good without them. I agree that William Petersen's role was so great as a boss, a friend, & someone who really cared about his employees, & he will never be replaced by anyone as great as he was for this show. It is of great interest to me what his future holds for him & I hope that he excels in everything he ever does after CSI. He will be a great asset in whatever he does & I will miss him the most of all out of anyone on the planet earth.:(:(:(

CSI was William Petersen. I have watched & collected every season & episode & I have visited vegas with hopes & dreams of getting to meet Gil in person. I came home with nearly $500.00 worth of CSI memorabilia & my girlfriend made me a pair of shorts with Gil's picture on the back of my shorts!!! I couldn't believe that they did not have anything like that out in vegas??? That just goes to show that I have been in love & infactuated with William Petersen since the 1st time I had ever seen him on TV. In addition to him being an extremely awesome actor, he is very extremely handsome. If I had 1 wish in the world, it would be to meet William Petersen & have the chance to visit with him. I have spent the last 10 years waiting from Thursday to Thursday to watch him on CSI & now that he is no longer on the show, I do not even care to watch it. I am so interested in knowing what his future plans are now that he has left the show, & any information on how I may get the chance to meet him!Thanx

To me petersen is csi.and when you change the team you change csi you might as well end csi and start new

Michelle Mon, Feb 2, 2009 at 04:17 AM EST

I think there could be a really great storyline with Jorja & William....I would be quite interested in finding out.
I miss them terribly!

Judith McNeece Tue, Jan 27, 2009 at 11:56 AM EST

Sorry! CSI is not the same. When Jorja Fox left that was it for me. Haven't watched it since.

socrug15 Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 09:29 PM EST

If people have been doing their researc you would know that no one was kicked off the show. Warrick left CSI because he had a drug problem. Grissom left by choice, but he plans on returning. I think Laurence Fishburne is an excellent actor and will do a great job. Just be positive, the show is still very good. If someone was a true fan they would not give up on the show that easily. Oh, and to let everyone know, Grissom is helping to write the upcoming episodes!

Gabrielle Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 11:51 PM EST

I just discovered CSI a couple seasons ago but instantly fell in love with the show AND Gil. It broke my heart watching Warrick and Sara leave, and I cried during both shows. Watching Grissom leave brought a boatload of tears too! It's too bad, I really liked where the plot was going before everyone left. I'm sorry to say I don't think I'll watch it again. :( Miss you Grissom!!!

Mary Kay Wed, Jan 21, 2009 at 02:37 PM EST

It is Jan. 21, 2009....I watched Grissom say goodbye last week... I was not at all happy about it but even worse.... he went to Sara @!#$!? NO, this is not what the viewers wanted to see. Lady Heather would have been better!! The women out there that LOVE Gil want him single!!! I hope Sara gets bitten by a rabbid spider monkey and dies.. and Grissom comes back!!!!!!!!!!

Kelly Tue, Jan 20, 2009 at 11:39 AM EST

Gil was the whole reason I watched the show from the start. He has some pretty big shoes to fill. I hate to say it but without Gil I don't think CSI will continue to be what it once was. I will miss Grissom every Thursday night. I feel as if I've lost a very good friend.

LYNN GANSEL Sun, Jan 18, 2009 at 07:08 PM EST

WITH ALL THE TURMOIL GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY AND LIVES WE NEED THE GOOD THING TO STAY THE SAME AND THE BAD THINGS TO CHANGE. THE LOSSES IN THE PAST YEAR HAVE BROUGHT US DOWN AND THIS IS THE FINAL BLOW. THIS SHOW GAVE US COMFORT IN KNOWING THE GREAT CHARACTERS WE KNOW THEIR HISTORY. THIS IS LIKE MULTIPLE DEATHS IN OUR LIVES. THEY ARE PEOPLE WE LOVED. WE NEED THINGS WE CAN COUNT ON NOT UPHEAVAL. THESE PEOPLE WERE UNIQUE NO ONE UNIQUE TOOK SARA'S PLACE . SAME FOR WARRICK. GRISSOM CAN,T BE REPLACED. YOU HAVE TOO MANY TO CATCH UP ON. IT CAN'T BE DONE. I WON'T BE WATCHING TO SEE. I'LL STILL BE SAD AND GRIEVING.

