This Just In: Another '90210' Alum Heads For the 'Hills'

90210

Since Shannen, Jennie, Tori and even Nat have all agreed to appear on the new 90210, at least one more comeback seemed inevitable. Are you with me here? The show just wouldn't have been the same without her.

No, not Gabrielle Carteris!

Um, no, not Tiffani Thiessen, either.

Or Kathleen Robertson, Vanessa Marcil or Lindsay Price.

It's Ann Gillespie!

(Crickets)

She played Kelly's Mommie Dearest, Jackie Taylor, remember? She married (and divorced) David's dad, Mel, and had a daughter, Erin, with him. Odd then that the redo's resident vixen, whose surname and nickname is Silver, is really named Daphne, not Erin. (Update: I've just been informed that the character's name was changed to Erin months ago, so ignore that bit about Daphne. All is right with the world!) Regardless, sources confirm to me semi-exclusively that Gillespie is on board for at least one episode.

So what do you think -- are you looking forward to more mother/daughter showdowns between Jackie and Kelly? Or are you still holding out for a return by Carol Potter? Sound off below! (Additional reporting by Andy Patrick)

". . . but a good part of it was due to Shannon leaving the show."

Do you have a source that proves this to be a fact?

Creatively, her material was not as interesting after they separated her from Luke, so I'm not so sure how it could've made much difference. At any rate, the fact that the show went on, with or without her, is proof that more people were '90210' fans than mere Brenda fans.

And again, I like Brenda and Shannen too, but I'm among those who were fans of the entire show first and foremost.

why dont they get rid of the new cast and just call this 90210 part 2 the middle age years it seems that all we here about is the cast members from the original show but what about the new cast i thought it was cool that they at first were going to have kelly come back but after donna brenda nat and now kellys mom jackie are coming back people are going to think that its going the old chactors is the show its got a new cast remeber

Brian Fri, Jul 25, 2008 at 11:06 AM EST

Sure she was only on the show for the first four seasons. Yes the show went on for six seasons following her departure...but the ratings also went down following her departure. It certainly didn't have to do entirely with her departure (mostly due to the fact that the show became a more of a primetime soap opera with hard to believe story lines) but a good part of it was due to Shannon leaving the show.

"plus, i dont get all the excitement about shannen. she does not define 90210. she was on for 4 years. there were 6 more years without her, which means she wasn't even on it for half its run. there is so much more to the show beyond her."

Completely agree with this. I generally liked Brenda/Shannen too, but some of her admirers exaggerate. Without Dylan, her final stories weren't really anything special. The fact is the show lasted longer without her than with her. It'll be interesting to see her again to see if she lives up to the praise her fans tend to heap.

Apart from that, this is great news. I'm really looking forward to seeing Jackie again, and watching her interact with Kelly. Now if we could just get Jason/Brandon to come back...

i know things can change in 8 years, i guess i think of series finale being the end and youre supposed to believe that's how things stay. plus, i dont get all the excitement about shannen. she does not define 90210. she was on for 4 years. there were 6 more years without her, which means she wasn't even on it for half its run. there is so much more to the show beyond her.

JeniLee Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

90210grl...not all fans were completely happy with the ending....many Brandon/Kelly and Brenda/Dylan fans including myself were not happy with Kelly and Dylan ending up together. I would looooove to see them split up again haha

PGP Thu, Jul 24, 2008 at 10:08 AM EST

I don't know if I will watch this show all the way through, but I will probably check it out! I love that Jennie Garth is on board, could care less about Shannen or Tori, but Theissen's Valarie will seal the deal for me!!!!

jeb Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 07:12 PM EST

Cool, I liked her anyway.

At first i was a little skeptical about the idea of a "90210" update but from all of the attention that it's getting along with casting original cast members in cameos, I will definitely give the show a shot. Now, with most of the gals signed on to appear (even Shannon Doherty thank you!) it's the guys' turn to do the same. Remember, this is a show with different characters and story-lines so original characters will just further along new story-lines with the new characters. Jason, Luke, Brian and Ian (hopefully he'll consider at least) should re-think about their decisions about appearing on the show. That would be a real treat for the fans if they comeback at least for a hot minute. One thing that I would like to see is a scene where the original 8 (die hard fans, I'm not including Jim & Cindy Walsh which obviously would be 10) are having dinner together. Now, that would be something to see during sweeps month. CW consider that! For us fans who watched for the 10 year run.

Kay Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

I have a feeling that David will be back eventually. That is, if the show doesn't bomb out completely in the first couple of months.

To90210grl Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 12:31 PM EST

They can easily bring back Donna without David by just not having him in scenes with her. It's not like they have to be attached at the hip to supposedly be married. Also Dylan won't likely be back but technically he could be referred to as Brenda's husband. Just because he ended up with Kelly 8 years ago doesn't mean that it lasted.

JV Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 10:43 AM EST

Rebekah, I don't believe anyone's answered your question yet.

Tori was originally rumored for the premiere, but now will not be... which is probably why you heard she wasn't going to be on it. However, right now the plans are to have her be on the show on a recurring basis starting later in the season. Both parties still seem interested, just that Tori is more focused on motherhood etc right now.

