'24' Exclusive: Chloe (Temporarily) Clocks Out!

Jul 3, 2008, 11:07 AM | by Michael Ausiello

Categories: 24

Chloemorris_l With Mary Lynn Rajskub about to give birth in real life any day, 24 fans are wondering who'll replace Chloe as Jack's go-to geek. Well, they can stop wondering: Sources confirm to me exclusively that she'll be relieved by none other than the perpetually pouty computer whiz's ex, Morris O'Brian.

Though the slippery hacker won't make his comeback in fall's two-hour teaser "prequel," portrayer Carlo Rota has just signed on to appear in a handful of episodes, starting around the midday point after January's official premiere. How will the changeover take place?

Spoiler alert -- don't say I didn't warn you!

I hear that an emergency involving Chloe's now-4-year-old spawn causes her to take off for a few hours (i.e. episodes), prompting her (possible) babydaddy to step in. All of which sounds OK to me, so long as Chloe's kid isn't being menaced by a cougar. Been there, done that, don't wanna go there again.

So what do you think? Will you be glad to see Morris again? Or did the lot of him that we got last season go quite far enough? Let loose with your comments below!

24 will not be complete without CHLOE.. She's always been a part of JACK's life. I am really hoping to see characters from previous season. I love Bill Buchanan, and i wonder what happened to AUDREY RAINES? I also hope that KIM BAUER will have a big role.Im happy about TONY ALMEIDA being alive regardless if he is villain or not .Its kinda confusing on how he manage to be alive again but nevertheless whats important is he's back with Jack! and btw the president of USA is a woman??? oh well I just wish that there would be a "comeback" for Wayne Palmer since David is gone... just cant wait for the season 7! I am forever in love with jack bauer!

It's been very interesting reading all the comments. I am a dedicated FAN of 24 and look forward to its return. I watch constantly my DVDs of Seasons 1-4 and my VCR tapes of Seasons 5 and 6. When I have extra funds, I plan on buying DVDs of 5/6...I really look forward to "24" and Keifer's return, with Bill, Chloe and, yes, MORRIS. I thought their 'togetherness' was good script...and, yes, Season 6 could have been better...but it was interesting...I think Season 5's characters should have been continued more on Season 6...Let me tell you all, I am a 75 year old GRAMMA (young at heart) and totally fell in love with the show..but, I do, however, close my eyes at some scenes. I hope I'm around for all the future seasons of "24" and I pray Keifer is well. I so admired the stance he took when he realized his recent mishap. 24, please update us in this coming season as to what/where some of our favs are like, KIM, AARON, etc.!!

jones Wed, Jul 23, 2008 at 10:19 PM EST

i flip through the channels every night to see if any episode of 24 is on. its the greatest show ever made. as long as chloe comes back morris will suffice as her replacement.

what would be nice is to bring back kim!

Africa Tue, Jul 22, 2008 at 09:37 AM EST

I think Morris is a good choice to replace Chloe as long as she is expected to return. 24 without Chloe is incomplete! Please dp not bring Tony from the dead! I love Bill Buchanan. 24 is the best thing that ever happened to TV. Please come back we are suffering with nothing to watch on TV.

vivi Mon, Jul 14, 2008 at 01:03 PM EST

Comfort in SYTYCD must have very high connections. Why not bring a Guy back as Nigel said they would really have liked to send home two girls and keep all the Guys. Men do dance together you know.

kathyj Tue, Jul 8, 2008 at 12:58 PM EST

chloe rocks. morris ok just til ml comes back!!!!!!

Corrine Sun, Jul 6, 2008 at 10:58 PM EST

hang on, didn't tony literally DIE IN JACK'S ARMS a few seasons ago??? i used to be the biggest fan of this show, now its become way too predictable (how many moles can get into CTU?) AND unrealistic. Way to jump the tank 24.

Earl Sun, Jul 6, 2008 at 09:13 PM EST

I didn't hate that notorious last season. Sure, it was contrived, even by 24 standards, but there was some good stuff, a lot of it due to the always brilliant Peter MacNicol.