Lynn Sat, Jan 17, 2009 at 12:51 PM EST

I have been along time fan of the show and Grissom to me is CSI. I watched when Sara left a shock but when Warick left that was a blow one of those I can't beleave he left the show, but Grissom heart breaking. But I do beleave the show will live on it's up there with Law & Order look at all the changes that show went through. I will be there to see the end but please don't kill off Nick :)

Myrna Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 12:22 PM EST

Grissam was in the birth of CSI. He was the heart of the show. He was friend, teacher, confidant and corrector all in one best boss. How do you replace him. I was a faithful fan. Will miss him as an actor and charcter hard to find someone to fill his shoes. Good Luck Grissam. Miss you already.

Garry Halsted Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 10:14 AM EST

I have watched C.S.I. Miami since the beginning and Gil Grissam made the show.Watch the rateings of C.S.I. go down,I'm done without Gil Grissam the show is history!!

cruizen4u Fri, Jan 16, 2009 at 01:14 AM EST

I like many others have been a faithful fan since day one. I loved each and every one of the actors and what they brought to the show on a weekly basis. What's left? Do you think George Eads deserves this? Eric Szmanda? or Paul Guilfoyle? Those were my favorites. Don't get me wrong, Laurence Fishburne is a wonderful actor and even he will be cheated out of something. I really don't think I will be there for the long haul. After you wrote Warrick out of the show I lost interest. Good luck. Maybe I will try another show before you start messing with all the other CSI shows....

Cindy Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 10:50 PM EST

I don't think that I can watch CSI now with Grissom gone. He was the show, he made the show and now he's gone. Too bad...

Gerald Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 09:47 PM EST

yep, there you net work guys go again, just can't leave a good thing alone, you always think you can make changes and us stupid fans will get used to it. Well, flash to you, this time you messed up bad, the show will die now, shame, it was a really good show.

Dortha Rosenow Thu, Jan 15, 2009 at 09:25 PM EST

I could not believe Warrack could be shot by a policeman. You start something with Sara and Gil and just when we get interested, pull the plug. oh well. welcome to TV Not sure I will watch it now. love the other three, but can't believe half the team left such a popular rated show, all in one year. good luck to all of you and God Bless

Krissy Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 02:57 PM EST

I will have to agree with the majority of the comments on this site that CSI will never be the same. It was bad enough when Sara and Warrick left the show, but this is just really pushing the envelope. I will watch Grissom final show but that will be it for me!

debbie Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 11:18 AM EST

i have watched csi from the begining and grissim is the one who makes csi worth watching.i do know when he leaves the show,it wont be the same.all i can say is we love ya grissim,so please come back to the show, maybe bring sara back to,they made a good couple.william peterson is the greatest.thank you,a fan always of grissim, debbie c.from ohio

Judy Schumaker Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 11:31 AM EST

I love the show . Was sad to see Warwick & Sara go . I've collected all the videos of the episodes.
Now William Peterson is leaving !!The show won't be the same . It was the characters that made the show . Their relationship with one another. They were like a huge loving family .
I will greatly miss William Peterson .
The show won't be the same with another huge star gone .

walter Mon, Jan 12, 2009 at 04:20 PM EST

I love your show and i will surely miss Grissim as weii as warrick and sarer.I will continue to watch before i make a decision to stay a fan are not.

me Sun, Jan 11, 2009 at 09:03 PM EST

when billy leaces so will i , too bad i have been a fan since the pilot episode

dessa Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 11:05 PM EST

I don't think I could ever enjoy the show without Gil Grissom. I don't like change. I want Dourdan and Fox back too. But Gill being gone will drive me to a different show for that time slow. I won't watch.

