Exclusive: Courteney Cox Checks Into 'Scrubs'

Categories: Scrubs

Ccox J.D., Elliot and Co. have a new friend!
Sources confirm to me exclusively that Courteney Cox is joining the
cast of Scrubs for a three-episode arc as Sacred Heart’s new Chief of
Medicine.

Remember back in May, when exec producer Bill Lawrence
revealed to me that he was looking to stunt cast the role of Dr.
Kelso’s successor? Yeah, I know — I’d say he kept his word, too.

Cox’s boss lady character will “ruffle feathers,” teases a Scrubs insider.

For
my money, the gig is a very smart move on Cox’s part. Coming off of the
unfortunate Dirt, she needed a role that showcased her at her best — in
other words, making people laugh. And what better show to be her first
comedy since Friends ended four years ago than, um, only my favorite
comedy on TV? I love it. But the real question is, do you love it? I
think I know, but go ahead and comment anyway!

To be honest Scubs hasn’t been good since the 2nd season.

  • brynna

Me thinks this will be fun…

  • Jessica

I haven’t watched new Scrubs episodes in a while (only reruns), but I will definitely tune in for this!

  • Mishigoth

To be honest I’m not feeling much Scrubs love either, but I think that Cox’s talent will make any episode she’s in watchable. It’s a good move for both her and the show.

  • WolfKing

You missed a chance for a killer “Dr. Cox” pun here… I have high hopes that this season will be back on track, based on comments by producers, and her catsing is a good start.

  • Delon

    Love it !!!

  • LA

Not loving it. This is the wrong Cox for Scrubs.

  • Mike

Scrubs hasn’t been funny in years and the fact that you call it your favorite comedy when 30 Rock and The Office are on the air makes me wonder what Bill Lawrence has on you.

  • graeme

    Oh wow. Very nice.
I really want to see Cox on a drama cause I think she’s just a stellar dramatic actress (Dirt was crap, but she was great on it), but this is a nice stepping stone for her on a major network.

  • ash

cool ….any thing on the cast in the bahama’s

  • TMB

    i love it!

  • Jenny

I love it! I can’t wait for the new season and I’m personally hoping she’ll stick around longer than 3 eps.

  • KHook

This is awesome news! I don’t care what anyone says, Scrubs is still a good show. This will make it even better.

  • dbldn11

Scrubs is and has been one of, if not, the best shows on TV since it premiered. This will be a tremendous addition. Office and 30 Rock are terrific shows, but Scrubs reigns supreme!!

  • T-Dot

Can I just comment how much I love Ausiello on ew.com?

  • Kevin

Never liked Scrubs, but I may check it out if she’s gonna be on it.

  • Lia

Anyone who says scrubs hasn’t been good since season 2 clearly hasn’t been watching. Scrubs is consistantly the best half hour on TV. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry and it makes me so happy to see CC on it!

  • Taylor

Cool! I LOVE Scrubs, it’s hilarious. And I like Courteney, this should be great!

  • common sensse

Season 1 of Dirt was amazing. FX screwed it up in S2, and the strike fucked it up for good. What a shame.

  • aaron

she was never nominated for an emmy was she? beyond underrated – this is fantastic news, i love her. that’d be awesome if this leads to something more permanent, or perhaps her own ABC show.

  • Anonymous

wow! i love courteney cox! Can’t wait for the episodes to air!

  • Greg

I think this is great. To the people like Mike and Symposium who say Scrubs is not a good show: Thats fine, you have the right to your opinion. However, you shouldn’t insult Ausiello and the other people that still like it.

  • Rahul

Scrubs was great, but it got to be pretty bad. I guess they’ll try anything now.

  • matt

It’s really quite sad that TVGUIDE.com only puts out scoop by you Michael! They reference you all the time, they need to let go! Not unlike one let’s go of an amazing snapple when it moves on.

  • krstn

WOO! This is first news that I have heard about THE BEST SHOW coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont care who is on it! I just want me some Elliot and JD!!!!!! When does it air!!!!???

  • bruno

that’s awesome, but does michael ausiello’s name have to be attached to every piece of scoop EW gets?? kind of irritating already, and i’ve been trying to be nice.

  • jbjz

I agree with common sense. Season 1 of Dirty was pretty good and sexy fun. It certainly kept my attention every week. Unfortunately, they got rid of some of the best things, like Don’s crazy narration, 2nd season.

  • DLMEsquire

Scrubs has consistently been the best show on tv for years. It trailed off a bit last year, but I chalk that up to the strike and the fact that they were mailing in the NBC shows and saving the best stuff for a network that will actually appreciate them, ABC!
That said, I Love Dr. Kelso (my favorite character). Ken Jenkins is Absolutely brilliant and so funny and he will be sorely missed, if he’s not on the show. I still hold out hope for a Kelso return!

  • mike

For me Scrubs peaked in season three. The first few episodes of the new season seemed to be getting better, but then before the strike I guess they rushed episodes out and they got poor. After the strike has probably been the worse I’ve ever seen. I ended up not watching the last two episodes it was so poor.

  • Elizabeth

I didn’t really have a problem with “DIrt”, in fact sometimes I thought it was pretty clever. It was a bit out there, but what series on FX isn’t?
