Exclusive: NBC Primetime Looking Rosie (O'Donnell)

Forget the N-word. If you really want to see Elisabeth Hasselbeck cry,
try uttering the R-word — especially in this next context.

Multiple sources confirm to me exclusively that Hasselbeck’s former View
nemesis, Rosie O’Donnell, is in active talks with NBC to return to
television with her own weekly primetime variety show.

The news comes just as the Peacock is said to be courting exiting
Tonight Show host Jay Leno for a similar gig. It’s possible O’Donnell’s
series would be a fallback in case Leno defects to ABC after his
late-night reign ends next year (as many expect he will). NBC was unavailable for comment.

The possible NBC-O’Donnell hook-up is particularly ironic in light of
the fact that less than a year ago the network’s cable news arm, MSNBC,
was close to giving the Koosh Ball-lovin’ funny lady her own one-hour
showcase. But when word of the discussions leaked out before the ink
was dry, O’Donnell claimed the network “panicked” and the deal went
south.

O’Donnell’s rep declined to comment, but an insider with knowledge of
the Peacock negotiations tells me that NBC isn’t the only major network
making a play for the ex-View moderator. CBS is (or was) also said to
be interested in giving the ratings magnet her own series, but at this
point, NBC is said to have the upper hand.

My take: This is great news for O’Donnell, who’s getting the biggest
platform of her career, and NBC, which could certainly use some of her
ratings mojo. The average viewer also makes out pretty good, because
we’d (presumably) get O’Donnell doing what she does best: making us laugh.

Ugh, I really didn’t want to be seeing her on my TV again. She can be funny, but sooner or later she ALWAYS becomes annoying about something. It’s a certainty.

  • Freddie

I was just thinking the other day (after seeing her kicking butt and taking names on Million-Dollar Password) that I missed seeing Rosie on TV.
Clearly, not everyone’s a fan. But I am.

  • John

I will follow Rosie wherever she may go! Although I wish the show with MSNBC worked out.
Hey does anyone know where that picture above is from?? It looks like she’s on this season’s The View set!! Did I miss her return to The View??

  • Mario

matt, you ignorant C.unt… if you don’t want to see her on TV, then change the channel.. it’s that simple, you idiot.
Unless of course you’re of the right wing variety, in which case it makes sense that you’d want your values, morals and ideals pushed on everyone else while you refuse to follow your own guidelines… typical.

  • Josh

Jeez, Mario. How ’bout you take it down a notch or two? Is Matt’s (pretty vaild) complaint worth the c-bomb? And your second sentence is the reason liberals are just as stereotyped as conservatives.
That being said, good for Rosie. I don’t like her and won’t watch the show, but there are plenty of people out there who like her particular brand of craziness.

I miss the Rosie show, she had the best connection with celebs, so I will be happy to have her back.

  • Mario

Josh, how about you stop sticking your nose in other people’s business/arguments? The C-bomb.. you sound so stupid saying that “C.unt” is a word.. deal with it. Here’s a suggestion, stop being so prudish. This is why we’re hated all over the world, for always sticking our noses where it doesn’t belong and pushing our ideals onto others, if you don’t like my posts.. then skip over them, jackass.

  • Stacey

I hope this works out. I love Rosie and a weekly variety show would just the right venue for her. She grew up on Carol Burnett and the like.
I’ve always admired Rosie’s passion and outspoken nature. I also think she is one of the funniest people on the planet.

  • m

you couldn’t pay me to watch another rosie show

  • av

Ugh, I think I just vomited in my mouth a little…

as long as Rosie doesnt get political she will do fantastic. her politics were the downfall of her daily talk show years ago, (remember Tom Selleck anyone?) and for her removal from The View. I love Rosie… when she’s just koosh-throwing, joke-making Rosie. Leave the politics at home and she’s sure to be a success.

Please say it isn’t so! I definitely won’t be watching.

  • Michael

Ha! The first poster saying as long as Rosie doesn’t talk about politics she’ll be fine. While we’re at it,that pesky sun needs to stop shining. Don’t get me wrong, I love the color yellow, it’s the heat I can’t take. *eye roll*

  • JoeyfromVA

I hope this is true! I would love to see her on t.v. again!

  • Ryan

TV has been missing a good comedy variety show in prime time for years now. What if Rosie brought about the next generation of the Carol Burnett Show? What if she gave a spotlight to new comedians, singers and Broadway shows? This could be good.

    Mario-
Wouldn’t it be nicer to just post a comment without all the inappropiate language? You certainly have a right to your opinion but others have just as much right to not read such a display. Its all about respecting one another and treating others as you would want to be treated.

  • Lindsay

Darn…I was enjoying television so much without her big mouth.

  • CJ

Rosie will NEVER be the next Carol Burnett! Never, ever, ever. Carol Burnett is one classy lady. Rosie is too obnoxious and loud-mouthed.

  • Dana

Rosie is a beast, she does not know when to keep her mouth shut. I would never watch anything she is associated with she is a vile woman

  • Annie

NBC has really hit rock bottom this time.

  • drea

I’m excited! Rosie does a good job finding new talent and showcasing. She’s such an advocate for the Arts and kids that wouldn’t normally get a chance to show their “stuff”. I, for one, admire her for voicing her political and social/moral views. After all, everyone, the show was called “THE VIEW” and her previous show was called “THE ROSIE O’DONNELL SHOW”. Know what I mean?

  • Jo

I hope this works out. I would love to see her on tv again and a variety show would be perfect for her!!

  • TV Gord

OhMG, YES!!!! I have always missed the heydey of The Carol Burnett Show and if anyone could bring that back with a new 21st century edge, it’s Rosie! I love the idea so much, I’m already ready to program my DVR!
People seem to think Rosie’s only reason for being is to espouse her left-wing agenda. That’s distorted and not true at all. She has shown time and time again that she has so much more in her crayon box, but everyone thinks of the Rosie/Elisabeth dust-up when they think of Rosie now. (And, for the record, I sided with Elisabeth in that confrontation.
Regardless of Rosie’s leanings, she is a genuine and entertaining person, and NBC would be lucky to have her on board. (Frankly, I thought this is what Leno would end up doing for NBC, but obviously, he is too lunk-headed to see the benefits of bowing out gracefully into a better gig.

  • Luigi

Sounds like Mario hasn’t gotten laid in a long, long time. Too bad his precious Rosie is both a lesbian AND a pig.
Mario, to remedy you vehement hostility I recommend a bong hit, lobotomy, and/or a small-caliber pistol shot to your left eye socket.
And thanks for the lesson on world politics. LOOK OUT, POSTERS — Mario is apparently the only educated voice in this entire society, so be weary of any comments that may agitate him.

  • Cindy

Please…………this witch is about as entertaining as a vaginal itch. Spare us please.

  • Suzi

I hope this is true. Rosie is great and she’s an amazing woman.
    Please let this be true!!