Susan Rodriguez Sat, Jan 10, 2009 at 09:52 PM EST

I am sick about William Peterson leaving the show. People do not always like change, especially in such an awesome show! I also didn't like Warrick and Sarah leaving . My girls and I will try to continue watching the show, but I can't say for sure. My mother in-law is pretty sure she won't continue watching. I hope he (William)changes his mind or something. If my "boyfriend" Nick leaves, I probably won't be able to take it!!! He is a good actor and really, really nice to look at!

Tiger Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 05:44 PM EST

I am so upset. I have been watching the show from the very beginning. Got a lot of other ppl hooked on it as well. When they did the spin offs of CSI NY, and CSI Miami i started watching those also, but no one, not one, can or could replace Grissom. As a retired PD officer, it is one of my favorite shows, and I just dont know if I will be able to enjoy it like I did. Bad enough to lose Sara and Warrick and now Grissom. Just breaks my heart. You will be sorely missed.

betty Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 09:37 AM EST

I really don't know if I will watch the show after Grissom leaves. I miss Sara and Warrick so much.

Kathy Fri, Jan 9, 2009 at 12:39 AM EST

I am not happy that Grisson is leaving. I am sure I will find another program to watch or just turn off the TV. I guess everyone show be able to continue to live his or her dream. Chances are I will not watch the finaly show.

Mike Evans Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 10:15 PM EST

Much like our current situation with the economy, wars, everything in general. Sometimes it appears that there is no ryme nor reason to why things happen. This is another instance. This man and this show started something that has lead to a huge following. Anyway you slice it, without Grissom on screen, this show is doomed. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

John Tue, Jan 6, 2009 at 11:03 AM EST

I have liked CSI from day one and I have bought all the seasons, but changing some thing great mite cause viewers to stop watching. Me I am a die hard fan of the show and I will stop watching when they stop making the show.

Days Sun, Jan 4, 2009 at 06:30 PM EST

The original cast is what made CSI Las Vegas. With Grissom leaving I don't know if it will work. I will give it a try.

emily Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:19 PM EST

and i found out he was leaving the show yesterday!! ;_; just think how sad i am rite now!! ibawled like a friggin baby that day when i watched "For Warrick" then i cried harder when i heard billy was leaving!!
i curled up in the fetal position and cried my self to sleep! and it was 10:00 at night!! i dont usually fall asleep until 1:00 am!!

emily Fri, Jan 2, 2009 at 07:13 PM EST

STOP IT!!!!! why?!!?! you could replace everyone on the show fine! but billy?

you producers are going to fukcing regret taking him off the air!! we want to see on camera not behind it!!!
im NEVER gonna watch "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" EVER AGAIN!!!!
i never knew CSI existed until last year when i switched the channel to Spike! i insently fell in love with Gil Grissom!! :[
well i love you billy but once your off the show you will lose a lot of hearts that day.. i hope you know that. :[

also if they kick off George Eads i am personally going to kill the producer!! >:] DONT SUE!!!!!!!!

David Carlisle Wed, Dec 31, 2008 at 09:51 PM EST

Griss was the only thing that would have kept me going after Sara and Warrick were CAST aside - I'll try it but doubt I'll like it

David Carlisle

Patt Smith Sat, Dec 27, 2008 at 12:50 PM EST

I REALLY did enjoy Grissom, he was my very favorite and being handicapped my evenings r spent recharging my chair so I am a "captured audience" however I am STILL in charge of my remote and without Grissom I WILL become a channel surfer until I am satisfied with MY PERSONAL CSI replacement.

Alicia (Doc) Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 08:46 AM EST

I want to add this to my comment, posted earlier...I "WILL NOT!!!" BE WATCHING THE SHOW ONCE WILLIAM BOUNCES!! UH-UH! NO WAY!!

Alicia (Doc) Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 08:22 AM EST

I recently started & got hooked on CSI. I both LOVE!! & ENJOY!! watching the show. William (Gil Grissom) is an OG!! by far!! I will miss watching him...heart felt deeply. The show just ISN'T!! the same without him!!! & NO MATTER!!!!! who new they bring in they will NEVER be able to give the audience that "OG Grissom" feeling!!