But I can't say I'm especially excited about another season now. The coolness of having Tony back, hampered by the fact he's gone bad.

I'd be more thrilled by a spin off starring my 24 man-crushes Bill and Aaron Pierce! And is there anyway to get Milo back from the dead?

marc604 Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 07:14 PM EST

Welcome to ew, Mike! We're facebook friends, in case you didn't know ;)

Would Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 05:33 PM EST

Any government agency really be allowed to hire Morris back after his major screw up last season? Didn't he help kill like 1,000 people when he gave in to the terrorists? Wouldnt he be fired and blacklisted?

july4 Sat, Jul 5, 2008 at 08:57 AM EST

Ugh. I can't stand Morris. Last season was so disappointing, and now having this Morris back, I'll probably quit watching.

Chloe was the best character on that show.

Suzuki Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 10:16 PM EST

I love Morris. He always brought levity to a scene. And, if the characters never eat, sleep or go to the bathroom, the audience needs some laughs! I think the reason Carlo isn't in the two hour movie is because he is currently shooting Little Mosque on the Prairie. Does this even air in the US?

STEPHEN CHINN Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 06:58 PM EST

Well, everything considered I think Morris is a good choice! We're familiar with him, & he's got a very mysterious air about him. Maybe the show can develop a storyline around him. Congratulations! Mary Lynne, you're the best!

Hubert Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 04:18 PM EST

Morris? Bah... Dude can't even take a drill to the shoulder without spilling all the beans.

dana Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 01:25 PM EST

it's ok, but with the condition of bringing chloe back, nobody can back up jack like chloe!

dana Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

Well I dont care whether you like him or not so TOO BAD to you mate!and who is "chlooe" and what does "irrepleaceble" mean, thats not even a word dude.

Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 12:55 PM EST

oh no, not again I have just read your comment. Dont be mean just because you dont like something doesnt give you the right to deprive everyone who loves the show, and there are lots of us trust me. OK you don't like it, fine don't watch it but don't demand its killed off just because youre not happy. selfish or what?

rodrigo Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 12:52 PM EST

too bad! I dont like him. Chlooe is irrepleaceble

24rocks Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 12:49 PM EST

24 is brilliant. Morris is funny I'm glad to see him back but will miss good old Chloe. Is it November yet. Missing the lovely Kiefer like crazy

Mike Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 12:21 PM EST

I would love to see Morris back. I thinkhe add a lot of energy to 24.

24bottlesofbeer Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

kill of kim bauer character

Niamh Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 09:48 AM EST

I don't mind Morris filling in for Chloe I quite like him but I will miss Chloe her character is fantastic. Good luck MLR hope everything goes ok. Cant wait for 24 to return it is by far the best thing on TV. Love Kiefer as Jack Bauer he's amazing

rockgolf Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 08:40 AM EST

Carlo Rota back on 24? uh-oh, what does this mean for "Little Mosque on the Prarie"?

oh no, not again! Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 04:42 AM EST

If ever there was a television show that needed a mercy killing, 24 is it. Last season was so horrific, that all it needed was a canned laugh track. Someone please euthanize 24 and spare devoted viewers the torture of watching it...Lets here it for a mercy killing!!

WEARY Fri, Jul 4, 2008 at 04:32 AM EST

24 was such a disappointment last season. The series has gotten so repetitive. How much longer are they going to milk this "played out" cow?

Robin Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 09:18 PM EST

I'm OK with Morris taking over for Chloe--as long as it's just on a temporary basis. I've enjoyed Carlo Rota's performances ever since he was in the television series "La Femme Nikita" (talk about paranoia taken to the nth degree!). I just hope that "24" can return to its former glorious self--the 2006-2007 series was dreadful!

Jen in WI Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 09:01 PM EST

To all the Chloe haters: you're not supposed to actually 'like' her--she embodies the typical techie that has serious social skills issues. Rigid, hard time getting along with others, misses nuances, etc.
I like Morris, Kim not so much.

Sodienye Abusi Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 07:31 PM EST

I don't think she is replaceable, i like especially the looks, expression on her face when she is breaking protocals. For someone like Jack to still be Jack i still believe Chloe should be there to break protocals.