90210grl Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 09:32 AM EST

Dylan can't come back married to Brenda. When the show ended, Kelly and Dylan finally got back together. And how do they bring back Donna without David? Why ruin the storylines of the original? Fans were happy with he ending. Why disrespect them?

filmboymichael Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 08:54 AM EST

I'm totally in if they bring back Emily Valentine....at least for a four episode arc!

roo bear Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:51 PM EST

What about Hillary Swank? She was Steve's girlfriend for awhile.

Sina Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:29 PM EST

It would make sense for Erin to be on the show. She would be about 17 right now. I know Steve's daughter would be too young to be on the show but at least having half Jewish Erin on the show will help with the diversity.

Rebekah Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 07:34 PM EST

I had heard Tori Spelling was not coming back. Is this true or not? I'm still holding out for Luke Perry!!!

A gorgeous new talent from TYLER'S RIDE will be joining 90210 on Sept. 2nd. Check out TYLER'S RIDE and see Natalie Wachen aka LAUREN for yourself!!!

Jesse Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 05:34 PM EST

I actually had a Jackie Taylor obsession ever since the infamous mother/daughter fashion show with Mrs. Walsh finding her cracked out in the bathroom. Jackie Taylor evolved into a good mother to Kelly by show's end, some 10 years later. I'm actually excited for the return of Ann Gillespie! Bring on more Jackie Taylor! :)

Jill Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 04:07 PM EST

This is amazing! I love that they are incorporating Erin into the show. I would like to see some of the boys back though!

Eli Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 03:49 PM EST

a new 90210 sounded great, but this just sounds like the old 90210, which if i remembered well I stopped watching. Altogether watching, because i grew to dislike the characters, why would i want to re-watch them again. something new please, cause I'm bored now.

Dylan Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

Brian Austin Green will never come back. I don't think Luke Perry or Jason Priestly will either. I am just glad they brought the people back who would go. I loved that show. I will watch the new one now, but I wouldn't have before. I'm really too old at 36, but like I said, LOVED THE SHOW! I wondered why it wasn't a show about Erin, and Andrea's kids, but now it seems I had nothing to wonder about.

galladew Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 03:14 PM EST

Interesting Silver's going to be mini Kelly. Annie's Brenda with her acting aspirations. If this is anything like the original, it'll be Shut up kelly and let's see more of Brenda! Annie's not as innocent as she looks methinks.

SUNSHINE Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

what they should do is have them all back as parents or something of that sort and have dylan be married to brenda then kelly pops in the picture again because of Erin and the drama then begins and never ends with the famous triangle! i want copyrights to this if it actually happens people!!!

Kevin Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:20 PM EST

At first thought, the idea of re-creating 90's Gold seemed like a good idea, it just keeps getting worse. Whenever I think back to the days of 90210, the very last person I would think of is Anne Gillespie. Wait, didn't Elise Donovan guest on a few episodes as well? Maybe she should come back......what about Brandon's crazy ex-girlfriend? If the show doesn't include all characters, then it's just a waste of time. I see now why they waited until Aaron Spelling was dead to bring this back- he would have NEVER authorized a half-attempt like this.

Mikey Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:07 PM EST

More mother/daughter fashion shows!

Mags Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 12:02 PM EST

I'm waiting with bated breath for the big Matthew Laurance announcement. Can't have Jackie without Mel.

sami roberts Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:57 AM EST

I want to see David back if Donna is popping in!! Glad they are making it Erin!! That gives a real connection to the original 90210. I loved the original and will check out the 90210, even though I may decide it's too young for me now :-)

Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

without Gabrielle it won't be the same!

JV Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:22 AM EST

Gus, judging from the name changing to Erin, it does seem like one of the main characters will be Kelly's half-sister, though I'm not sure if this has been officially confirmed

Gus Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:14 AM EST

I guess I still don't understand. Is Kelly's little sister a character on the show, or what?

JV Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 11:02 AM EST

Um, I read the entire article, and it has been updated to read "semi-exclusively," but simply said "exclusively" at the time of my original posting. Perhaps you (ToJV) aren't familiar with the journalistic concept of "exclusive" meaning "a news story at first released to or reported by only ONE source"

It really was an innocent question as I'm sure Ausiello's sources did lead him to believe it was an exclusive (and ditto for Korbi)... just thought he might to check with his sources about that so his journalistic integrity isn't compromised ;)

Jess Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:37 AM EST

I'm definitely going to sample the new 90210.

To JV Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 10:13 AM EST

"How can you and Korbi at Zap2It both have this same info exclusively?"

This would fit into the scoop category not the exclusive news. Do you always read just half sentences? :)

bradywrites Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:40 AM EST

How sad is it that when I saw the name Ann Gillespie I knew instantly it was Kelly's mother before I even read further down? I kind of suffered from a 90210-bsession. I probably should have sought medical help.

Joe Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:26 AM EST

I've been saying since day one the show should use Erin as the hook for the spin-off. Are you sure they haven't changed Daphne to Erin??

JV Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:06 AM EST

How can you and Korbi at Zap2It both have this same info exclusively?

Phil Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 08:55 AM EST

Is it too late to change Daphne to Erin? They have Erin's sister and mother on the show and decided to create a "Silver" character, it just doesn't make sense that she's not Erin.