Karen Fri, Dec 19, 2008 at 10:40 PM EST

I hate it. It isn't CSI without Grissom. I don't think I'll be watching the new season, I'll watch until he is gone. We've had too many losses this year, no more. And what about Lady Heather & Grisson? I loved her. Now we have a skeleton crew. As much as I love John Malkovich, and I do, it;s not the same.

carol Thu, Dec 18, 2008 at 10:39 PM EST

I will not be watching CSI once Peterson leaves. It was bad enough when Fox left, then you killed off
Warren. No Peterson is the last straw. Too bad. This was always the top CSI!

Sat, Dec 13, 2008 at 05:20 PM EST

Okay I love grissom he is my favorite character left and now that he isn't going to be there anymore I don't have any characters left that make me want to watch the show so now I need to find something else to watch this sucks.

Jean Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 01:35 PM EST

And if there is a lady involved when any guest episodes are done, PLEASE let it be Lady Heather. Gil and Sarah, boring. Gil and Lady Heather, there's some relationship energy

Jean Fri, Dec 12, 2008 at 01:29 PM EST

Peterson is important, but he is not the entire show. They ld very well construct a character that is just as interesting played by an actor just as capable. Give the cast and storylines a chance to readjust, and in so doing, let's support an actor who has given us much entertainment (for loads of money, yes) and wants to go on to the next challenge. Let's ALL give the show a chance if for no other reason than supporting it long enough to see his guest return

Evelyn Turvey Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 10:58 PM EST

Billy is leaving CSI and will be missed by more than his co-stars. Without Grissom, I won't be watching CSI Las Vegas. So what is on the other two primetime networks? I guess I'll find out.

Emily Thu, Dec 11, 2008 at 09:06 PM EST

Just because the show won't be the same, doesn't mean it will be bad. ;'D

And like Catherine said in an episode "Sometimes fantasy is better than reality".

:3
You can always imagine the team sticking' together.

Way to go CSI! Good luck in "the real world" Billy.

~Emily

CSI will never be the same without Peterson. I wish him great success. Very talented actor. I will continue to watch to see what developes with Peterson and Fox but will reserve any long term committments to the show. He's the main reason I am a faithful CSI fan.

betty Sat, Nov 8, 2008 at 02:49 PM EST

hate to see william peterson leave. has not been same since sara left. why can't they hook up those two. i sure don't like katherine

Kelly Thu, Nov 6, 2008 at 08:41 PM EST

I have faithfully watched CSI from the first season, in fact It's the only CSI I watch regularly and I rank it still as number one even if I have to catch it on DVR. I have all seasons on DVD and still love to revisit. I always enjoyed the original cast, but I am probably Gil's biggest fan and could have never visualized any one other than Peterson in that role a superb choice CBS. I will miss him as a regular and I hope he visits often. Maybe he can seek out Warrick's son and possibly adopt him and continue to develop life with Sara. A family developing is a perfect growth opportunity that would not wither.

Nance Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 11:18 AM EST

The main reason I even started watching the show was because of William Peterson - Ill try to stick with it but it will never be the same without him!

Rachael Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 07:57 AM EST

Sara and Grissom deserve to be together. I think they should be, if they make eachother happy!! They should get married though, becuz he did urpose and she did say yes. So I believe that they should!!!!

Rachael Thu, Oct 30, 2008 at 07:57 AM EST

I have been a fan since day one. Of CSI and William Petersen. I will gladly go to Chicago this fall to watch him. Grissom and Sara were made for eachother and they deserve an ending. Warrick will be missed also. I will find my Thursdays open with Mr. Petersen leaving - he IS CSI - and then with the final season of ER.
I thank both shows for such quality television.

Vance Marcum Mon, Oct 13, 2008 at 02:14 PM EST

I will have to see what the "atmosphere" of the new CSI is like before I decide whether or not I will continue to watch it. Peterson is CSI and with the loss of three charcters, I think it will be difficult for CSI to really maintain the appeal that it has had for so long.

hcctoad Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 03:11 PM EST

My mom introduced me to this show when it first came on. I have been addicted since then. I have missed important things in life just because CSI was on. While I am sad to see Sarah, Gil and Warrick leave, I do wish them all the best in what it is they decide to do. I will still watch the show and maybe I will enjoy the new characters. I am sure if they could not do a good job or they would not work out, then CBS will handle it just the way they did when they moved Melina Kanakaredes to CSI New York.