Susan Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 06:48 PM EST

Morris is fine for an hour or so, but Please please, give us Chloe back, the looks on her face are priceless, and she is devoted to Jack and we need her!!!! We miss her! 24 - I can't wait for the next day! Go Kiefer!

ontariofarmgirl Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 06:40 PM EST

Not Morris again. Carlo Rota is a good actor but that character was dreadful. I want my girl back, not that whiny mofo Morris. I wish they'd killed him off. I'll still be watching the show, even if he's on it-this has gone on long enough, I need my Jack Bauer power hour, stat!

Trish Rosenthall Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 06:40 PM EST

LOL, Michael! "Menaced by a cougar!" I thought only David Cook had to worry about cougars. Who knew?

I'm find with ex-Mr. Cloe filling in. Just don't bring Kim back--ever!

t3hdow Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 06:25 PM EST

To WildeCAT:
Logan isn't officially dead. The show never addressed what happened to him or Wayne Palmer after they both got knocked out. The writers just left it hanging. It was a disservice to both character but especially Logan. He's not officially dead though.
To Nick:
Where were you during Lost season 4? After the amazing season 3 finale, the show reinvented itself and gave a clear forward direction for the series. You obviously don't watch Lost enough to make that ignorant comment.

Anyway, season 6 was indeed awful and I hated how Morris and Chloe interacted during the slower scenes, but I'm willing to give his character (and the show) a second chance. He's a well written character but didn't have much to do besides bicker with Chloe, and it wasn't nearly as enthralling compared to Edgar and her. If he's still irritating, at least Chloe won't be MIA too long.

okiegirl Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 05:54 PM EST

Love Chloe, & Morris is an interesting complication, but just give me Jack & the ticking clock back! I would like to see more of Jack's daughter -- like in season 1. She is Jack's true Achille's heel & emotional center! The real problem last year was beginning with a bomb drop in LA when that event is what the whole season should have been building towards. What a cliffhanger that could have been!

JN Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 05:19 PM EST

I'm OK with Morris but will look forward to Cloe's return. No one like Cloe. Also, 24 at it's worse is still far better than any of the other crap on the tube.

C C Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 04:23 PM EST

Yes, they're picking up where they left off when the writer's strike hit. They had about 8 episodes in the can. If SAG strikes in the next month, they'll have about 14-16 episodes done, plus the two-hour prequel. And if what I've read is correct, they went back and tweaked the first 8 episodes a bit to help the continuity.

Joe Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 04:21 PM EST

Oh God, this show should have ended after season 5. Last season wasn't just "less-than-perfect." It was awful, nearly unwatchable at times. And we're supposed to have faith that it will rebound when the best thing they can come up with is Tony coming back from the dead as a (suddenly) bad guy? I've never seen a show fall so hard so fast. Please put it out of its misery.

DETROIT Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:46 PM EST

Does anyone know what will become of the episodes that were shot for last season that never aired because of the writer's strike? Are they continuing where they left off?
If so, good luck having everyone look the same a year later on what is supposed to be the same day.

Barry Stinson Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:21 PM EST

I'm okay with Morris - Can't expect Chloe to juggle her pregnancy with 24 - and like many others, can't wait for the season to begin - Really tired of the reality rubbish and other brain-numbing fare.

Barry Stinson Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:21 PM EST

Josh M Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:19 PM EST

Oh, God. How many times do "annoying family members with horrible timing" show up on this show? The mentally handicapped daughter? Sean Astin's, what, sister? Last season was absolutely putrid television, and this seems like more of the same. At least we have the first few seasons to look back on.

pinkey Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:10 PM EST

I really liked Morris and loved the chemistry between them.. I for one will be glad to see him again. I don't care who is on there as long as we have Jack back...

Nicole Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 03:09 PM EST

As long as Chloe comes back, I guess I can tolerate Morris, but please let it be the Chloe we all (most of us) know and love and not the Pod Chloe of Day 6.

Missy Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 02:45 PM EST

I can't wait until 24 starts. I liked Morris but I love Chloe and her stoic pouty mouth!