Good luck to everyone and God Bless...

Diann Fri, Oct 10, 2008 at 08:23 AM EST

I have loved CSI from the beginning,as well as CSI Miami and CSI NY. I don't think the show will ever be the same without William Petersen and Gary Dourdan. I will be very upset the day that Grissom is not there anymore,I love him. I will continue to watch as a devoted fan...but don't even think about getting rid of Marg!!!

Petersonfan Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 04:40 PM EST

CSI is the first show I ever got really involved in and had to watch each week. I have all available seasons on DVD. I think it's truly the best show. The entire cast of this show always blended so well together. I think that's what made the show the success it is. Being the CSI lover I am, I'm sure I'll try to continue to watch the show, but it won't be the same. I don't think I'll be quite as eager to rush home on Thursday nights. I love William Peterson and wish him the best of luck. Thanks for not "killing off" Grisson so at least we'll get the chance to see him again. Good luck to the whole cast. I hope this doesn't end up ruining the best show ever.

zelinske Thu, Oct 9, 2008 at 01:04 PM EST

I think I will be searching for another network to watch. I like those actors to much. I don't believe the show will make it without them . William Peterson made that show. It's to many changes!

Wed, Oct 8, 2008 at 09:54 AM EST

There is no way that adding these "new" characters is going to save this show. Letting the original cast leave and be killed off is a terrible idea that will ultimately kill the show. Sorry to see the end of this era...I loved this show!

Bob Weymouth Tue, Oct 7, 2008 at 10:29 AM EST

Lauren Lee Smith had better not take herself too seriously because she won't last to the end of the season.
Laurence Fishburne is the new male and he will also fail to go to the tenth season (if there is one).
Gimmicks will not replace Grissom, Sara nor Warrick. The show will never be the same and it will fail, fail, fail. CBS and the production team stink to high heaven on this one.
BOOOOO!!!!! HIIISSSSS!!!!!

saundra Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 08:18 PM EST

thursday nights want be the same without gil grissom and warick brown.those two characters were my favorite and they will be missed.ho[pe you can work something out and get them back. if not i will still watch my favorite show.

willett burch Sat, Sep 27, 2008 at 04:37 PM EST

I love CSI just the way it has been, now I know change is good, but this is not. Mr. Grissom if fascinating, and I don't think anyone else can take his place, not in this. I will try my best to adapt to his replacement, but, Thursday just will not be Thursday anymore for me. I knew it was coming, but now that it is here, it just breaks my heart.

lily Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 07:18 PM EST

Pleeeease...NOT Grissom! He's the only reason I watch the show....

janis Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 01:00 PM EST

I think change is good but to much change at once can cause a problem. I think the show will survive but Grissom and Warrick will definitely be missed at least by me. They are my two favorite characters in the show. I'm not a big fan of Larry but I think Kurt is a very good actor which I think would have complimented the show but we already know who has the job. I can't promise I will continue to watch but I will give it a chance.

Vicki Tue, Sep 23, 2008 at 08:58 PM EST

I would like to say that CSI has been the most entertaining show.We watched the show faithfully every week.I was devasted when warrick was shot at the end of the season.I am hoping he stays,as well as the rest.It wont be the same with ''replacements''.

Art from Buffalo Mon, Sep 22, 2008 at 07:25 PM EST

I delayed watching Star Trek: TNG because of strong feelings for the original. I have loved CSI since season 3. I have caught up on seasons 1 and 2 - thanks to reruns.

I will watch the new generation of CSI, but will definitely miss William Peterson and Jorja Fox as a tandem. I have lived life without a good supervisor for years and have wanted one just like Gil Grissom. Oh, well ... life will be different without Peterson, but isn't that what life is all about anyways. I have been watching CSI sence it started.. Its a asume show the best CSI show on the air..I wish all the team could stay..but there's no way
warick servied.. i hope billy changes his mind and stay's it wont be the same..with who ever you replace him with..I introduced my son to CSI..and he like the show so much thats what he wanted for xmas was all the dvd so he has them all...hes 15 now..and cant wait for season 9 to start.but wants everyone to stay

Juliefleurs Fri, Sep 19, 2008 at 11:20 AM EST

I love Laurence Fishburne, so I would be cool with him if you have to replace Grissom. I think CSI will not be the same, and I will be sick if Warrick leaves for good. Get him into rehab and keep him. He's too good of an actor to ditch because of his substance abuse problems. Without Billy Peterson, this show really WON'T be CSI. I enjoy Sarah and I'm glad she'll be back for some episodes. I love the Lady Heather episodes and enjoy the ones with Marg and her real-life husband. Those are always fun. He can play a sleazy lawyer so well. I'll continue to watch, if only to see what happens, but I will really be sad if Peterson and Dourdan leave. They are both irreplaceable.

I HOPE THEY ALL STAY!!!
ESPECIALLY GRISSOM

I hope they all stay

grissomfan Thu, Sep 18, 2008 at 11:00 PM EST

I think it is a mistake to let go of Grissom!
Any of them, but I want to stress that!
New people can't replace them, I hope they come back or stay, ESPECIALLY GRISSOM

Diana Wed, Sep 17, 2008 at 06:56 PM EST

I have watched CSI from the very beginning. For two reasons, William Peterson and Gary Dourdan. I knew the show would be a hit and it was. Now they are both leaving. They're departure is going to be rough on the show. Now you have the responsibility to replace these very special characters. I only ask one thing of you, when choosing replacements, please keep the serious and mature characters that Grissom and Warrick played. Sarah's character, as far as I'm concerned can go bye-bye! I didn't like her with Grissom, that was a mistake on your part. But Grissom and Warrick? They will surely be missed. They had a good connection as co-workers and as friends. And it was also nice to look at intelligent, good looking men who solved crimes and got the bad guys. If you can, go back to the first six seasons of the show. Follow there concepts, they were you best.

Cheryl Tue, Sep 16, 2008 at 03:18 PM EST

Wow! I think getting rid of Grissom and Warrick is a big mistake. Sarah could never come back and I would not miss her. "Mousy" is all I can think of to discribe her, and I think Grissom and Catherine should have made it to the sack! Grissom and Sarah was a real mismatch! I think others agree also. Losing Warrick is just as bad! He added so much recently to the shows and I was hoping that in later seasons he and Catherine would have followed thru with romance when his marraige broke up. I will continue to watch at least for a while to see where the show goes if for no other reason to get glimses of my favorite "Grissom" coming and going, after this season it most likely will be my last. This was my very favorite show too. Will watch till I see the Miniture Killer caught.

Oh Well as life has it nothing good last forever. I have been an advide CSI viewer since the beginning, it will be strange watching the show without Warrick or Peterson, really no problem with Sarah leaving, she was a bore anyway. I'm going to try to continue to view the show with an open mind, but I think you all may have SCREWED this one up.I doubt if Fishburne can bring anything to the show, but we shall see.
Just a little note to Gil and Warrick you all will be missed and good luck in your new roles whatever they may be.

Will stop watching CSI

Johanna Sat, Sep 13, 2008 at 06:02 PM EST

I think that there is no way in the world that the show will ever be as goo as it was in the 7th season. season 8 was when i believe the show started to fall apart a bit. i mean losing Sara was a tragedy but it would never make me stop watching it... and neither would losing Warrick... but now losing Grissom! i don't know what i am going to do! he is the leader of the pack, the one that all the CSIs look up to and ask for guidance. i mean sure they could learn to look up to someone else but it wouldn't be the same. they wouldn't have the same bond. i feel like this is sure to be the biggest let down of a season in the history of CSI. there will be too many new actors and that means that they will all have to learn to work together all over agian which means in some episodes it will seam awkward and the fact that the actors are acting will be more visible. but as long as there aren't any episodes like the one where hodges was making a bord game i think i will probably be ok.