Nick Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 02:35 PM EST

I'm sick of hearing how "bad" 24 has been lately. It had 1 less-than-perfect season. At least it MOVES unlike LOST

Jackie Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 02:18 PM EST

Unless something has changed very recently, "24" is only guaranteed through season 8. Kiefer Sutherland signed on for 3 more seasons back in season 5 (seasons 6, 7 and 8) and "24" was renewed for two seasons last year (seasons 7 and 8). I would love to see it continue forever, but I suspect that season 8 will be the last.

Ugh ! Not Morris. Had waaay too much of him last season.

Elle Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 01:36 PM EST

Although I like Morris, I love Chloe, but I guess it's pretty unrealistic to expect actress Mary Lynn Rajskub to pop her baby out and hightail it back to set the next day, so I can make do with Morris.

Mary in TX Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 01:24 PM EST

I like Morris, so that's fine with me. Any news on if President Palmer II (Wayne) survived? I know he's not prez anymore, but I'm just curious... Maybe they'll address it in the first episode.

Paul Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 01:14 PM EST

Alan, I think Little Mosque is done filming by the time most U.S. series begin filming, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Alan Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:26 PM EST

I wonder how`s he`s going to juggle this and Little Mosque on the Prairie

KateDFW Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

I like Morris and I am totally OK with him filling in for Chloe. At least it isn't Kim filling in for her! Just bring Chloe back tough, show wouldn't be the same without her. Her reaction to Edgar's death in S5 is reason enough to bring her back!

rick Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:24 PM EST

I for one would want them to make Chloe's departure permanent. There is no more overrated character on TV. But then I guess hooking up with the producers nephew has it's priveliges.

Drew Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:23 PM EST

I fear that 24 will never be the same without Palmer or Logan.

And how will Season 7 start? Is Tony still the bad guy or have they scrapped that idea?

Ryan Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:16 PM EST

A few episodes without Chloe is bad enough! Morris will do in a pinch but 24 without Chloe simply wouldn't be worth watching.

Prplelah Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 12:05 PM EST

I love Chloe and I love Morris, but together, they're even better! Hopefully, Morris will stick around when Chloe gets back.

JoeCJ Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Ooops! Sorry for the double post! But ya gotta understand, Chloe..never mind, you get the point.....

JoeCJ Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 11:27 AM EST

Yes! As someone who can't stand Chloe, I am stoked that 24 will be spared her whining and pouting for at least a few episodes. Don't hurry back!

JoeC Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 11:26 AM EST

Yes! As someone who can't stand Chloe, this is great news! At least I'll be spared her whining and pouting for a few episodes. Maybe longer? No Chloe is just what 24 needs....

Thom Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 11:13 AM EST

I'm just glad it's temporary. Let's hope...Mo is good but Chloe is the bomb!!!

Elizabeth Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 11:05 AM EST

I'm cool with Morris helping out Team O'Brien - as long as they don't bring Edgar back from the dead - Tony is going to be enough - and not Kim!

WildKAT Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 10:56 AM EST

Well, I like Carlo Rota. He was great in La Femme Nikita's blazing 4 year run back in the late 90s. He is an excellent actor and I hope he gets to show more of his chops. I love Mary Lynn Rajskub and her snarky scenes. I don't think 24 has gotten "real bad" at all. It has gone through various story arcs and progressions that keep it fresh. Even through a few seasons with cougar bait, etc. The ratings are always high, Kiefer has won an Emmy and the show has won awards. It is quality TV in the wasteland of brain dead crud like Desperate Dimwits, Grays Asininity, and other barf inducing nitwittery slop. I can't wait for the season to start. If the Hollywood Reporter is true there should be another three seasons of 24 after this coming one. I just wish they hadn't killed off Gregory Itzen who was the best president they ever had on the show. I also will miss the silver fox James Morrison. Reports said that CTU was disbanded. Doesn't sound like it though with this story.

Anthony Thu, Jul 3, 2008 at 10:34 AM EST

"24" has gotten really bad lately....I miss the good ole days!!