Gwen White Fri, Sep 12, 2008 at 04:11 PM EST

I have watched CSI since the very beginning. I have begun to see the show loosing steam. The characters seem complacent. They don't seem to be as passonate as the CSI Miami, NY people. It has become a joke to the CSI guys. I will not miss Grissom so much as I will miss Warrick. He seemed to be the on serious one left. When the relationship started with Sara and Grissom, it made me sick. They are not believeable together. I would like to see both of them go off into the sunset. Do something with Catherine. I get the impression she could care less. It's just a job. I really hope this year is better. I don't miss CSI Miami, and CSI NY. Good Stuff. CSI, maybe this should be the last year.

Jessica Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 09:43 PM EST

I love this show, I hate to see ANY of the characters leave. But Grissom is the heart of this show, the loss of him as a character is tragic. There are so many shows out there who have actors/actresses that can so easily be replaced and overlooked, but Grissom is the brains of the operation and he is that one guy that they all look to no matter what. I truly hate to see him go after all this time :( He will be missed greatly.

Tina Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 09:19 PM EST

I have to agree with some of the comments, CSI won't be the same if the two of them leave the show. It hasn't been the same without Sarah. KEEP THEM, IT'S SUCH A GREAT SHOW!!!!AND BRING SARAH BACK PERMANENTLY. THANKS, I JUST LOVE THE SHOW.

Keesha Reese Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 06:23 PM EST

I just want to know when the new season will air? This article states "...beginning with September's season premiere..." but I just saw a preview for the premiere and it had 10.09.08 on it. Was that the DATE or a countdown???

Laurie Wed, Sep 10, 2008 at 05:48 AM EST

I watch CSI religously and am quite dissapointed to see grissom and warrick leaving as well as sarah. I will still watch the show, but whether I stick with it once they are fully gone will be decided at a later date. I think replacements can probably do a good job but it just won't be the same. I guess only time will tell.

Jason Wall Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 03:39 PM EST

For me the show was more about the cast than Just Grissom. Its sad that three central characters have left within two seasons but Lawrence Fishbone is a great actor, and we still have : NIck, Catherine, Brass, Hodges Greg, Wendy, David, the Coroner and now Riley. I say get Hodges and Wendy on the field so giving them characterization wont take very long.

Look at shows like ER and Lost. They looses characters left and right. Even Scrubs is losing Zach Braff pretty soon.

i say because this show is one of the most watched and highly praised and well written, we will barley feel the missing characters after five episodes. This show could last another three to four seasons as long as the stories are good.

Mary Gilbert Sun, Sep 7, 2008 at 01:59 PM EST

Here are my thoughts:
-- Warrick is a great character and Gary did a great job portraying him. I will be sad to see him go. But I won't stop watching the show.
-- Never liked Sara, so I'm pretty sure a new actor can fill her position, no problem.
-- William Petersen (Grissom) will be missed as a character, but I’m sure he can bring something to the table in an executive roll.
--This new professor turned CSI character sounds pretty cool, I think I'll enjoy watching him.
-- The description of the Riley Adams character sounds like good entertainment. Finally, someone with a sense of humor!
--More on-screen time for Lab Rat Wendy, sounds good, too. Maybe she and Nick can hook up.
--In general, I think the show needs a little "shake-up", it's getting too predictable.

Ashley Thu, Sep 4, 2008 at 01:47 PM EST

I sooo hope that Warrick,Sara and Grissom doesn't leave. CSI will not be the same without them. Very sad day if they do leave! :(

so Tue, Sep 2, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

I'll watch no more csi las vegas if Grissom, Sara And Worrik leave forever...I'll watch something else. Good luck

DaniGirl Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 08:44 PM EST

Oh I hate change....WHY?! WHY?! WHY?! I am going to give it a chance, but I am NOT at all comfortable with it. At least Nick is still there....love him!

catherine Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 01:54 PM EST

C.S.I.has been a good show to watch I enjoyed grissom acting. but I like Nick,if you have to make changes I'll still be their but I'd enjoy it more with the change with Kurt Russell he has nice dimples..

CLau Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 02:47 AM EST

CSI won't be the same without Grissom... it is his show !!! Even though, I am excited to see Laurance Fishborn coming to the show or he may be replacing Grissom, it just not the same without Grissom. I hope I can continue to support the show and I want to because i don't like to "other" CSI shows.

David Mon, Sep 1, 2008 at 12:47 AM EST

This sad news - the show is the interaction and weaving between all of the characters. I always enjoyed the conversations and wit between Grissom, Brass and Doc Robbins. While I didn't like it when Sara left, I could accept it. Now to hear Warrick & Grissom are leaving - CSI will never be the same. Even when Peterson did the theatre and Keppler "filled in", or when they split the team up, it wasn't the same. The show is the original cast - add a few more like Hodges, but the original cast is CSI. Guess I'll have to keep watching the reruns on Spike and find something else during that time slot.

Sat, Aug 30, 2008 at 03:23 PM EST

I am sad to see both Grissom and Warrick leave the show. At the end of last season I thought Warrick wasn't dead and by the previews it appears he isn't, at least yet. I hope they let him live and be able to come back at some point when he gets his personal problems under control. I was shocked to hear that Grissom was leaving as he is the central character of that show. I am doubtful as to the success of the show in the future without 3 central characters.

L8ZER Fri, Aug 29, 2008 at 04:03 PM EST

This really is SAD news. It was bad enough loosing Sara (Jorja Fox), then Warrick (Gary Dourdan) and now Grissom (William Petersen)? I did not particularly like the show when Grissom was gone and Keppler (Liev Schreiber) filled in.

Cathy Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 08:51 PM EST

Hate to see Billy Peterson go. If you don't think Kurt Russell can handle this, you need to watch more of his movies. He is very under-rated. He has so much intensity!

Patricia Murray Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 03:28 PM EST

I guess I will have to find another favorite show. Without William Petersen you don't have a show. He is the only reason I watch. The rest aren't bad but William Petersen makes the show. But then I have been a fan of his for some time.

de Gavph Mon, Aug 25, 2008 at 12:35 PM EST

Ah....I was a huge fan of Grissom...I used to be a Miami junky but it got way too....you know...-_-;; Anyway.. it's a shame the most loved characters are leaving...Grissom was really the light and life of the show. But I'd still give the new guys a chance...Look at The Dark Knight... Everybody was skeptical about Heath Ledger playing the Joker... Everybody said that he would never be as good as Jack Nicholson... But there you are...

matt Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 07:07 PM EST

dont let grissom leave. without him the show ends.

simone Fri, Aug 22, 2008 at 02:31 AM EST

i cant believe their putting fishburn in there.i dont like him, and never have. that show we be down the tube in no time.whos stupid choice was that.well i wont be watching it anymore and it wont last long.to bad, it was my favorite show.kurt russell would have been better!!! anyone besides fishface, yuk

Ann Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 05:09 PM EST

I am totally bummed out that Sara and Grissom are leaving after Warrick was killed off. I think Lawrence Fishburn
is absolutely wrong for the show and unless the replacements can give some absolutely overpowering performances I will probably be channel surfing.

Terri T. Wed, Aug 20, 2008 at 07:08 AM EST

I will miss Billy Petersen very much. Like most of his fans I too think he makes the show..he is the head of his little family. but I truly think LF is the best choice you could have made to replace him! I enjoy watching his talent at work as much as I like watching Billy Petersen! Good luck to all of the CSI cast and crew this season!! I'll be watching to see how it goes. T.

gemma Tue, Aug 19, 2008 at 09:40 PM EST

I cannot believe you are allowing this to happen! Grissom is the central force that keeps the show alive. I remember when Grissom went on his "sabbatical" and it was awful. Please bring Grissom and Warrick back. Please!!!!

Karen Mon, Aug 18, 2008 at 10:07 PM EST

Grissom is the heart of CSI. All things have revolved around him and with his departure, the show loses too much. It was the same with Stargate SG1- Once Richard Dean Anderson left, the show slowly slide into oblivion.
